Well Watch Dogs 2 was hugely down also in west compared to original (even comparing PS4 versions alone). I don't think it's good example.

There is Destiny 2, Trails of Cold Steel III and The Evil Within 2 coming later this year.

Trails of Cold Steel III could be the only one among them that won't see sales dropping a lot.

I've heard Falcom has lower expectation for CS3 than CS2, which I think is reasonable.

I'm still kind of amazed that Dai Gyakuten Saiban 2 got the green light in the first place, but I'm glad it did.

And with these numbers I'm even gladder they had the sense to wrap it up in this game instead of set up a third.

Leaving the story of the first game unresolved would have pissed off the fan base and created bad word of mouth. The damage (for the IP as a whole) would be greater than by releasing another low selling installment of a spin off.

Mario kart is a franchise that's been around for 20 years and on every system since the snes.

It's still an absurd, unsupported claim even if it doesn't refer to sales.

Not even other Mario branded multiplayer ips are comparable to mario kart. Not even smash brothers if you want to count that

When Splatoon was announced, Reggie said it would be for shooters what Mario Kart was for racing games. And he was right. Similar (but not the same) expectations are certainly hinging on ARMS.

They are repeating the recipe of Splatoon: completely new IP with no direct ties to previous IPs. Staggered content release to keep it going well after release.

The main difference is, Nintendo didn't have any notable, successful or other, shooter IPs before Splatoon. Whereas they have a hugely successful fighter IP with Smash. I don't think ARMS is expected to live up to Smash or fill a gap, because there wasn't one.

ARMS is a bit different from MK and Splatoon in that it probably is supposed to benefit other existing IPs more than to become the top dog of its genre. The Switch is perfect for fighting games, because of the portable local multiplayer. There already are plenty of them on Switch too.

But I think a lot of casual gamers won't touch them because they seem too complicated or maybe even too violent. ARMS provides a perfect entry level game to the genre. Deep enough to satisfy core gamers but accessible enough to be picked up and played by casuals as well. The character roster also should appeal to casuals as well as serious fighting gamers.

ARMS could be the Wii Sports of fighting games, in the sense that it can be accessible like Wii Sports. It won't be anywhere near as successful as Wii Sports in terms of sales, but it could manage to achieve what Wii Sports failed to do: get "non-gamers" (really light gamers) to try "real" games (really core games).

I've heard Falcom has lower expectation for CS3 than CS2, which I think is reasonable.

I actually think Cold Steel 3 is going to do a lot better than I initially thought when they announced it as PS4-only, but I definitely think it'll see a drop from CS2.

Sen no Kiseki was 250k+ across PS3/PSV, it will have 0 problem doing 100k even if PS4 exclusive.

As for expectations I only remember them mentioning expecting bigger sales outside Japan, a drop was/is to be expected from SNK 1 & 2 but after the failure of Tokyo Xanadu ex+ Ys 8 sales on PS4 were pretty solid so one could say Falcom fans got the memo.

The game is also a significant release for the Eiyuu no Kiseki series and they're trying to get fan of both Sora & Ao:Zero aboard, combined with the (slightly?) higher budget I'd say that so far sales expectations in Japan should only go upward from there

Dengeki data is out: http://dengekionline.com/elem/000/001/574/1574048/

Sell-through ratio for DGS2 is 55%... like, why on earth did they overship THAT game of all games. Crazy. I guess they assumed people who bought the first one would be back for the sequel? Since shipment was about 136k, and DGS sold 139k during launch week (all Dengeki data, obviously).

Yeah, I think the kind of people Falcom caters to are hardcore enough that going back to consoles shouldn't alienate all that many of them. A drop from Cold Steel 2 is likely to be expected either way, but hopefully it won't be too significant.

My comment on sales wasn't as negative as other here but the ST is very low

There is of course the fact they will be counting on Steam too from now. Trails of Cold Steel's start is pretty niche (12K owners according to SteamSpy) but it's safe to assume Cold Steel III will be announced simultaneously on PS4 and Steam in the west

MK8D is looking set to start overtaking MK8 in the upcoming weeks.
MK8 finished with 851K sales in 2014 something which MK8D should fairly easily pass well before December. Obviously MK8 launched a month later but it was heavily bundled unlike MK8D.

Is it possible for you to add MK7 to the comparison after MK8D overtakes MK8?
I think MK8D's first year will be similar to MK7's. In the end MK8 on the Wii U was held back by the system. While MK7's first year ended up around 1.8 million, compared to around 1 million for MK8 on the Wii U. In any case as I've said previously while people were doubting this port, for 3DS owners it's a huge upgrade to MK7 and it's selling like one, as more kids pick up Switches this month and in December MK8D will also rise.

I think the PSV-WII U-PS4 vs switch is over now. Let's get real and compare the switch to the big ones.

