PCVR Game Discussion |Thread| Knocking down the (virtual) walls

I dunno, I'm likely alone in this.. but..

I wish SEGA would bring back/reboot Sewer Shark as a VR game. They could take the concept further and expand on it. I dunno, I think it would be cool lol

Anyone here have some impressions on Subnautica?
Bought it last steam sale but haven't even tried it in non-vr mode yet. I got a phobia of seas/lakes and the creatures that inhabit them, but the game does look really fun.

I"ve put about 70 hours into Subnautica since 2014 in VR. It's still early access, but coming out of it in around a month or two. It's basically in the polish/optimization section now. I think it is one of the best examples of immersion in VR. It's absolutely incredible. It's basically Minecraft under water and with better visuals.

That being said, I've heard people say it's a little rough for them in VR. I don't have any issues with motion sickness and dropped frames don't cause me to get sick at all. It has some issues with loading and stuff, but if you have a decent PC, you rarely notice that anyways, most of the people who yell at me are using 970's and things like that.

Long story short. It's incredible, take it with a grain of salt, but if you want to see Early Access and VR done right, Subnautica is easily one of the most impressive VR games out. If you get motion sick easily at all, you might want to wait till it's optimized a bit, but it's no where near as bad as people make it out to be.

Batman VR worth $15? I know that's a first wave thing, but, not much VR stuff is on sale at the moment.

I was pissed that this was a PSVR exclusive for so long, so when it finally came to steam, I was excited but heard that it was only a couple hours long.

I got it during the Summer Sale and man... It's good. It's one of the most impressive visual quality VR games out there as it uses the assets from the Arkham games. That being said, it's crazy short. I found that it was MUCH shorter than that "couple hours" of gameplay. It takes around 45 mins to play through it, and that is REALLY taking your time to look at everything. It's got Riddler puzzles and stuff that can add to the 100% completion of it, which is fun, but not a couple of hours.

I think it's worth it for $15 just because you get the quality of Arkham games, in VR and the writing of it as well. Batman Arkham Asylum, City, and Knight were some of my favorite games of the last decade, so I thought it was worth $15. If you are on the fence, get it, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. If you regret it, there is always the refund option.

Tried just a couple of minutes myself, but it was pretty spooky.
The scale of submerged algae and rocks is scary.

It's not super optimized for VR though, i wish you could deactivate your character model, since the game doesn't seem to support motion controls.

Played a few levels of Serious Sam The First Encounter.

I really like it, first I tested the 3 different locomotion mechanics, which come down to basically 2 different forms of teleportation and regular movement.
Maybe it's tweakable but I feel like the teleportation methods are too slow, they work fine but the rate you are moving along is rather slow when you hold the touchpad down and rapidly clicking the touchpad makes you faster but I feel like wearing out the touchpad of the controller that way.
So I stuck to regular movement and it works great for me (as I'm nearly immune to motionsickness in general).
With the speed you move around in this game it feels comparable to Turok: Dinosaur Hunter (PC version with mouse & k-board), very fast, constant action. This is something I started to appreciate in recent times, I did not in the past.

Playing on normal doesn't give me much problems, only died a few times, I'll have to see if later levels get more difficult and I have to turn it down.
-
Strange remark: The music of the jungle level with the waterfalls (moon mountains) has a nice rythmic tribal beat to it, when the level started I was beginning to slightly dance and then dance and shoot through the level, both at the same time which was quite enjoyable because it was actually possible to do on normal difficulty. Must have looked weird for the huge scorpion monsters and stampeding skelletons in the game, a dancing guy shooting rockets and bullets left and right lol

I'll bring this up every time I see someone talking about the Serious Sam VR games, the games allows for 16 player co-op so I reeeeally wanna try to get everyone from VR-GAF that owns the games into the same match at some point :p

"Classic Co-Op - Plunge into chaos with up to 16 players in 15-level cooperative campaign mode, which is also fully customized like choosing difficulty, increasing enemies strength per player, turning on friendly fire or infinite ammo, setting respawn credits and much, much more!"

Maybe a title edit to "PC VR" to help distinguish from PSVR?

The PSVR thread doesn't even use "PSVR" in the title though, so it's not something somebody could mix up if they were used to posting there. In the case of people that weren't used to posting there, its still plainly obvious that this isn't a PSVR thread. Anybody that so much as glances at the main post and sees the Steam/Oculus logos, or even just reads a few of the comments would come to the conclusion that this isn't about PSVR. I don't think a space in the title is going to do much for somebody that jumps straight to posting without so much as reading anything in the thread.

