FOV ADJUSTMENT FOR PS4!? OH MY GOD. This is the only thing I wanted! I can finally play again without getting a headache. \o/

I had a similar reaction when I saw this in the patch notes. I have to sit so far away when I play Destiny because of the FOV, at least I can scoot closer when I dive into this NMS Update tonight.

So we have the start of a multiplayer system, where we can now chill with up to 16 others on a planet and explore (they appear as orbs currently, probably due to players not actually having character models yet).

We have low flight (finally) and they've even added a punishment for flying low if you crash into things (you have to repair your ship before you can leave that planet).

And we have STARGATES!

With all this... I still think I'm most excited to discover more in the story and universe of NMS.

Is this worth purchasing at this point? Does PS4 have 4K/HDR support? I am just got the Pro and 4K TV I wanted to use it some more outside of Horizon :)

You pretty much have to restart after the last patch or two. They've reset the world generation, added whole new features, etc. It'll probably force you to start again, or at least say "you can continue but everything will be different".

I'm gonna restart. When I jumped into my save file for the first time in months for previous updates I had no idea what I was doing, where I was or how to play the game anymore... I'll keep that file around but will start a new one to enjoy all the new content.

I hope everyone enjoys the update and I'm glad they're adding features but these patch notes still don't put them anywhere near the type of game that was described and hyped pre release. I hope everyone enjoys the game but let's not forget history

I mean, this puts them pretty damn near. Like not the bullseye but a couple of inches out.

Either way - it's only going to get better. At least two parts of these patch notes suggest they're far from done.

Time to start playing again. Debating if I should a new game or continue the survival one. Survival got a bit tiring after a while...

So, in joint exploration the other people are these blue orbs thing? weird

Yeah, it looks like a half-step (and they hint at as much in the patch notes), so that we can VOIP and actually be in the same place, but without the need for them to sync up animations, collisions and interactions yet. Since they've added that much (and so much more by the looks of the patch notes), I'm pretty sure they're working towards seeing each other and having more interactive coop experiences for future updates.

Yes pro supports 4k dunno about hdr tho.
It's very cheap nowadays so yes it is very worth it.

There have been 3 huge updates since launch when you start playing from this weekend.

Excellent and meaty update.
Now its time for me to dive back in and see if I can get back into this.

I've actually missed playing NMS since stopping late last year.

Going to re-purchase this.

I actually really enjoyed this game initially until the veil of overall pointlessness and the lack of content crashed down around me, then never touched it again. It sounds like a LOT has been done to address that content since then.

Do we know any more about this 30 hour story? I mean that sounds like a super substantial thing to drop in a patch.

Yup. No true 4k(??), but looks great on my 4k tv. HDR is good too.

EDIT: Not sure if it's native 4k. But Either way, you have a toggle to have a higher framerate vs a better res.

It's 1800p, which is near native 4K (which is 2160p)

Yep.

The only thing I can remember is him saying "you'd have to see another player to understand what you look like". They're clearly not there yet, but are clearly committed to it.

I mean, faction warfare is in, economy is in, stuff shown in the trailers is in (low flying etc), crazier planet gen towards the center is in, multiplayer is (nominally) in...

What else was there? I guess alien lifeforms damaging the world isn't in (the rhino from trailer 1 busting trees up).

It supports HDR too, I play in 4K HDR via PS4 Pro. The HDR implementation is good too. It also renders at (near) Native 4K.

Awesome, thanks! So where can I get it cheap? Digital would be best (and quickest)

Not anywhere near? At best, that's blatant hyperbole. They even managed to get multiplayer in there.

They added these notes to the website. It's 16 player Co-Op:

Glitches in the simulation have begun to appear.
Visualised by strange floating orbs, up to 16 players can see and communicate with one another, and explore the universe together.
While interaction with others is currently very limited, this is an important first step into the world of synchronous co-op in No Man’s Sky.
While interaction is very limited, VOIP (Voice over IP) allows proximity based voice chat with other nearby explorers.
Use portals to quickly travel to more populated planets, or to meet up with friends.

They say it's a first step for coop so it will probably get more fleshed out (with player models) later.

Oh, cool.

Guess they really wanted to put out some version of this asap, maybe even for testing purposes

I've put maybe 20 or 30 hours into the game on normal, but have not played for nearly a year. Should I just restart to enjoy the update properly?

I am in the same position and I will restart.

Same here. I wouldn't know where to start if I jumped in now after stopping shortly after launch. Didn't they add a major option at the start of the last patch? I can't remember what it was, but I seem to recall it being a major thing. I never bothered with it.

Only thing i can think about is non limited multiplayer wich they seem to want to do since this is the very first step as they said in the patch notes/update news.
Multiplayer was never hyped by Hello Games as being anything more than the infinitely small chance to see another player and potentially interact with them. It was certainly not promised as some built up mode with any depth.

Absolutely restart. It's changed so much. The economy of buying ships and getting tech is different from when it first launched.

One year later, Hello Games finally redeemed themselves from many. I hope they're finally getting the love after the overwhelming hate. This is among the worst case of death threats and hatred for video games.
Let's turn the steam reviews upside down.

If you are from US is it on the summer sale on psn? Otherwise the UK and EU psn store have it on sale as of now wich should be like 13-17 bucks or so if you convert the money to dollars.

I just bought this and started playing an hour ago. Is the patch with it or will I have to restart?

You have to wait a bit. The patch releases today, no specific time has been released yet but shouldn't be that many hours.

And also, if you meant restarting your journey, I don't think you have to start a new game to get the benefits.

No the patch isn't released yet. You won't have to restart to get all the benefits of it though, you'll just begin to see and be able to partake in the things this patch brings.

For me, I'm going to start a new save to explore it all from a new starting planet and beyond on the new patch.

Cool, enjoying it so far. I'll guess I'll just wait a while and play with this new patch then.

I feel like I should start a new file as I won't know where to look for the new stuff. I havent played since the original base building update.

Let alone actually active advertised a such. I know people like to make the point that interviews and such are technically advertisements too, but it'd be something different if during the marketing spree before the game's release, they had a 5th video that was all about multiplayer, and then ended up not delivering on it.
