Senate healthcare repeal bill fails - Collins, Murkowski, and McCain voted no

So... will Fox, Breitbart, Infowars and other Real News outlets even acknowledge that this vote happened, or will they simply not cover it, thus leaving Trump supporters secure in the knowledge that the it actually got repealed because only Fake News announced it?

Nah, they are in this thread spinning the catostrophic demise of ACA repeal this year at the hands of McCain as some sort of accident. McCain accidentally outmanuvered McConnell in parliamentary procedure.

Source? The only thing I've heard is about considering one reconciliation bill a year, not whether that includes just voting on it or passing it.

Anyhow, they can use budget reconciliation again, but it has to be after they deal with this year's budget.

I don't see why that matters. He wants to replace Obamacare with another plan, but he refuses to remove Obamacare without anything in place.

Is repealing Obamacare inherently a bad thing if they have something in place that both sides agree to? That's a serious question. I have my own insurance so I'm not sure of the specifics.

You think a budget would be simple? After how awful the proposed trump budget was? By the time a new budget is passed, campaign season begins, lets see if the GOP want to do this again in the middle of midterm elections.

I'm not entirely understanding this. They need 60 votes unless there is a budget reduction? Has that requirement passed the point of no return?

If so, that's great. Time to remove Trump from office and at least make the bill way less horrible if it passes in 2018.

Everyone, including McCain, knew that no amount of "amendments" was going to make that pieced together shit show of a bill worth a damn.

They can only use reconciliation (to avoid 60 votes) once a year per topic on three topics. One you try and fail you need to pass another budget resolution before you can try again via reconciliation. If they don't do that, they need 60. They won't have time to work on a budget resolution, then tax reform, then the debt ceiling etc etc this year. They'll have to wait until next year, most likely, to try again. Which is kinda unclear since 2018 is an election year.

My charitable interpretation: he knew his best friend was going to fall on his sword for this, so he got to preserve his political capital with the 'gesture' of voting yes to check the box on this piece of shit with the assurance it would never actually reach Paul Ryan for him to weasel it into law.

Remember that Graham was primaried in 2014 for daring to work with Dems on immigration reform, the guy is aware of how tenuous his position can be in the insanity that is the modern Republican party.

Well, the primary justification for many people's apathy, or even content, in the other thread with McCain's brain cancer diagnosis was that he was willing to trash healthcare. I understand these sentiments, but he voted no.

I don't agree with many of his political alignments, but he is clearly not some evil man.