Honestly, one of my top VR experiences. Sure about 2 hours to complete it all, and then maybe another hour or so of Riddler trophies if you like that sort of things. But damned if it's not polished.
I'd love more games like this honestly, I really liked the gameplay too, mostly detective work, but it's a very nice departure from the shooting galleries and bow and arrow games.

I'm sure that sounds like a lot of fun for most people and I wish you good luck with that. But it's not something I'd be interested in. When I'm done with this series I think I need a small break from shooting action alltogether, it's borderline overwhelming what is going on in this game sometimes.

I would definately take a look at lone echo if you want more games like that. Its higher in price than batman but seems to be a lot longer, polished and has a lot of interaction similar to batman focusing on exploration and puzzle solving to progress the story.

Tried The Bellows, because it was free, and i wanted to try some VR horror.
Eh.
It's not really scary (all the tricks you see coming a mile away, and i don't know why people keep thinking flying pots and zero-G books are scary).

Graphics are phone quality, and there's a bunch of QOL problems, like the hands being off from your real hands, or the tracking going away when you get too close to a wall.

I'm a horror fan and i was looking forward to horror in VR, so i hope actually good titles are there.

Thanks. Will give it a go. Short doesn't bother me much as I expect this is the kind of thing to show off to people, too.

It's $15 on GameBillet, fwiw, if anyone else is interested.

Guess what guys. The Steam version of Rise of the Tomb Raider, has been updated with HTC Vive support. I am guessing this means the VR support for the Blood Ties DLC that was exclusive for the PSVR is now compatible with HTC Vive on PC.

Welp, I smacked a mirror with my touch controller and broke it playing Echo Arena yesterday. The problem with the guardian system is when you're doing really quick movements in a game like throwing a disk, it's too little too late when the green wall pops up. I tried pushing the area in and it's working a little better, but too little too late I guess.

I'm thinking about buying Minecraft just so I can play it with Vivecraft.

I thought I had played enough of this game already in the early 360 Minecraft days (never had it on PC) and I would never feel the urge to play it again after spending a hefty ammount of hours in that world. There are so many cool user created locations to see that I have never seen on 360, maybe worth it in VR.

I'm getting ready to release the Horizon Vanguard Location Test demo (next month, a bit later than I hoped lol), and I'm wondering if anybody would be willing to give it a shot before public release via Steam and give me some feedback on it. Oculus or Vive. A couple of you have already reached out (thanks!), but if you haven't and you're interested please post or PM and I'll get you some keys assuming I haven't run out (don't have the biggest pool at the moment).

Yeah. After Gorn came out I set up a smaller "safety" preset for my chaperone to avoid that exact problem lol.

Oh my god....

Robo Recall sold me on VR....

But Echo Arena takes it to an entirely new level. Chilling in the lobby with other live users, floating around and tossing balls... fucking WOW. Complete immersion and presence.

I'd wait for cheaper honestly. It took me 45 minutes. It has 2 puzzles and some walking. Don't know what all the hype was about, it's barely a game.

The last 5 minutes is pretty cool, but the credits come very abruptly and it's pretty underwhelming.

I can only recommend The Assembly.

As a non-VR game it might be boring, but I really really liked playing it in VR. The whole facility, running around the offices, learning more about it. It felt really immersive. The only thing a bit "last gen" is if you are used to the "hand controls" of Oculus Touch, its a bit sad to mostly have pointer controls.

Re setup Revive for Lone Echo/Arena and RoboRevive for RoboRecall. Robo Recall is a blast but Lone Echo is something else. Standing and floating around is a little weird but sitting in a swiveling desk chair felt great. Just need to be mindful off the cable (hooked to the ceiling). Hoping to give Arena a shot sometime this week. Really cannot wait for the Valve Knuckles.

Love this game, this is just pure immersion, story telling with some puzzle stuff at its finest. I really enjoyed it and I absolutely want more like it.

With OpenVR Advanced Settings, you can tweak the boundary sensitivity on the fly, right from the SteamVR menu, without changing the play area size.

Can anyone recommend a horror game that is more of an experience and less of a game?