55ORqC8.png

Switch could have NDS numbers if it were available in similar quantities but it is not. Demand for the Switch will stay incredibly high even throughout 2018 for sure and if it drops at some point then there will be a revision with smaller production nodes and therefore a smaller price.

The Switch is on its way to reach 30m ltd if Nintendo doesn't screw up and keeps delivering 60k a week at least. (plus tons more for the holiday season and major launches)

Also note how the 3DS managed to catch up to the NDS later on.

Great news for this weekend, even small stores are getting more Switch units than usual. A Santy shop assistant said that they are not having restrictions to sell them (only one unit per person, though)

Huh, that would be the first time since launch, no?

Media Create also expects more casual buyers to buy 3DS DQXI during Obon.

I suspect that if Obon wasn't split between Week 32 and 33, DQXI third week could see an increase in sales.

They do break down revenue by hd games/MMO/mobile. A good 25 to 35% of thier income comes from MMOs and i think thats just FFXIV and DQ10. The FF MMOs make alot more money than the single player games do. Im sure DQX is the same way.

lol, watch every DX games on the Switch outsell their Wii U counterpart. Pokken Tournament DX is next on that list.

Great news for this weekend, even small stores are getting more Switch units than usual. A Santy shop assistant said that they are not having restrictions to sell them (only one unit per person, though)
Gamesmaya said she was bombed from the morning with inquiries for Switch stock.

Bic Camera hasn't updated yet the schedule for Switch lotteries. They will happen at Sunday, with the announcement tomorrow for the stores, or they'll try to sell them with the traditional way, meaning no info for the shipment. That second scenario has very low chances to happen though.

Yeah all of the ports/rerelease on 3DS outsold the Wii U entries as well. Look at Hyrule Warriors Legends, it sold 100k on Wii U and the 3DS version sold a little bit more than than. Mario Maker on Wii U sold about 800K while it's gimped port that was missing a lot of features sold 1 million on the 3DS.

Well, nevermind my excitement then. The Wii U did that badly huh?

Ah I must've missed updated numbers. I was searching for a while and those were the last numbers, I could find in media create. How much competitively did they sell to their 3DS counterparts?

These are special Amazon bundles for holidays tomorrow, and not very limited at quantity. You'll see a big rise for Mario Kart and Arms at Media Create like Bomberman a few weeks before.

considering this came out for Vita and PS3, I wonder why it only appears on PS4, the hardware with the smallest userbase. price maybe?

I'd think Japan would be all over the portable version on Vita but doesn't seem to be the case.

Okami's site has everything.
Thank you

That and/or the 3DS did that well in Japan, and the Switch may ultimately be more of a success story than the 3DS is there.

While I expected Splatoon 2 to outsell the original, I think I really underestimated the popularity of a portable Splatoon in Japan.
I think the less focused on part for Switch's success is its software sales. It has a very healthy software market with people purchasing a lot of games. It's software sales are a lot better than 3DS, PS4, Vita and Wii U.

Also Wii U really hampered all sales. Splatoon sold about 1.5 million to a 3 million userbase. The Switch will likely outsell the Wii U in Japan in its first fiscal year.

Speaking of I guess Mario Maker Switch will probably end up as a full sequel and not an enhanced port if it hasn't been announced by now.

I don't think a sequel to Mario Maker would require that much development time or resources. They made NSLU in 2013 and were able to release Mario Maker on Wii U in 2015. I think they will give us a sequel to the Wii U entry with a lot more content added and possibly other modes/features likely in 2018. However, I suspect it has less to do with how long it takes to make a sequel and more to do with Nintendo not wanting to blow through all of its major sellers in one year.

Speaking of which, 2018 will be much bigger for Switch in Japan. It is likely we will see Fire Emblem, Kirby, Super Smash Bros., Mario Maker, Animal Crossing and Pokemon in 2018 for Switch. That alone will beat 2017's killer lineup of Zelda, Mario Kart, Arms, Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey, and Xenoblade 2. Most of Nintendo's franchises seem to get substantial boosts after they release a successful mobile title in that franchise. Curious to see if we will see a big effect for Fire Emblem Switch. Depending on execution and factoring in Fire Emblem Heroes, spin-offs, smash appearances, and it's overall growing popularity. I think we could see Fire Emblem sell even more than Fates. Mario Maker is another franchise that I think will surprise people by sales. It was selling over a million on Wii U's slightly over 3 million userbase. That gimped 3DS port, that loses half the appeal of the game, sold a million as well in Japan. I could see it being a 1.5-2 million seller on Switch.

Yeah, I think the kind of people Falcom caters to are hardcore enough that going back to consoles shouldn't alienate all that many of them. A drop from Cold Steel 2 is likely to be expected either way, but hopefully it won't be too significant.
But aside a very short stint on SFC they never were on console.
