There seems to be an absolute crapload of FUD about this.

Surely all of the options I had in Splatoon1 will be available to me in Splatoon2 without having to get this app and faff about right?
(Albeit having to pay for a subscription at some point down the track).
Being able to play solo queue turf wars and solo queue competitive?

I understand people expect it as an option, but I don't really care for voice. I didn't need it to enjoy Splatoon1, and like heap of recent threads, I never expose myself to the shitshow that is voice on Overwatch (QP only player).
What if I didn't even have a mobile phone?

I don't have any huge issues with the implementation myself. The app certainly needs to allow chat in the background and I imagine after all the negative feedback they'll eventually fix it. Other than that I'm alright with it. My biggest gripe will be that in handheld mode I won't be able to get both game audio and chat audio over my headphones. But, I imagine for most multiplayer games I'll spend 90% of my time playing on the TV and I can use my bluetooth earbuds for chat and still be able to hear the TV just fine. My phone has great battery life as well, so I am not even too concerned about that. It's not ideal but I'm still kind of eager to try it out.

I do think the issues have kind of been swept under the rug for a little while now. Barebones OS, no VC, less than stellar lineup in terms of volume, no headphone jack on controllers for wireless audio, etc., and now this whole mess which has been lurking in the background for some time now.

I still really like the device, but Nintendo still has a lot of issues to deal with, some of which may require a hardware refresh unfortunately.

If you play a lot of games on multiple platforms the Switch doesn't have much going for it once you finish Zelda. Splatoon 2 will help.

I don't think this will require a hardware refresh to fix the lack of voice chat built into Switch. It would take a huge UI and firmware upgrade, but it's definitely doable.

This all reeks of rushed hardware. Nintendo was sitting on Zelda, games were getting complete, nvidia had tons of chips sitting around and Nintendo had to just push this thing out of the gate because Wii U was deader than dead.

Hence the lack of an online infrastructure, Netflix, a comprehensive eshop, and its barebones UI.

Nintendo literally pushed out a system capable of playing games and downloadong games because investors would've had their heads if they went another year without making some profits.

UI clearly needed another year in the oven.
