About this project

Re:Legend is a monster raising focused RPG with features such as farming, fishing, crafting, village building, multiplayer and more on PC!


Washed ashore on Vokka Island without memories, you start a new life and find ways to recover your lost memories. However, you must first learn how to live on the island by cultivating the land, befriending villagers, expanding the village and raising your very own magical creatures known as Magnus.

Venture around the land of Ethia where Vokka island resides to reclaim your memories, but this is no easy task as the world is filled with dangerous Magnus and threatening challenges.


Re:Legend is heavily inspired by awesome games such as Rune Factory, Digimon World, Fantasy Life and Monster Rancher series. We love monster raising! <3

Taming and Raising Magnus

Mythical creatures known as Magnus roam the land of Ethia, and every single one of them is tamable. They will aid you in many ways such as during combat, farming, fishing, traveling and more. They will also grow and evolve depending on your care, so each of them has unique evolution conditions. Once the Magnus has grown enough and you have gain their trust, you can mount them and use their abilities at will. These abilities will be helpful in your adventure in many ways so make sure to take good care of them!

Multiplayer

You can enjoy the game alone, but why not share the fun with your friends and family? Carry out the activities together and share precious memories!

Gameplay wise, there are plenty of activities that you can experience with your friends. One example would be farming, where you can split the workload between the players and everyone could master a specific part of the job. Different Magnus are better at different jobs, so each of the player can choose a different Magnus suited for different parts of farming. If having Magnus do your chores seems too cruel, you can always do it the traditional way by farming manually. Having friends will speed up the progress significantly.

Most of the features in the game are built around multiplayer so you will able to enjoy your friend's company throughout the game.

We believe that games are meant to be played together so we’re focusing on multiplayer since the early stages. These are just some of the features that have been confirmed and there’s still plenty of room for improvement as we are still experimenting with different ideas. More will be added in the future.

Number of Players: 1 - 4

Farming

Vokka island’s fertile ground is perfect for crop cultivation, be it on land or underwater. You can plant plenty of crops all year long with different species of plants to be cultivated with each coming season. Each crop can be sold for gold or used to improve your progression in the game. Beside crops, you can also keep and breed the fish that you have caught around the world in your farm. You can let them swim freely in your farm!

Life Skills

Practice makes perfect! You gain life skills as you practice them frequently. They level-up passively as you carry out the activities so it is crucial to practice the skill that you want to master as much as you can. Example of life skills: Mining, Fishing, Logging, Cooking, Crafting, Farming, Weaponry and much more!



Story

Waking up with no memory of your past, you will start your adventure to discover fragments of your memories that were scattered across the land. Each fragment will reveal more about your past and allow you to understand the world a little better.


You will find more leads about your memories as you start to develop Vokka Village further throughout the game. People in the village will lend you a hand in uncovering your identity during your adventure so take your time to expand the village. Beside your memories, there's also more to discover as you explore the world!

Character customization

We feel that it's important for everyone to bring their own uniqueness to Re:Legend, especially because multiplayer is such an important part of the game. To make sure that everyone is special in their own way, you will be able to customize the character to your liking during character creation. Customizable parts will include hair style, hair color, eyes, pupil color, skin color, clothes and so on.

Armors can be used as vanity as well to mask over the current equipment that you are wearing. If you love how the armor looks but dislike the stats, just wear it as vanity and you will look exactly the way you want without affecting your stats.

Building and Expanding Your Village

Vokka Village is where your new life begins! Befriend local villagers and celebrate exciting festivals while having a good time together. Pay attention to their needs and help them out in their daily lives, and they will reward you accordingly. You can recruit more villagers into the village during your adventure, and having more villagers will expand the village. This will allow you to gain access to better resources, and who knows you might even develop a romantic interest in one of them?!

We believe that music is the soul of a game because it bring out best in it by triggering a player's emotion throughout their journey in the game world. In order to deliver the best experience for you guys, we're collaborating with none other than the legendary Video Game Orchestra(VGO)! Video Game Orchestra is a Boston-based ensemble that has recorded for huge blockbuster franchises like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts (Square Enix) to Cytus (Rayark) and Mages of Mystralia (Borealys Games). Their recorded works have been nominated multiple times for Best Soundtrack within various circles, and is internationally renown for its quality and musicality.

While Vokka Island is a peaceful and relaxing place, the outside world is definitely not! There are different regions around Vokka Island and each is a dangerous area filled with wild Magnus. It is always a wise choice to bring along your trusted Magnus before heading out.

