Why hasn't Symphogear been licensed? Is it because licensing the music would make it hell for anyone to license the series?

Probably? Isnt that the reason why Macross is a nightmare? I assume its the same with stuff like Idolm@ster and Love Live. Extremely popular but song/seiyuu licenses are not even worth attempting to deal with

It's like if Evangelion starred Shinn Asuka.

Oh, you're actually watching this. Nice.

Except that the first three seasons of Symphogear are currently licensed and available on Crunchyroll, so why the fourth season has not yet been licensed is anyone's guess.

No, the reason that Macross has licensing issues is due to Harmony Gold, who picked up international rights to the original Macross TV series and turned it along with two other 1980s mecha anime into Robotech for US television. Harmony Gold has jealously guarded their rights to Macross ever since, and gets litigious whenever they perceive their US rights to the Macross franchise as being threatened. Thus no US company wants to deal with licensing Macross, because they'll be sued by Harmony Gold if they attempt to do so.

Kekkai Sensen 3

Between all those unconventional angles, the literal multi dimensional chess and the music choices (vocals followed by classical music), that was quite something.

My favorite episode was when they introduce the blindfolded girl.

I also love Kekkai Sensen in general.

I just watched all of Akiba's Trip over the last few days. It's not a very good anime at all.

I just want to know why Carls Jr advertisements is suddenly a thing lately in anime? Have watched 2 different shows in the last month or so with official Carls Jr ads. Is it even a thing in Japan? I guess it must be.

There's one in Akiba at least ;p

Welcome to the Ballroom 02

Hyoudou finally makes his appearance and he looks amazing. Next episode should be great if it directly follows the manga.

That's stupid.

We know you've been loving the same-day SimulDub™, which has been our hero project for the season. At first, only six episodes of dubs were expected to air the same day as the subs, but our teams kept up the pace for a whopping 14 episodes!

While we plan to do more in the future, episode 27 was our last same-day dub for Season Two of My Hero Academia, and we will now return to our usual schedule of airing two weeks after Japan. Learn more on our blog and stay tuned for the episode 28 SimulDub™ airing July 29th, only on FunimationNow!

I'd probably be more into this fight scene had the mecha not looked like a horrendous ugly mess.

That aside, what the hell did I just watch?

So many characters are being flung at me left and right, and are in constant creepy foreshadowing mode.

The Hirai character designs definetly don't help in this case since almost everybody has the same grayscale, brown, or black hair colour. It gets really confusing.

Watched 91 Days and FLCL over the weekend.

I really enjoyed both. I really love Trigger/Gainax when they were with them and somehow FLCL had evaded me. I couldn't work out what on earth was going on, but I think that's part of the fun. Also the soundtrack as incredible.

91 Days was a really nice little Mafia story. It moved really quickly and there were plot twists every single episode. Can't really complain about it!

I know I'm late af to the party, but I just finished the School Festival Arc of Hero Academia and boy did this shit get good.

It sucks that we didn't get more screentime for some of the battles, like Iida's. The race was pretty fun, the cavalry battle was great and the tournament part was amazing for some character development (like all tournament arcs usually are).

It sucks we didn't get more of best girl here, though...

latest

would've loved to see her do some actual fighting.

if this arc had come now instead of when it did she might have.
but at that time I don't think the creator knew how much of a fan favorite she would be.

I dont know why he rushed through the festival like that, he should have looked to what Kishimoto did in Naruto and actually gave lengthy fights to most or even all of the class.

forever bitter of kaminari's fight

I assume you have noticed what people have said about this series, but just in case I'll mention that the first half of the original Fafner series, before Ubukata takes over scriptwriting duties, is universally considered poor and only afterwards does its storytelling begin to improve, while the visuals themselves stay poor until later entries in the franchise. So the beginning of Fafner is something you're going to have to simply endure to get to the later strong parts of the franchise.

Well that's always a strong selling point!

