Someone took a crappy house for 800k on my street and relisted it after some renovation for 1.2 million (for a semi detached??). God the home prices are absurd now.

I went running this morning along the lakeshore and realized I was jogging through the Caribbean fest set up. Saw some floofy dis in the dog park, got pho for breakfast then went to a giant mall, and napped

I was wondering why so many people were walking around in outfits today. I saw a bunch of participants walking outside my place this morning.

They definitely didn't enter the market at the right time.
Yeah, they took too long to renovate. When the house was first listed in its "fixer upper" form, it was sold in a couple of days after the open house last year. The fact that it's still on the market after a week is a sign of "cooling", but even then, if the asking price is 1.2 mil (which they probably need to at least make some small amount of money if not simply to break even) it goes to show that the market is still stupid.

Man, if you didn't buy a house a decade (or more) ago and you're interested in buying a home to live in and not to flip as an investment, you're kind of fucked.

Anyone know of good pizza within walking distance of fort York? (that's pretty close to where I'm Staying)

If you want to try some Chicago Style Pizza there's a Double D's on Dundas West a 30 mins walking estimate via google (a nice distance so you can work off the calories). You can plan the route so you walk through Trinity Bellwoods park which is nice if the weather is cooperating.

Anyone been out playing Pokemon Go the last couple of weekends? With the new legendaries released I've met more people who still play the game than I expected.

Will QA for food.

Working downtown near Roy Thompson Hall, there are always a dozen, or more people at any time walking around playing. During the Lugia event, there were 50+ the couple of times I was there, battling.

Does anyone else believe its feasible, that if Kuro was into Pokemon Go, he would bully little children out of prime real estate encounter areas in order to catch himself some wild Pokemons?

Sometimes I go out and I see a ton of people all huddled around street corners with their phones out.

At least it's not like last summer where you got packs of people just bulldozing down the sidewalk staring at their phones.

some thoughts now that im back in Cleveland.

Toronto is wonderfully diverse, I heard probably 8-9 languages being spoken, and tons of people waling around.

haven't had enough food to judge it, stuff I got was decent enough,.

I went to the N'awlins jazz bar and had some tasty drinks and listened to some great jazz.

negative though, I don't think anyone in toronto understands how to drive.

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

negative though, I don't think anyone in toronto understands how to drive.

Being from Vancouver, I find that you're almost better off here for driving.

Compared to Vancouver drivers, Toronto drivers are more aggressive. Drivers in Vancouver are unskilled, especially in Richmond.

Montreal has the worst drivers. And the worst roads, ever.

I remember eating at a restaurant in Montreal, and some snob was laughing a bit too loudly at a story about Rob Ford on the big screen TV. He was really having an unnecessarily long laugh at the late Mayor's expense, and wouldn't shut up about how Toronto had a crack head for it's leader at the time.

At this point, I felt it was my duty to loudly reply back that while Ford was indeed a man who was addicted to crack, at least he did not leave huge amounts of crack in our streets. Or in Montreal's case, literal cracks.

That's the worst comeback I've ever read.

When in doubt, always make reference to Montreal's shitty roads. It will cause the local masses to forget about how you insulted them, and simply make them more angry at the corrupt government for siphoning away their tax money to obvious non-usage on roads.

The yearly construction holidays in Quebec are ridiculous, because nothing actually happens.

It was weird seeing A&C games on the news today.

(The story being that FPSes destroy your brain and can lead to depression and alzheimer's while platformers improve your brain)

I want to see the receipts.

Every study I've actually gone through to see their shitty experiments has been very poorly run.

Any of you want to make the meet up thread? I'm too lazy... :'(

Holy fuck my girlfriend and I were listening to the radio when they came on with that study. We cringed so hard.

At the end the guy was like this:

The sample size is really small.
The study is 'controversial."

aka it doesn't mean shit.

I mean, for me, obviously games like The Witness make you think more but I don't go to video games to get smart lol sometimes I want a 'mindless' shooter.

Ok and even then in Titanfall 2 I'm constantly thinking of where my enemy is, etc I don't know what I am trying to say.

Cool shit from /r/Toronto.

They probably used call of duty for their shooter. If I had a bunch of kids yelling at me on voice comm, I'd become dumb too.

Finally went to Toronto Islands this year and ended up taking a timelapse and photos.

Here's a photo:
Toronto 2017 by Carl Sim, on Flickr

A .gif of the timelapse (not all of it)

I'll post the timelapse whenever I get that done.

Hold on to your sour beer loving butts, Rodenbach Grand Cru is about to hit the LCBO. (It apparently already hit Peterborough for some reason, which is how I found out, but it should be in Toronto next week.)

Sooooooooooooo you guys know Reg Hartt? The guy who runs the Cineforum, the weird little theatre inside a house at College and Bathurst?

You've probably seen his ads:

Has anyone noticed that those posters, though, have taken a bit of a turn lately?

I've been to Cineforum a couple of times and of course you see his posters all over the fucking place, but I never really got a crazy person vibe from him before.

But he has a poster for Birth Of A Nation with this description under it that says "people think DW Griffith was a racist, and Birth of a Nation was a racist film. They are wrong." And, uh, it's a stunning achievement in cinema history for sure but it's also for sure like suuuuuper racist.

So that's like weird but whatever, but the other poster that's around lately is for a presentation by Reg about how the Shroud of Turin is real? Like some really kooky sounding religious conspiracy stuff.

I dunno. I wonder if he is going crazier. I kind of want to go to the Shroud of Turin thing just to see if it is what it sounds like (the batshit ravings of an elderly hippie) or if I'm just taking it wrong.

I've always wanted to see Kid Dracula, but isn't it just setup in this guys living room or something similar? I find that off puting

Haha yeah.

Like it's not just a little room with a couch and a chair or something, it's pretty long if I remember correctly and there are folding chairs set up in rows. It probably holds like 25 people max. But it is also clearly just a room in a house which does make it kind of weird.

wake me up when it's not cash only

who the fuck carries cash anymore.

Yeah when I turned 30 I completely lost patience with cash only places. Even bars. If you cannot deal with a debit card in 2017 it's because you have some expensive ATM in the corner or you're cheating on your taxes.

Cash-only is definitely some illegal stuff...there's this Hong Kong lobster place I went to, I think it's called Fisherman's Clubhouse or something like that. The basic thing is to get the fried lobster, which is about a hundred bucks a pop, and that's what everywhere around us was getting. The place is cash only, so they're snatching up 100+ per bill on the regular, straight cash. Got to be something sketchy there, lol