We have planned 5 different regions so far and each of them will house unique Magnus in their respective ecosystem. There are plenty of exclusive Magnus in those regions that cannot be encountered in other regions where the region’s exclusive Magnus has different strength in terms of their abilities and growth. They will be able to help you in specific sections of your journey so take your time to understand their strengths and raise them carefully.

The direction that we are aiming for is a combination of cute and cool so we went with the chibi anime style. We hope that you will enjoy what you see!

We're spending a lot of time taking the monsters from 2D concept art to 3D assets since we want to create a unique feel for the monsters, ranging from distinct physical features to special interaction animations.

My only gripe is with the graphics. I'm OK with the art style but character models feel off.

In regard to getting console copies if you pledged for a PC copy, the FAQ says this:

You can convert the PC copy to the platform of your choice once the console stretch goals are met.

Whew, thanks for the thread. Bumping the old one (cuz I can't make this thread, cuz obvious reasons) was a little un-ideal.

We're less than 1k off the orchestral stretch goal. Might have an update down the line talking about the music and what we want to do with it for this game - there's a lot of cool ideas we're working on executing, e.g. dynamically swapping themes (e.g. going indoors and outdoors - probably sounds familiar). Musically, lots of inspiration from Rune Factory, SNES JRPGs and Atelier. We want to capture that slice-of-life, upbeat feel while getting serious when serious needs getting.

It's rather exhilarating working on this, partially because Suzuki and Nakama are best bros (we went through some Hellfire together for FFXV and then some) and incredibly talented, but furthermore this would be the first time I'm co-composing on top of doing the mix engineering for a soundtrack we're all involved in.
 
Yeah, this looks a lot like Rune Factory. Really like the art and music too. Definitely my kind of thing. Added a reminder for it. Not going to back it quite yet. I'd be in for a Switch version, so if it hits that stretch goal I'll throw my hat in.

I'm in once it is guaranteed to hit the PS4/Switch stretch goals.

As far as I know, Kickstarter doesn't actually charge you until the campaign ends. People wanting a particular stretch goal should back early and pull out if it looks like it'll miss the goal. That way the campaign hits milestones faster which tends to bring in even more money.

There's a caveat that you cannot cancel a pledge if it'll drop below the funding goal, but that doesn't affect stretch goals. (And it's highly unlikely that people will mass-cancel till it goes back to ~51k USD, heh)

Both, and simultaneous (e.g. you can play with someone on LAN with another player connecting over internet)

No split-screen though.

Do you think it'll have cross platform play like Minecraft and Rocket League? Assuming it hits console stretch goals.

Update #3: Fish on! First Stretch Goal Fish Caught!

Yesterday was a crazy day and we've managed to fund the project in such a small amount of time! Followed by the momentum, things are going pretty great today as well.

We've caught our very first "Stretch Goal Fish"! This will allow us to record Re:Legend's music live in Boston with VGO lead by Shota Nakama. Our OST will be recorded with live instruments so it will improve the overall quality of the music tremendously.

We've just received words from Shota-san and the crew that it is possible for us to make a video before the end of the campaign to showcase our approach on the music section. It will include samples of the live recording and we will be showcasing how the music is intended to switch on-the-fly when playing the game.

More details about that will be revealed in the future and we can't wait to talk about it! :)

I'll be looking forward to that video.

It's stilk quite a bit off halfway though... I've backed anyway, i want this on Nintendo Switch!
 
I don't have a PC to take advantage of that early access beta or play this if the Switch stretch goal isn't met. If this gets enough donations to get to the Switch stretch goal I'm all in for the Plush and to have my name in the credits which would end up being a small dream come true for me. Fingers crossed. I followed the game in Twitter to receive updates.

Second stretch goal reached, "New Player Shop". Not entirely sure what that means yet but we're still hitting at least one stretch goal a day, which is an encouraging sign.

Update #4 Re:Legend Combat Spotlight: Dual Swords

We're sure a lot of of you guys are curious how combat really works in the game so today we're gonna talk about one of the weapon type in Re:Legend - The Dual Swords!

The dual swords are meant for players who love to slice and dice in style and it's the fastest class in the game in terms of mobility. You're an attacker so you will be focusing on dealing tons of damage to the enemies. As you progress through the levels, you will be unlocking more combos for your attack and each consecutive hit will become more powerful. Be sure to max out on your dual swords skill to deal maximum damage.

