Probably because the developers have already outright stated that this is the case. Also because this game wouldn't even exist in the first place without Awakening and Fates.

Also, yay, Cordelia. I thought they'd pick Sumia from Awakening's stable of Pegasus Knights, so good to see her. Although Cordelia is kind of over-represented in Heroes with two units... and there's Caeldori in Fates.

Male Corrin will likely be in too, hard to tell if F Robin and M Corrin will actually be in the story mode as well, or if they're just a bonus for gameplay purposes.

This is the deciding factor for me purchasing the game or not. I really hope that Male Corrin has a presence in Story Mode.

Because if they break their "only shadow dragon, awakening, and fates for base game" comment for a few popular characters from other entries it'll be some combo of hector, roy, lyn, and ike.

I just plain don't like Female Corrin. I much prefer the Male version. But I'm in the miniscule minority and it sucks.

Robin is okay. Unless she's paired with Chrom. Then it's weird.

It's okay, I'm in the extreme minority where I dislike every FE avatar... except the one in 7, who had zero impact on the story.