While we're on the subject, here's some mecha anime that DON'T take entire seasons to get good.

Getter Robo Amrageddon
Shin Mazinger Z
Giant Robo
Gundam Build Fighters
Eureka Seven
Evangelion
G Gundam

Well Fafner recommendations are just elaborate dupes to fool you into the suffering that is OG Fafner so at least the punishment fate has meted you out is so very severe.

I think "It gets good much later." is a terrible reasoning to give someone to watch something when we see the large amount of people here dropping shows 1.5 episodes into the series.

I stand by my word.

I disagree.

Say what you will about the show's plot getting more intense, the show is still fun in its early episodes.

I'LL GET TO IT

It's definitely largely off-putting to me if something isn't at least kinda enjoyable early on. I think that's a big test for entertainment is making sure it hits the ground running. If it gets better later that's good, but that painful entry point is always going to be a hindrance and I don't fault anyone for jumping ship on anything that lacks a strong start.

When I drop shows, it is because I don't believe they will get better later, mostly because a show is still ongoing and so no one knows how future episodes will turn out. Fafner is a known quantity at this point, and a quantity I really like after the rough beginning of the original series (which is sadly not skippable due to how heavy the entire franchise relies on narrative continuity). If you don't want to watch Fafner due to it having a rough beginning, that's fine. I just think that later entries of Fafner are strong enough to be worth getting through that rough beginning and I'm going to say so. Fafner is an unusual case that doesn't follow a typical series trajectory.

I was sold on Fafner from the start. It was such a provocative and intriguing island nation post/near apocalyptic setting with unique mecha and festum design that I found it very compelling. High schoolers piloting mechas to save and defend their nation was another excellent selling point too. At the time, there were no other animes like it.

Pretty much. I can't really fault anyone for dropping a show that is supposed to "get good later", especially since there are alternatives that are good from the offset. On the other hand though, it won't really stop me from encouraging people to push through a lackluster start because I do think that some shows are worth the initial slog.

Symphogear AXZ Episode 3:

I think if I were to use a word to describe this season thus far, it would be typical, as in everything that has been playing out has been right according to the template. Indeed, right no cue we have our Alca-Noise upgrade for this season though I will credit them for moving in a different direction other then the obvious new power up to deal with the threat. ALso, shocked that the school setting still exists here in season 4.

This was good? I am somehow surprised by that but it turned out to be what I hoped for and more. Jabome seriously reminded me of Junko Enoshima and got me thinking about how different Danganronpa prequel anime would've been if it were handled with the same directorial finesse. The emphasis on facial expressions, tone, build up and good use of sound.

We can literally hear her clenching her teeth and this scene goes on for more than a second with nothing else in the background audio!

One of the reasons I picked this was to see how it touches on betting game's design and plays around with it. Gambling is a different beast though, a lot of the challenge lies outside the core game since the core game is largely a matter of luck. That's still something that interests me in the sense that outside of the game could mean anything, the options may be limited for the player in the heat of the game but there's still a dynamic element to it and that's exactly what it was in this episode. Suzui who is introduced as an innocent lead turns out to be the one that drives the game in Saotome's favor. A seemingly harmless twist to the game's setup is used to enforce this.

I just wanted to break this apart.

.

Yeah, I know, but I want to see a Blu-ray release from Funi. Aren't streaming rights and DVD/Blu-ray totally different?

Very few shows legitimately get better as they go along. The trend usually is a strong start that spirals into a mess.

Yep.

See: Kado and Flip Flappers

For me it depends on how much I like the characters and care about them and their lives. If they're likeable enough, I'll care when something bad or crazy happens in the show.

Smile Precure basically has about as standard and simple a kind of story you could have for a kids show, but I liked it because I enjoyed Miyuki and co, and I enjoyed the action sequences much more because of that. There wasn't much to their characters, but they were still fun to watch.

I didn't like Hibiki or Tsubasa in Symphogear, and thus I didn't like the action in that show.