Besides unlocking combos throughout the levels, you will be able to unlock charging skill when you hit certain level. Charging skills are really powerful and they can deal some serious damage. The only down side is that it cost a significant amount of stamina and it will leave you open to attack for several seconds as you need some time to charge up the attack before unleashing your wrath on the enemies.

Update about the Player Shop stretch goal has gone up and it adds a bit of that Recettear to the game.

Update #5: Stretch Goal Fish 2 Caught!

We've smashed the second stretch goal earlier today and we will be unlocking the "New Player Shop"! This is something that we've always wanted to have in the game and it can finally happen!

The "Player Shop" is actually a shop that is run by players and that's not too difficult to guess from the stretch goal isn't it? Once you have constructed the harbor in Vokka Village, you will be able to run your very own shop! Sell your valuable items through the shop and they will fetch a better price compared to selling them normally.

NPCs from different region will be visiting your shop and they have different personalities and purchasing power. It is your choice to bargain with them and get the most out of your items. Each successful negotiation will improve your "Merchant Skill" and this will allow you to sell your items at a higher price and improve the success rate of bargaining.

Selling items through your shop would be the best way to make sure your hard earned items are worth the effort as it can multiply your profit several times higher than the conventional way.

Update #6: Introducing Vokka Village Mayor

What's up guys! We're back with another update on day 4 of the campaign! Today we're going to be introducing the mayor of Vokka village - Moku! Mayor Moku is one of the very first NPC that we have created and he will be playing a very important role in the game.


He will help you kick-start(heh) your life in Vokka village and guide you along your journey in the game. All the events in the village will be hosted by Moku as well so just look for him when you are ready to participate in a village event. He will play a major role in the main quest but we're not going to spoil it too much at the moment.

Initially Moku was conceived as a very serious character since he is the mayor of the village but we find it a little too boring in terms of personality so we tried to give him a funnier and more interesting makeover. Here's the initial roughs of Moku:

Not very interesting isn't it? The roughs are fine but we felt that it's still lacking personality. In the roughs below we gave him a naughty personality and a hand puppet, because... why not? With that in mind, Moku's life will never be the same again and he will not be just another generic old mayor of the village. Moku's makeover roughs:

Oh, we forgot to mention that we've also added a hint of "fabulous-ness" in him so he can remain stylish while hosting the village events. The thought process of making Moku is that we try to make him as fun as possible because you guys would be interacting with him most of the time.

Here's the final concept of Moku before we proceed with modelling and animating him. We hope that you will enjoy having him around in the village! :)

Note: We're really close to catching the 3rd stretch goal fish as well! We can't wait to talk about advance house customization!

Less than 2k to reach the next goal. Those console ports are slowly but surely getting closer.

Just noticed the kickstarter passed the 140k mark, so the advanced house customization is unlocked.

If it gets closer to the Switch version I'll back it, i'm thinking it will hit that one at least but it may be close

Given how it's going I feel they'll manage to reach them all.
 
This game looks perfect for the Switch! Have the devs been in contact with Nintendo about this coming to their platform if the game meets its goals? I know some indie devs have had issues with nintendo if their game doesnt come first to the Switch or have Switch exclusive content.

This a Square-Enix Collective game, meaning that SE will likely help them get a Switch devkit if they reach the appropriate goal.

In advance house customization, you will be able to change the interior and exterior of your house so they will be fully customizable. The wall/floor of the interior is changeable and you will be able to decorate it with objects that you have found or crafted throughout the game.

There are plenty of things that you can place in the house and you have the choice to choose between efficiency or beauty. Some objects are meant to be functional and some are purely for vanity purpose so there's no restriction on them. We know some of you will prioritize decorations, while some of you will just fill the house with chest to horde all the items. ;)

Exterior wise you will be able to edit the following categories: Main House Structure, Windows, Doors, Roofs and Roof decorations. You can freely select the presets that you want by talking to the carpenter and provide her with the required materials and currency.

These are some of the sample of those interchangeable parts and they are all modular, so it is possible for them to fit all the designs. You can also visit your friend's home in multiplayer so make sure to decorate them nicely!

Just noticed the kickstarter passed the 140k mark, so the advanced house customization is unlocked.



Given how it's going I feel they'll manage to reach them all.

To be fair it seems to be chugging along very well, would have expected a big lull by now so yeah i think you might be right

Update #8: Re:Legend Combat Spotlight: Great Swords & Backers Question

Hey guys! We're back with another update on weapon type today, featuring the Great Swords!

