Nintendo files trademark application for Nintendo 64 controller and more

Yeah, I mean they could just throw the whole VC library and call it done but the prospect of an N64 classic seems odd when a lot of it's best games have ports or remakes, by Nintendo or Rare. They should so do Wonder Project or Custom Robo or maybe the F Zero Expansion Kit as a selling point.

I'm not sure about F-Zero Expansion because I don't think there is an english version.
However OoT Master Quest, even if already released on GC and 3DS, could be in.

Hope none of you were expecting a virtual console on Switch anytime soon.

By soon I mean the next year or two.

Not having Rare's games will cut whatever enjoyment id get out of this by half.

Unless they REALLY go all in and put expensive ass games on it like Clayfighter Sculptors Cut or Bomberman 64 Second Attack.

Like the 3rd party support would have to be unreal to even justify buying an N64 mini. N64DD games as well.

I'd buy one even if it was just first party Nintendo stuff. There's probably enough good things there for 15-20 games.

If they could get Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and/or Banjo Kazooie that'd be so damn rad tho

If they could get the Goemon games I'd be even more hyped

If they somehow could get the N64DD version of F-Zero X I'd be screaming, but I'm probably asking for too much here :V

Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon is such an underrated game that still holds up compared to so many other N64 games. Fuckin' hidden treasure right there.

This was obvious.

Don’t know why some doubted.

The great thing about this is new official N64 controllers.

Donkey Kong 64 on Wii U VC has JetPac.

True, but Jetpac is one very small part of DK64. Not quite the same as having your competitor's mascots in your game as fully featured playable characters.

See, technically, most of the rest of DKR's cast (ie Tiptup, Bumper, Pipsy, etc) are owned by Rare/Microsoft, too. It's just that they're so minor in the grand scheme of things that Nintendo didn't give a shit. If Tiptup had his own game series like Banjo and Conker do, he would of been given the boot as well.

1080 Avalanche
F-Zero X
Kirby 64
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Mario Golf
Mario Kart 64
Mario Party 2
Mario Tennis
Paper Mario
Pilotwings
Pokemon Snap
Super Mario 64
Super Smash Bros.
Wave Race 64

Edit: Forgot Star Fox 64 and Donkey Kong 64. That's 17 already. Yoshi's Story. Make that 18.

That's the 15 (17) I can think of with no third parties and no Rare. This will be interesting! Hopefully it'll be 20 (maybe a little more pricey than the SNES) and we get those too.

I'm not (really) hating on the N64 library here, but what would even be on this?
Mario 64
Both Zeldas
DK64
Wave Race 64
Smash Bros
Mario Kart 64
Star Fox 64
Up to 3 Mario Party games
Kirby 64
Yoshi
Pokémon (either Snap, or Stadium 2 if you could connect it to the 3DS VC)
F-Zero X

What good 3rd party stuff would they be able to get? The Rare games would be out of reach, right?

The various wrestling games could be included. If Nintendo can make a deal with Microsoft a lot of the older Rare games (they released Rare Replay a few years ago and this could net them extra money) like Jet Force Gemini, Banjo Kazooie, Blast Corps etc. Then there are things like Starcraft 64, Turok , Doom, Mega Man 64 (Legends), Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon, Quest 64, Bomberman 64, Star Wars Rogue Squadron, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, Ogre Battle, etc. There are many others as well.

There are a LOT of great games that could be on a Nintendo 64 Mini and you don't have to focus just on Nintendo games.

Wonder if they'd bother bringing some DD games, maybe as a bonus.
Animal Crossing 64 could be their Star Fox 2 equivalent here...maybe

For 1st party, you forgot 1080°, Sin & Punishment, the original Paper Mario, Pilotwings, Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, Excitebike...

Excluding Rare, there's
- Mischief Makers
- Rogue Squadron
- Both Goemons
- Ogre 64
- Snowboard Kids
- Harvest Moon
- Space Station Silicon Valley
- Turok
- Wonder Project J2 (won't happen, but I got it used recently, and it's really nice)
- Beetle Adventure Racing...

There's a couple of those available on VC, so you never know...

This will probably cost $100 and without Goldeneye I probably will not buy it. I actually could see Nintendo getting the other Rare games from MS way before the Bond license.

N64 mini with Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, the Mario Sports games, the Mario Parties, Star Fox, and Smash would be recreating the perfect party console.

Animal Crossing 64 was basically re-released on GC, and it's worse than more recent games...

The Starfox 2 equivalent in the west should be F-Zero X: Expansion kit (or something 64DD related)

I'm just not that excited for this. I get the NES and SNES, but this is too soon. Do a Gameboy classic or even better idea bring virtual console to the Switch.

Yeah, these look more like icons for a Virtual Console store or service more than anything else.

Though the lack of GCN is disheartening...though not entirely unexpected, since people have discussed the fact that the Switch doesn't have analog triggers and the GCN did (well, shoulder buttons really) and potential issues for porting titles over.

While I agree (I still think Tennis 64 is the best Mario Tennis on consoles), it'll be a nightmare not only to get the console, but the pads!

I can see Smash community going nuts about a mini-console with Smash, especially if they can hack it to include some unofficial patches...

NES had 30, SNES has 20... N64 would probably have 10

I want San Francisco Rush 2 please

Honestly just excited for an N64 controller with a Wii controller port. Playing N64 virtual console games will be much more pleasant. C buttons do not feel right mapped to an analog stick.

Edit: oh man! They might include a DD game or two. Come on custom f zero levels!

If you can't get Goldeneye and the other Rare games on there Nintendo, there isn't much point in an N64 mini.

However much I would love one with a good N64 emulator.

It'll get cracked in no time and you'll be able to put it on yourself

Meh, I want Virtual Console on my Switch and I want it now. I'm not buying another box to keep under my TV.
