What's Your Pick for the Most Iconic Power Armor in All Ass Kicking SF Fiction?

I've always loved Halo's power armor.

The Mark V has always been my favorite armor of Master Chief. Don't quite as much care for the later iterations, especially the current MC design.

Syd Mead's turn A gundam design is probably my all time favorite though

They do in fact have power armor in the Alien universe or at least through the random stuff that was written around it. From the 90's coming ALIENS: Tribes there was the The MOX-16 or the Mobile Offensive Exo Warrior aka The Shit Kicker. Basically a weapon developed by the Colonial Marines when you truly needed to fuck something up and consisted of a homicidal maniac given the option of death the quick way or to be basically built into an weaponized exoskeleton and put into a drug induced stupor. When woken up he gets pumped full of even more drugs turning it into an unstoppable Berserker decked out in all manner of weapons. It takes on an entire Alien hive and even a Queen Alien.
That is metal as fuck

I think the general public could recognize Samus before a LOT of the posts in this thread, especially stuff like Warhammer 40K.

But the threads more about cool and iconic ones, not who has heard of it more than others.

It's not iconic at all.
I bring this to my workplace in high tech and I'm sure barely anyone would know what this is. 5 year old kids are all familiar with Iron-man.
Metroid is a niche series. It's on par with Warhammer 40K.

Is it a cool suit? It's very cartoony. AFAIK, it turns into a ball and is used to navigate mazes. What's cool about it?

Technically, most of all the Gundam suits are probably cooler than this.

Armor in comics?

How about a little justice, like lightning with Mach V?

How about a little angst with Darkhawk?

Someone call Ed Sullivan because here come the Beetles.

Or turning your robotic dog into powered armor?

Accept no substitutes.

I know it was a somewhat controversial choice, but I liked that the suits in Fallout 4 were basically powered vehicles you climb inside of rather than armor you would wear like normal-sized tactical gear that just happened to be enhanced. Basically one of the only things that I unequivocally liked.

That was a pretty cool change (them being vehicles). Though when it comes to accepting no substitutes when playing Fallout games, there's just two games you need to play...

Has anyone mentioned corporal kassad's power armor in Hyperion?

Oh good choice, yeah.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

The Power Armor in Wolfenstein the New Order was pretty awesome as well and also has a fairly distinct look compared to a lot of power armor designs. That and its origins are pretty neat as its basically ancient super technology from a sect of Judaism that thought being closer to God involved the use and mastery of the sciences.

Jewish power armor being used to kill tons of Nazis is pretty awesome.

First tragedy, then farce.
I don't even like Warhammer, have never done anything remotely involved in Warhammer.

And the answer is Warhammer. Like 100%.

Imbarkus

As Sartre noted in his contemplation on Hell in No Exit, the true horror is other members.
I'm not sure the future is going to involve fighting so dramatic and... macroscopic an enemy as most sci-fi postulates... so here's my fave.

In terms of look Dead Space power armor. In other terms... I like Elementals in Mechwarrior.

Elemental Battle Armor from BattleTech.

The first battle armor introduced in the series, and even after all these years (27 or so since its introduction), it is still the most balanced suit, and thus by one definition the best.

Also beats many of other science fiction powered armors due to integral weapons and heavy armor.

Not as deadly as the original Mobile Infantry powered armor, but then no one has had the audacity of using 2kt nuclear rockets as normal weapons since Robert A. Heinlein...

If anybody remember the '80s cartoon "Centurions", their suits were a huge influence on me as a kid.

Each guy was a specialist in either land, sea, or air operations the would call in different attachments to their suits depending on the situation.

I also like the looks of the power armour in Anthem that was shown at E3, seems like there will be a good visual variety between the different armours.

Someone mentioned Edge of Tomorrow being an exo-suit but it's source material All You Need is Kill had a manga which depicted it as more of an armor. Great book, not really nominating it, but it looks badass.

Glad to see the Steakley love in here, more people need to enjoy that book. Fun ride.

When it comes to Power Armors, nothing beats Warhammer 40k. The Space Marine suits are pretty damn impressive, and other armies like the Tau got some crazy battle suits and armors as well.

I love the first few posts of this thread. These are the main reasons that I am so into mecha for the most part. Probably all began thanks to Ironman and eventually moved on to other things. However, one from my childhood that I have a huge heart for is EXO squad.

I had some of those toys, including that one

They were kinda baller

Not exactly power "armor", but Ripley's power loader in Aliens comes to mind, if that counts.

EDIT: Oh, I see a few posters have already singled it out. Nice!

Considering how many god damn shelves Warhammer 40K books take up in most major bookstores at this point and how liberal Games Workshop is being with their license at this point I think its getting more and more well known to the general public. Not huge as the MCU or anything but I was surprised at how many people have read a book or few from the Horus Heresy series.
If 40K is that big, there should'd been alot more outcry when Blizzard made Starcraft. This considering Blizzard got flak for "ripping off" Kungfu Panda.
