ATVI: "Crash surpassed our wildest expectations" and "looking at other classic IP"

This was stated by CEO Eric Hirshberg. These quotes probably are not exact. I did my best to transcribe what he said during the Activision earnings call today but some paraphrasing had to happen for me to keep up.

So it's looking like Crash will probably be moving forward with new and "remastered" content and it seems pretty likely we'll see Classic Spyro as well.

It should be noted, Eric was speaking in relation to the numbers they saw in Quarter 2, so this likely only refers to Crash sales in the last two days of June. It's done even more since then. He made a point to mention Sony's release of the PS Store charts this morning as evidence of Crash's legs going forward in the same answer.

Crash had years of build up with the early PS4 cryptic hints and Shawn with that t-shirt.

They need to replicate that if they want Spyro to be as successful.

You'd have to be rock stupid to think that Crash wasn't a big deal and that a revival of the IP wouldn't also be a big deal.

Bullshit. Beyond GAF I'd wager the majority didn't see any of that cryptic shit.

Crash sold because it hit the nostalgia bone hard.

Spyro could do the same, it's unlikely anything else could.

We need a CTR and more games built on the crash 3 frame work. (without that dumb wumpa bazooka)

"see if it can be reborn on new platforms."

Platforms, as in plural. Crash confirmed for PC.
Would be great:^)

Man I don't think that's true really, at least not in the UK. Crash has been like a major, major hit here among normal everyday people; and that's cus everyone played crash as a kid, not cus there was a slow build up that only us hardcore internet nerd types know about.

Spyro was never as big even though us Spyro kids were cooler and obviously had objectively better taste; so Spyro will never sell as well.

Crash Bash and Crash Team Racing next? 😁Looks like there are still plenty of Crash Bandicoot fans out there.

I remember people losing their minds with a Sony Ad that showed a Crash in a traffic sign lol

If they keep up the quality level for future remasters and maybe cut down on boot/load times I will be very happy.

Spyro remake time, with the classic design wiping out that Skylanders abomination. Can't wait.

Year of the dragon, baby!

Spyro isn't nearly as big as Crash and I do not think a new Crash game would sell too much. Crash Team Racing makes the most sense.

Toys to life are a dead fad aside from Amiibo so you already got your wish.

Bolded may be true, but Activision made a point the whole call to still list Skylanders as a major franchise. The rumors that it's being cut are clearly false. Eric specifically said it's being "reborn on Mobile" and talked about exploring future options and, although this is my own anecdotal stuff here, merchandise and television show are still doing well from what I hear. It may be downsized from what it once was, but they clearly still see value in pursuing it. SL Spyro is going nowhere.
