IT - Official Trailer 1

I also read that part 2 is expected to film early next year, so it seems like they're going forward with it on the assumption that this will be a success.

Pretty sure the popularity of Stranger Things will make IT a success, even if the movie isn't amazing.

It looks really good tho. Hopefully it doesn't rely too much on jumpscares.

alright im fully on board for this one. that looked great.

are we also gunna retread the conversation about the rape in the book? It happened, King regrets it and wishes he could've thought of something better, i doubt its in the new film as it wasn't even in the tv movie. time to move past it, its been discussed to death at this point.
Which rape? I actually can't remember. D:

Not sure how I feel about Pennywise. He obviously won't live up to Curry but I'm not sure I buy into the directorial approach they're going with his character. I also hope they don't go crazy with the jumpscares.

We finally hear him speak this trailer and I'm sort of mixed.

Pennywise looks way too evil in the sewer with Georgie. What kind of kid would even fuck with that? The original Pennywise looked more "normal clown" and it would be more believable why Georgie would put his hand down there.

Even so that is probably the only scene that would be affected by not having him be more normal clown. Most of the time, Pennywise seems to go for scaring less so than luring.

Is it their intent to make me laugh at "you'll float too" and the attempted jumpscares? Because it's working.

Agreed. I actually don't mind jumpscares in moderation (they can be fun), but the book has an excellent sense of creeping dread that I hope they can capture, especially when exploring the past history of Derry.

Could be wrong but I'm guessing that scene is cut up a bit for the trailer...seemed abrupt.

Ah, that scene. I remember the TV movie left that out too, lol.

Eh, I say leave it in. It certainly had shock value!

What the fuck man.

Not as great as the teaser but I'm still super excited to see this since I'm a huge horror fan. I just hoping this movie ends up being good (I liked the book as well except for that one disturbing part when they were kids).

Doesn't look quite as promising as the teaser. Hope it's good. I really hope part 2 will get made as I love the adult part of the story.

I said damn...and I jumped hard at that Pennywise/Beverly cut. Overall, I hope the movie doesn't rely on jump scares.

The girl taking turns having sex with each of the boys in the group.
This is the most embarrassing thing I've ever read in any novel ever. Even worse that (Dark Tower spoilers --->)
King interjecting himself into his own series as a main character.

Stephen King regrets writing that scene. It's best to forget about it.

Oh, no kidding? I wasn't aware of that.

Honestly I don't remember it being that bad, I might have to dig my book out tonight and re-read it to understand all of the reactions in here. I think I was still in high school the last time I read through IT....

I have not finished the book yet so I am not sure if people are talking about the same part.

Apparently the
sewer orgy
will not be in the movie according to a producer. Not sure if it's the same
rape scene
people are talking about.

Is there going to be any adult stuff in the movie? or is it focused on the kids only?

Kids only.

The explanation is that Pennywise terrorizes first to "salt" the meat.

Terrorizing them is more like cooking the meat, according to the book's explanation. Pennywise can only kill you if you partially or fully believe in him. If you don't even realize he exists, he can't do anything to you. If you completely, 100% believe in him with no hesitation, then you are able to fight back against him.

He uses terror and intimidation to get people to believe in him kinda-sorta, but the outrageous nature of the scares is intended to make people uncertain that what they're seeing is real, so that they can't effectively fight back against them.

Also, spoilers from the book about Pennywise's backstory:
It's actually an alien that crashed onto the planet before humanity even existed

ehhh i'd prefer it were
a demon

I read the book years ago. I really liked it.

But I am trying to think of the last 1/3 of the book and how it ends and I am drawing a complete blank. o_O

It looks like they're going with that angle since the trailer keeps telling you how everyone in the town in cursed and kids get taken advantage of. Idk how you'd be able to make the
alien origin work without it being goofy.

Hi Bobby, could you maybe stop reacting dramatically and instead explaing why you keep posting that to everything I post? Because seriously, and I'm not playing around, but I have no idea what was so bad about that part of the book to warrant that kind of reaction. I might just not remember it being as bad as it might be, but I do not have a photograhic memory and I've not read it for a very long time, and I really don't have any idea why you are being so vaguely dramatic about it.

Thanks.

You could call it that too if you wanted. It's really a matter of labeling. It certainly checks off enough of the boxes, other than
not being directly from hell.... though if you go with the Dark Tower insinuations, wherever it came from is extradimensional and horrifying enough to also count as hell

Much the same way people Gaming side appear to spend more time talking about games than playing them, we talk about movies more than actually watching.

I dunno how else to explain inane criticisms about horror movie marketing containing jump scares.
