Let's look over Nintendo's recent crossovers

So pumped for Raving Rabbids and Pokken. Now if only Nintendo would give TMS another shot by giving it a Switch port as well. Looks way too unique to let fade away locked onto the WiiU.

Damn, I had no idea there's been so many crossover games already, and some quite odd pairings at that.

I'm still convinced we're on a slow path toward a series of super-massive everything-mashups sampling characters from any and everywhere. It's the inevitable conclusion to endless new crosses between series in different combinations, where each release just makes players want even more mashups. Something preposterous like SF x Tekken x Capcom x Dissidia x Smash. Or, failing other options, just bringing absolutely everyone into Smash and talk Nintendo into licensing out ports to other consoles to it could include freaking everyone (where they'd get a cut + retain the rights for all esports). I want absurd play modes like 50-player online free-for-alls or huge team battles. Just make it as ludicrously over-the-top as possible in every imaginable way.

And no, I'm not high and/or drunk. Just go balls-out on a mega project and bring in fans from everywhere into the base Smash format. Pretty much a #YOLO video game concept, but damn it'd do well.

Also, Pokemon Conquest is kind of amazing because it has a guy on the cover who is a famous pedarast and also burned families to death in their homes. That will never get old to me.

Well that's typical of Japan's pop culture depiction of Nobunaga, isn't it? They can't decide whether he was a brilliant visionary who occasionally overlooked his morals for the sake of creating a better world, or literally just Dracula.

I hope we get a third one on Switch, also Pokemon Conquest 2.

Nintendo's crossovers are massively better than their spinoffs.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions was my favourite. That game had no business being announced as SMT x FE, though. Really hurt the game. Had it been announced as TMS, with a part of the trailer saying 'Inspired by elements of SMT and FE' then people would have been far more receptive to it. Instead their was an implicit promise of what it would be (turn based FE gameplay with SMT demons) that was broken, and people said 'fuck this game'.

Pokken was also amazing, I just wish it had a slightly quicker single player mode with less grinding. And the visuals on the Wii U were really awful. I also liked campaign mode of Hyrule Warriors (fuck adventure mode though) and some parts of the Mario Sonic Olympics games have been decent.

Overall it's a pretty good record. Roll on Mario x Rabbids.

That studio that develops X Zone and Namco X Capcom before it is part of Monolith Soft. I don't think that studio (Monolith Soft has 3) has ever worked on a Nintendo game. Instead even after the Nintendo purchase they've continued to make games published by Namco-Bandai but only for the DS and 3DS.

They're actually due for a new release next year. I wonder if they continue the X Zone series since they can reuse the sprites? If they do would like to see some more Nintendo franchises.

As much as I love this game. I really don't understand why those two series of all things.

Itagaki Street was created by the creator of Dragon Quest Yūji Horii.

While the first 4 games (NES, SNES, PS1 and PS2) didn't have any guest characters a second PS2 game released did by having Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy together not too long after the Squaresoft and Enix merger.

There was PSP game also having DQ and FF. For the DS entry afterwards they had it be Mario and Dragon Quest which makes sense with how much Dragon Quest was on DS. Then there was a second mobile game with DQ and FF. After that Fortune Street on Wii and now releasing this year on PS4 and Vita a new one celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy.

PxZ saw a big sales drop between the 1st and 2nd games. It's a shame since the 2nd game attempted to avoid the problem with really long and repetitive battles later in the game. I guess even if they make another game like it, it'll have a different title and visual presentation, in order to avoid associating itself with that brand.

I think it might do better retooled for mobile, even if it retained the same style of sprites and presentation. The gacha RPG genre is more than overstuffed, but the density of crossovers might be able to give it some kind of hook (as well as possibly fill a void when it comes to the lacklustre presence of Capcom IP on mobile). The licensing might be an issue with the change in format, though...

I still want that Pokémon x Fire Emblem crossover they were about to make. Probably wouldn't count in this thread since it's two first-party IPs, but yeah. Conquest was still not bad though.

Sadly the guy behind Namco X Capcom, Endless Frontier, and PxZ series left Monolith Soft.

Oh wow your right, Soichiro Morizumi at the end of March this year. Can't seem to find a thread on the news. Another producer who worked on those games also left at the same time. The former was at Monolith Soft for 14 years and planned to remain in the games industry.

Definitely looks like there won't be any followup to those SRPG's.

I wonder what that team will do now? Repurposed into an art/asset creation team like the other non-main Monolith Soft team?

Yeah, I was surprised when they left. I guess Monolith's moving away from those kinds of games and they saw no point in sticking around.

Well that explains that. I'm hoping they'll eventually release again on a Nintendo platform. Playing this in the Switch would be great.

I am currently playing Tokyo Mirage Sessions and it's seriously one of the most enjoyable JRPGs I have ever played. The battle system is extremely addicting, I never get tired of fighting, and unlocking new abilities is so satisfying. The game also looks so crisp (is this running at 1080p?) and the character design is so great, I love them all.

Maturity, bitches.
A little note should be made about Amiibo as it has meant Nintendo themed unlockables i.e. costumes have appeared in various third party games. Also, the Smash Amiibo have resulted in the likes of Pac-Man and Sonic to continue to appear in other Nintendo games.

Can't wait for MARIO Rabbids, hope there's an iron man mode.

Now for the real question. Given Splatoon's success how soon will we see a crossover/spinoff and what genre will it be?

Splatoon X Advance Wars..,

Nintendo please.... (the sea/marine ink vehicles alone could be amazing)

I absolutely love that Nintendo is big on the crossover train, but man Tokyo Mirage Sessions REALLY did me dirty.

Can't say I won't buy them in the future, but my enthusiasm for them has definitely taken a hit.