My wife doesn't like to play games that have fail states. Like getting killed, captured, game over, timers, etc.

She likes interacting with things in VR, and I think she'd like horror, but not if you're getting chased or have to run away. But if it's something like solving puzzles, or making decisions in a story, and you don't lose or get any kind of game over, that would be ideal.

Doesn't have to be horror, I guess, but I'd like to start there.

Just got the Oculus yesterday and hooked it up last night. She loved Google Earth VR, fwiw.

A Chair in A Room: Greenwater and Dead Secret. Dead Secret has a few moments where you actually have to repeat a few moments if you are not careful but they are few and far between.

If it doesn't have to be Horror then The Gallery: Call of the Starseed, Conductor, maybe Dwingle B.O.T and many of the escape room like games.

Have Narcosis, Pollen and Solus Project and they all hit the same itch.

Recently got a Gear VR. Basically just dipping my toes in. I been fascinated by vr since I was a kid. This stuff is mind blowing. The first thing I tried was that Blade Runner thing and it was incredible. Notes on Blindness was another really cool experience. Cool to see there is a decent amount of content out there. I have a couple games but mostly just watching these videos and experiences. I'm very envious of people with high end vr sets. I think next I will get a PSVR. Sometime in the future when I got the money for a new rig eventually I want to get a Vive. Phones can't really handle this. My phone gets hot way to fast. Still I'm amazed that phones are doing vr.

I feel like the Oculus store needs a steam-like refund policy. Being so new to VR, I don't know what's going to make me sick or be something I like so I really appreciate that ability to test something out.

They really need to make a lego building game in VR. just give you like unlimited amounts of the different types of lego and just let you go in a freestyle mode.

they'd probably monetize the fuck out of it tho, and sell dlc of different things to build with their trademarks tho (ie millennium falcon, etc)

yea, agreed. they also let you need to install anything even you might not meet the requirements. (like being able to install windows 10 games even tho you only have windows 7)

This is basically what Minecraft is.

whats that? gearVR only thing?
<edit> nvm, I see what you're talking about.

and also....imo, if you have the PC for it, I'd skip the PSVR and just get the rift while the bundle is still on sale. just as good as vive with a third sensor, but so much more affordable.

Eh, minecraft is its own thing. theres alot more to it and the graphics are what they are.

I'm talking about a legit virtual lego game. virtual legos. I mean what I am talking about isn't like Minecraft. Ironically, Legos has a licence with Minecraft. also, Micecraft vr only works on windows 10 which is ass.

Blade Runner 2049 Replicant Pursuit. Made to promote the new movie. There are two more coming out. Might be a Gear vr thing I don't know. I agree that the oculus is a good deal right now but I don't have the pc for it.

As far as I know, they do. Edit: If you're in the UK at least.

Seems to be UK only actually if I'm to believe that page - which is even worse. Shame on me for not reading the italicized parts. I tuned it out for some reason thinking it was going to be legal mumbo-jumbo. Oh well, one more reason to use Steam for non-exclusives I guess.

I own a PSVR since day one and lately I've been using it a lot.

If you like what you're seeing on your phone, you're going to love it. It's a great headset, it works great for games where you're sitting and don't have to move around much.

Unfortunately, it has some serious tracking issues unless you can be in a dark room with no reflections and stand 2/2.5m from a camera that is positioned at your head level. Room scale is really limited (even though you can move around, be Also, the move controllers are okay but don't have analog sticks, something that pretty much forces developers to choose between free movements or motion controls.

I believe (I actually hope) Sony is working on some new tracking technology, I hope we hear more about it soon. With Oculus Rift + Touch Controllers at 399$ (will be 499$ after the sale ends), it's really hard to recommend PSVR over it.

Finished Lone Echo today. It really is a fantastic experience, and it nails the zero G traversal so incredibly well. The dialogue and interactions with Cpt. Rhodes felt exceptionally good. The pseudoscience was handled pretty well, with some exceptions here and there. By the end of the game though, I was getting tired of the scavenger hunt type objectives. Late game spoilers:
Fuck you Apollo I'm tired of finding these damn batteries power cells.

1060 is gonna serve you well until Volta for sure! As long as you don't SS, you'll be fine on a lot of stuff.

Heck, people with 970's are still kicking it.

The Oculus store needs to do a lot of things to be even remotely competitive with Steam. Starting with selling games that officially support more than one VR device.
