LawBreakers |OT| Zero G, With Cliffy B

wow, the titan is hot garbage.

Here's a few Titan tips:

If you're struggling to hit your rockets, remember that you can remote detonate them by hitting your alt-fire button. This makes all engagements much easier, since you don't have to rely on grounded hits or direct hits--you just need good spacial awareness.

If you're also struggling with movement outside of zero-g, I'd practice the blind-fire rocket jump technique. Look up slightly, then blind-fire and jump to gain a great momentum boost. This will take practice, because you can actually deal minimal damage to yourself and still get great velocity by doing this technique.

One of the devs just posted in the Discord that they are all aware of the hitching issues on the PS4 and are looking into getting it patched or fixed as quickly as possible.

Boggles the mind why they even bothered to release the game and didn't notice this before?

This incompetence does not bode well for the future of the game on consoles if the whole platform is an afterthought to them...

Console reviews will be in the toilet even if they patch it some months from now.

Yeah the way they've handled the console version of this game has been poor, to be honest. Both in marketing, and support.

I was already shocked, when the beta wasn't exactly smooth. There's no reason the PS4 Pro should be experiencing any hitching on a game like this, and it just felt like it wasn't properly optimised for the platform. Now it's ten times worse. Not certain how they managed it.

In general I think they've messed up the console launch for the game. With Titanfall, Respawn pushed it as a console game and consumers gravitated towards it. Even though it's a relatively high-skill, twitchy game that can be played faster on keyboard and mouse, it's considerably more popular on console, and particularly PS4. People like this type of game, but they need to know it exists.

It likely could have been the same for Lawbreakers, but they didn't push the game on the platform, and generally, persistently showed more attention to the PC versions.

If they don't fix the stutters in a few days the game will review poorly on console, and effectively be dead on console. There's no way it has a strong enough existing userbase to survive the bad press that typically comes with having your game critisied for struggle with major technical issues.

Its most likely not a client issue. It seems to be the servers themselves and how they are handling the data packets. And like its fucking launch day give them a break. They'll iron it out. Its not like this is the first online game that might need a few days to iron out server issues.

Can this be confirmed? Like, does the tutorial play smoothly? I'm at work and can't check myself. Don't even know for sure if there's an offline tutorial..

Can't 100% confirm it but it really does seem like the server isn't sending all the data packets or something. Too often I'd be like walking forward and then be like 20 feet back from where I was after the hitch. Also there isn't any tutorial or training mode on the PS4 version yet.

It appears to be a client bug. They've put a message up in game now, it says after a match you will experience hitching on following game.

Well the PC numbers don't exactly bode well for the future of the game on PC. It's below Battleborn launch numbers.

This looks like loads of fun. Hope it does well on consoles, and has some legs. Might pick this up in a while.

Good steam reviews and a pretty healthy community on discord though. Since it's a purchased game plus MT then I can see it being very profitable for Boss Key / Nexon.

You don't need huge player numbers to make MT work successfully. So long as the community is healthy (people can get games), and the MT is implemented in a way that makes sense and offers good value, then I'm sure it will be a success for boss key.

Battleborn's problem was
a) multiplayer wasn't healthy, players stopped being able to find matches quickly, because the matchmaking was inherently slow, and players were split across 4 playlists
b) MT offered poor value and seemed cheap to paying consumers. There was no way for regular players to unlock the premium outfits, the prices for each weren't exactly encouraging, and without a randomised loot based system there was no reason to spend any more than the exact amount for the character costume that you wanted

Not saying all of that is consumer friendly practice, but those are the reasons that Battleborn died. Battleborn wasn't popular because of its marketing, but Gearbox killed it with how they handled the community and game. Bringing in features like a new mode, when the community couldn't even fill all of the playlists in the existing modes, was a terrible idea. By the time they converged the playlists everyone was gone. Most people weren't willing to sit and wait 5-10 minutes for a match, understandably.

I didn't play the betas, so I jumped in blind. The game play is really solid, I'm enjoying it a lot. I'm not that fond of any of the characters though. They just seem bland and generic.

I hope the game does well because the game play is top notch.

yeah the characters are certainly generic, and like many have said, have no distinguishing silhouettes or abilities beyond Harrier lasers etc. so you know what you are running against when you see an enemy. (certainly a benefit in Overwatch etc.)

But i do like the actual weapons and movement, and the game modes are really refreshing after playing TDM, DOM and CTF for 30 years :D

I couldn't help but notice that Overwatch launched the summer games thing the same day of release of Lawbreakers, including Lucioball.

Its a smart business move but shoot... still feels a bit scummy? I guess they felt threatened but Overwatch is huge, doesn't seem like they need to pull stuff like this to keep players from leaving.

I disagree with this.

For one thing, just because other games design around having a recognisable 'silhouette' doesn't mean that every game has to. It's not an absolute of game design. If you want your characters to be recognised there are a fair number of ways to do so, beyond the silhouette.