The great swords are made for players who love to deal heavy blows and can take lots of damage. It is currently the slowest class in the game but it is also the tankiest class among the others. Similar to the dual swords, you will be unlocking more combos for your attack and each consecutive attack hit harder and deal more damage. The attacking speed might be slower than other classes but individual hits are much stronger so timing is really important.

After reaching certain level for great swords skill, you will be able to unlock charging attack. The charging attack is similar to that of a dual sword and it can deal extremely heavy damage to enemies. Charging up the attack will take some time and it will cost a significant amount of stamina so be sure to look for an opening before charging your attack or you will risk losing your health and stamina.

Despite being slower than other classes, great swords are still extremely fun and can be really powerful. That's it for now and we're really close to catching our 4th stretch goal fish, the Hidden Legendary Magnus! We're really excited about that! :D

Backers Question: We would also like to take this opportunity to ask all of you guys if you want the "Full Voice Acting" to move below console stretch goals as we realized some of you prefer it that way and by Full Voice Acting we meant every single line will be voiced including normal chat. Do let us know how you feel so we can take measures. <3

I wonder what the response will be. I'm expecting the console stretch to get moved up.
 
In for the [ - Master Tamer - ] tier, this game looks so good. I personally don't care for voice acting in games like this, but maybe it'll be good. I really hope that we can unlock the underwater biome!

Update #9: Hidden Legendary Magnus & 2000 Backers Special!

Today concludes the very first week of our campaign and it has been amazing so far! We are in awe with the amount of support and love we have gain in the short amount of time. <3 We're currently sitting at 240% funded at the moment and had just caught our 4th stretch goal fish yesterday, the Hidden Legendary Magnus! Woohoo!

Before we get into the hidden legendary Magnus, we would like to celebrate our 2000 backers milestone as well! You guys have unlocked the first Magnus Evolution Showcase and here it is:

As you can see, there's different evolution paths and they will lead to different outcome so the evolution path is not necessarily linear. Some of the Magnus will have even more complex path of evolution, so this is just a simple sample. In this case, the Trocker Crab will evolve differently depending on your care so make sure to take care of them and make your decision carefully. We will be revealing a Magnus Evolution Showcase for every 500 backers from now on. (Next goal: 2500 backers)

Now let us proceed to talk about Hidden Legendary Magnus! We're really excited and can't wait to share more about them!

We have always wanted to create some really awesome and crazy looking Magnus in the game and with the current funding we are finally able to make them! Each biome will now contain at least one hidden legendary Magnus and you would have to figure out how to get them throughout the game. They are extremely tough to acquire and each of them will require tremendous amount of effort but the final outcome will definitely be worth it.

Every legendary Magnus acquisition conditions are unique so you should try out different ways to acquire them. Explore the world and talk to NPCs and you will hear rumors about their existence.

We will leave the discovery to you guys so we will not spoil too much about them at the moment. Have fun looking for them in the game!
Note: Magnus fusion is also a possible way to acquire them. ;)

That's all for legendary Magnus at the moment and we will conclude our decision on the stretch goals.

After reading through every single comment about stretch goals and discussing among the team, we have made our decision, to keep them the way it is. For those who are disappointed or angered at this point, take a deep breath and relax yourself for a bit as we will explain our decision.

We understand that there are many of you who wanted to reach the console stretch goals sooner so more people will be able to enjoy them and some of you are more interested in hitting other stretch goals before anything, but we, as the creators, have goals that we would like to achieve for Re:Legend. The way we laid out the stretch goals are meant to achieve every single one of them bit by bit and make Re:Legend a better game with every stretch goals met. We will start working on the stretch goals immediately the moment it hits the goal so the game can be delivered within the timeline that we set and the order of current stretch goals will be able to fulfill that. The earlier we hit the stretch goals, the faster we can set things in motion so it will not be delayed.

We started Re:Legend with a vision in mind and we are here to achieve them so you will definitely not be disappointed. Please believe and have faith in us that we will deliver the best possible experience for you guys and that has been our aim since day one. :)

PS: There's still 23 days left and we have a loooooong way to go! We're pretty sure we can hit the consoles port before the end of the campaign! Let's do this! xD

From what I understand there *are* ongoing discussions on whether to flip the stretch goals around or not, but I feel it's going to be a moot point anyway considering we're only a week in.

edit: Actually, nah, update is more current. Guess the stretch goals are staying.

This is one of those instances where I had no idea I wanted this type of game until coming across the Kickstarter for it. Couldn't back it fast enough.

I wish I had the money to pledge for the Master Tamer tier. Those monsters are so cute and I really want their plushies.
