for those who don't know, here's what's this about :

The story follows five mystical warriors called the "Saints" (聖闘士 Seinto, or "Knights" in some adaptations) who fight wearing sacred armors named "Cloths" (聖衣 Kurosu), the designs of which derive from the various constellations the characters have adopted as their destined guardian symbols, and empowered by a mystical energy called "Cosmo" (小宇宙 Kosumo). The Saints have sworn to defend the reincarnation of the Greek goddess Athena in her battle against other Olympian gods who want to dominate Earth.

Here's the glorious original Opening :

Couple of months ago I bought J-Stars Victory VS and saw all these characters I never knew of before. So cool that some of the cheaters in that game are reimagined today xD

It better have fucking Pegasus Fantasy as the opening and what the fuck is that shitty first post.

Go take a Meteor Fist to the face you heathen!

Smart pick from Netflix.

This is going to do insane numbers in France. The original is a cult classic over here, nearly on par with Dragon Ball.

What's even the point of remaking it? The show is really good and way better than the manga already.

Love this series, I picked up the first issue of the manga randomly after seeing the amazing covers in the store once and I loved it.

Given that the success of Voltron likely brought this on, I wonder what other anime that are "popular but of lesser renown than the big one like DBZ" Netflix will turn its attention to if Saint Seiya takes off. They're clearly trying to create a lane here.

Visually, I'd love if they could do for Saint Seiya what they did for Casshern Sins. Art was on point.
It's wonderful that you only remember the art from that show and not the soul crushing sadness that oozed from every episode.

I'm actually jealous of you.

Good get for netflix.

Hopefully they also explore the car/plane saints more throughly. They were like in 1-2 episodes and never heard again

Meh, these 80's Shounen were the typical, battle without substance, that most people complained about in reviews of Shounen's. I never got that critique because One Piece, Naruto, Kenshin and a whole host of other Shounen's I watched had somewhat compelling narratives. And then I had the misfortune of watching or let's say trying to watch, JoJo's Stardust Arc.

Hopefully, if they do remake this, they redo the story a bit to make it more compelling.

Soul crushing is putting it lightly, but I was awestruck by the linework and art - particularly the first episode. I always thought if Seiya got the same treatment, people would lose their shit. The Seiya movies are super polished, but don't come close to the raw energy and style that Casshern did.

the story is pretty simple, and it still follow codes of shonen, A LOT, but there's lot of great, or sad moments in the serie, and the fact that is was filled with wonderfull music helped a lot too, like these :

Under the wood of the world tree

Mime's requiem

For some strange reason I came in here expecting to see the cast from Ronin Warriors. Now I'm disappointed and that is entirely on me... I've never actually seen Saint Seiya though, so I'm pretty excited about that.

Yeah, I echo the rest of French-GAF, this is going to be huge here. Club Dorothée forever!
I hope this is good. I always want to revisit those animes from my childhood but there are so many episodes, I just don't have the time. 12 episodes per season is perfect for me.

Too bad they'll probably never remake Fly (Dai no Daibōken) though, since it's part of Dragon Quest. That was by far my favorite cartoon growing up.

this one will be big among my old non-anime-watching friends since the original show was bigger than dragon Ball back in the day in my country. it was the first anime that really took off here.

let's hope they improve it. the very start of the original has some weird stuff compared to how it went later so i hope they fix the inconsistencies and plot holes to make it flow better.

I have zero hopes for the Italian version by the way, unless they go out of their way to make the script in aulic language like it was in the original adaptation.
I think this is the only anime that i really don't want to watch in Japanese because the Italian version was so much superior in every way.

It's Toei, you'll get cheap ass animation, like they did with Saint Seiya Omega, Dragon Ball Super and the Sailor Moon Remake. Sucks this isn't by a better studio like TMS which did The Lost Canvas series.

CGI? Awful trend for Netflix animu.

Saint Seiya was one of my childhood favorites, but I have very little hope for this. I'll still watch it, cuz fuck it. They won't, cuz people are stupid like that, but they should reuse the original soundtrack as-is.

edit: CGI and Toei animation? Are we gonna get sub-Berserk levels of quality here?

Is such a thing even possible?

I wouldn't even know where to start watching.
Episode 1 of the original series. ;) The original anime covers the first few arcs of the manga, the final arc (Hades chapter) was animated in the early to mid 2000s as a series of 3 OVA series spanning a total of 31 episodes.

I haven't seen the various spin offs but the original series is why everybody likes Saint Seiya so it's worth checking out.
