Trump now wants Senators to repeal and replace Obamacare:

July 19, 2017

Hoping to avoid a humiliating political defeat, President Trump on Wednesday demanded that Republican senators resume their efforts to approve a plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, insisting that lawmakers are “very close.”

A day after the GOP strategy to roll back the ACA appeared dead, Trump invited Republican senators to lunch at the White House and challenged them to work out an agreement even if it means remaining in Washington through their summer recess next month. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) had previously announced that the recess would be delayed by two weeks.

“People should not leave town unless we have a health insurance plan, unless we give our people great health care,” Trump said at the beginning of the lunch. “We’re close, very close … We have to hammer this out and get it done

The president’s effort to resurrect negotiations came a day after he declared that it was time to give up on the contentious process to overturn President Barack Obama’s signature legislative achievement and “let Obamacare fail.”

The president appeared to issue a veiled threat that he would campaign against Republicans who stood in his way.

“He wants to remain a senator, doesn’t he?” Trump said with a laugh of Heller, who also chuckled. “And I think the people of your state, which I know very well, I think they’re going to appreciate what you hopefully will do.’’

Trump added: “Any senator voting against starting debate is telling the American people you’re fine with Obamacare.” But the current health-care law, approved in 2010, has “failed,” Trump declared. “It’s gone.”

“I’m ready to act,” Trump said. “I have my pen in hand. I’m sitting in that office. I have pen in hand. You’ve never had that before. For seven years, you’ve had the easy route — we repeal, we replace, but he (Obama) never signs it. I’m signing it. So it’s a little different.”

He has no idea what's in the bill.

He's a terrible salesman for the bill.

He's driving people away from the bill, not to it.

They're nowhere close to having the votes to pass it.

White House: He was joking.
Reality: This is how Trump issues threats.

Unfortunately I believe the republicans who voted or will vote the bill down will cave. Many people will suffer under the new healthcare bills these morons pass. I really despise republicans but in all honesty their constituents deserve this for Electing these dirtbags into office.

the only thing he knows about it is that it doesn't have Obama's name on it (he probably doesn't even know what the ACA or the fact that ACA=Obamacare)

My only joy in this whole Trumpcare fiasco is the hope that Mango Mussolini drops hot fyre on 'Lil Marco's dome, but alas, Robo-Rubio has been just enough of a boot licking toad to avoid the Orange One's ire

I mean, he's right on the last part. Dude's waiting. He'll literally sign whatever BS you put on his desk. There are no obstacles whatsoever from the executive branch.

The fact they still can't put something together is so pitiful it's hard to believe.

Am I the only one that seems to think that Trump is getting more and more desperate to repeal AcA? I mean, it seems like he is talking about this more and more for every week that goes by. It must be really frustrating for him to see Obamas stuff not getting destroyed

Trump may be burning all political capital he has. Some of these Senator's (Collins, the W.V. senator, a few others) aren't going to suddenly change there mind. Trump's numbers are in the dump, this bill has like zero public support. If they end up leaving after he's pretty much telling them they should stay in session for as long as it takes, is a big middle finger to him and may just be the floodgate moment where people start to openly ignore him.

lol he's such a fuckin loser.

Maybe congress will get sick of his shit eventually and just impeach him already.

Fully expecting him to stop paying ACA subsidies.

That would be "making" it fail, not "letting" it fail.

If he MAKES it fail, then he will personally be responsible for everyone who loses their healthcare in the interim, regardless of what anyone in the congress does.

If only the republicans were normal people and would just sit down with the democrats to fix the ACA's flaws. Instead they just want to tax breaks and to erase Obama's legacy.

They don't want to do it because they know it's political suicide for 2018.

this is the most amazing thing ever. It's like Trump at this point is only capable of repeating his campaign trail stumps. "We're going to give the people great healthcare, and it's going to be the best."

Clearly he doesn't even give a shit WHAT it is, as long as he can say a bill was passed under him. He doesn't even care if it's partisan or bi-partisan. One way he'll claim the GOP did it despite the obstruction of the Dems, the other way he'll say he brought the two parties together.

Biggest con man in the country's history. Bigly.

If only the republicans were normal people and would just sit down with the democrats to fix the ACA's flaws. Instead they just want to tax breaks and to erase Obama's legacy.

Pathetic.. A bill that can pass a full senate vote should be brain dead simple. Go near down the middle and the far right nut jobs you lose would be trivial to the center dems you gain.

Yup.. this bill is about special interests and ego. Fuck 'em.

Is he really that dumb?

Republicans would never have submitted those repeal bills if there was no veto threat.

edit: Yes, he’s that dumb. Of course he’s that dumb.

It's been the main issue televised for weeks now and one of his main campaign promises. It looks badly on him to not do it.

People keep bringing up political capitol. What fucking political capitol??

He shits all over everyone and we're supposed to believe that most Republicans won't swallow his load regardless of the situation? They're defending him for fucking treason at this point. I figured being a traitor would burn a lot of political capitol don't you?

Insanity is trying over and over again expecting a different result.

That man's name?

You guessed it: Frank Stallone.

Mmmmyeah he does

Lying works

Even if it's unpopular, there are enough base, bots and cliquiness to keep R voters in line

What are they gonna do, admit a liberal is right

Seriously. The bills were nothing more than a gesture, one they can trot to their base for appearances so that the misinformed sheep can keep being fed the same spin. See! Look what we tried to do for you!

Trump was one of those sheep.

I'm fine if they want to keep tilting at windmills, it leaves less time for confirming nominations and working on tax reform.

Least week: "just repeal Obamacare!"
Yesterday: "let Obamacare explode"
Today: "repeal and replace!"
Tomorrow: "do the opposite of what I said yesterday!"

The problem is when Fox News try to spin it as not-a-loss for him, he actually believes it.

A talking head comes on and says, "The vote might not even need to happen. Obamacare might just languish in neglect and die off quietly, maybe that's the real agenda," and Trump says, "Yeah, exactly! That's what I'll do!"

Fucking Fox & Friends runs this country.

It must be killing him that he can't take away Obama's greatest legislative achievement.

As a person living in Las Vegas, Dean Heller will be as good as gone if he is taking heat from both parties. At this point, any person running on the democratic side will have a good chance to win. (Jacky Rosen). I personally would like if Brian Sandoval challanged Heller's seat for the republican nomination. I never vote outside the party lines, but have voted 2 times for governor because of a great job he has done over the years here in NV.

The fact that they know there's someone so stupid in the Oval Office that he actually will sign it is PRECISELY why the Republicans are suddenly having such a problem passing a repeal bill. When they knew it was just going to get vetoed, there was no problem voting to repeal Obamacare, because there were no negative consequences whatsoever for doing so, only the benefits of being able to go back to their constituents and say "well I tried to repeal it but big bad Obama wouldn't let me."