In this games case I would argue that players have a variety of methods to tell which is which in a firefight. Particularly, every character has a unique weapon and movement system.

I recognise each character, in different ways

Gunslinger - His gunfire. His gunfire is distinctive, leaving sniper style 'tracers', and of course, the teleportation is a dead giveaway.

Wrath - His movement. He's the most agile class in the game. If played right, you can easily distinguish him from a crowd.

Harrier - His movement and weapon (lasers)

Juggernaut - Distinctive sillouete and 'boots on the ground' gameplay make this class easy to identify. Additionally, his two abilities are very easily recognisable, either making his HP bar appear different, or putting up a persistent shield.

Assassin - The slender female silhouette is unique among the cast, and her grappling hook is a dead giveaway.

Vanguard - Silhouette is pretty distinctive with the shoulder mounted thrusters. Weapon is distinctive too.

Titan - Easily recognised, biggest character in the game, shoots rockets.

Medic - The floating healing drones give them the most distinctive sillouette in the game. Their movement style is also quite a giveaway.

Enforcer - Fairly distinctive weapon and boots on the ground playstyle.

Additionally, it could be argued that the ability to discriminate between classes is a skill that players can develop based on their understanding of the game. Being able to tell the difference between an Enforcer and a Vanguard shooting you at mid-range is a something that has the opportunity to separate a mediocre, from a good player. Failing to serve that information on a plate isn't a poor design choice, it's just a design choice, one which has its share of pros and cons.

I think they need to turn off SBMM as possible. The population isn't large enough to sustain it and I don't want to wait 5 minutes for matches.

The most important thing is quick matches. In a month, it will be brutal - let's fix the problem before it actually hurts us.

Did you watch the class videos in OP? Thought they were pretty cool at bringing the characters to life, at least for me. I felt the same now the game is like special ops cops (squad team of personality) Vs the criminal elite (a death squad), and it's known gaf loves boss death squads.

Agree.

I also never see the point in SBMM in general. If they want a skill based mode then include ranked and let people play that. I'm sure this game will have a ranked mode eventually, so why pack SBMM into casual matches too?

It's the same in Overwatch and Rocket League. I get bored of playing casual matches because I play the same types of players that I played in ranked.

Exactly, that's why Respawn refuses to turn it on for Titanfall 2. I can get games in 30 seconds. SSBM is a horrible substitute to ranked play.

Well damn, I haven't had a chance to play it yet, but waking up to hear about technical issues is dissapointing. Oh well, hopefully it will be fixed by the time I get to try it tonight.

Looks like I found my class. Vanguard is great. I love how aggressive and punishing she is.

The Summer Games in Overwatch ran from August 2, 2016, and ended on August 22, 2016 last year. It's only starting a week later this year.

The Summer Games were here first. Cliffy B did this to himself.

Yes I don't think I will purchase until fixed. Can't have it in a game like this.

Yeah, it's horrible. Screwed me over a lot last night. They are working on a fix ASAP.

I'm spending this time just reading the character abilities and trying out skills ingame. There is no practise mode either so sorry if i ruin your games :p Can't play seriously yet as the freezeframes are gamebreaking in my opinion.

Yeah, I got the achievement for S+.

S+ is really tough, only got a few of those. With SBMM my teammates tend to be more competitive so the points are spread out.

The more new players the better. We want to grow ;)

Yeah for sure. When I used to play Rocket League I got to a point where I kept being matched with players like Kronovi and Gibbs in unranked (ESL players). Really frustrating because if I'm playing casual I just want to have a quick game and chill out. I don't want to spend a couple of minutes searching for a game, and then end up with some sweaty match against high level players. If you're just playing casual, it's nice to have a random distribution.

It's like, if you were Ronaldo, a world class football player, and you went to the park to have a mess around with some friends and a football, but it turned out that every time you went there, the rest of Barcelona FC were there too. It would get annoying. In the same way, if you were terrible at football, you wouldn't want to go to the park and see everyone falling over themselves all of the time. Sometimes it's good to have variance and be exposed to occasional players of higher skill. It can be entertaining (and valuable) to observe what they do.

I'm really against SBMM in general. Just add a ranked mode, keep casual as the lightening fast, press 1 button to get into a game, mode that it should be.

Yep, I hope the devs realize this. SBMM will be a HUGE detriment.

Just buy it on Steam. If it doesn't work, you can refund it no questions asked as long as you've played less than two hours.

The last thing this game needed was launch issues. It's already flying a little under the radar, and the beta numbers were lukewarm. Game is fun as hell, hopefully this gets fixed soon. I'm playing tonight either way.

Agree with this. Trying to decide between this and hellblade. Kind of hesitant to try this with destiny 2 coming out in a month. It's going to take a backseat.

that was my plan to play this until Destiny comes along, the 26$ pre-order was good value (if the game would function properly) for a couple months of gaming.

Someone mentioned it already, but I love how blizzard conveniently tried to cockblock this game with the summer games release today. Funny stuff.

Yeah, it's unfortunate. Let's hope for a fix tonight.
