Fine. My point is to kill the Nazi ideology. We CAN do that. You just seem to be unable to grasp that.

I don't think you can kill the ideology that easily though. Honestly, even if hate speech laws were introduced and implemented correctly I don't think you'd come close to killing the ideology

Why don't you people just read up for like a second on how hate speech laws work in European countries? Neither the government nor the majority of people can suddenly change the law to target fucking BLM lmao...

Btw what makes you think your government is respecting any part of your current constitutional laws?

20 fucking years old. This is what the redpill/Gamergate/4chan radicalization pipeline gives us. This shit is no different than ISIS recruiting

Nah, shit's been going on a long time before that crap and will be going on a long time after it's all gone.

Racism is ingrained in the very bedrock of our society.

Ignorance of the law is the best way to push vague slipper slope arguments!

There isn't even a meaningful discussion here about the right to peaceably assemble.

This was not a peaceful assembly. Not just because of the terrorist attack, but in fact it ceased to be a peaceful assembly the moment assaults (including threats with potentially deadly weapons) became a part of it, and was no longer protected speech that should have been allowed to continue.

The fact that those assembling quite clearly had the intention of showing up with weapons and making threats further means that it was an incitement to violence, and thus not protected speech, either.

There are useful discussions to be had regarding the rights of free speech and assembly and where the limitations (if any) should apply, but honestly even as a purely academic issue the behavior on display in Charlottesville does not fall under protected speech or the right to assembly, having violated basic universal qualifiers for both.

Today ITT I learned that the american moderate is the worst type of coward. Your country is literally on the brink of a race war and your response is to worry about how you can remain seated on your high horse the longest.

This is as true then as it is now.

You're right they can legit put up flyers and advertise their shit out in the open.

More that they aren't organized in the same ways, and that they aren't really a military organization. They're absolutely scum and a huge threat to this country, and in a very real sense they are terrorists. That doesn't mean they operate in the same way.

I mean I agree with this honestly

When I look at some of the stuff going on in Europe where people are getting jail and fines for tweets, I cannot support that.

I think anyone who has seen me post on here knows I'm as liberal as they come, but I cannot support anything that makes hate speech a crime or illegal because I refuse to go down the slippery slope.

Long as racists can be racist right?

Don't worry..they'll just die out..😏
I'm sad that I used to really believe that. I honestly wanted to believe it was generational and given time and slow progress that it would go away or at the very least be diminished. It hurts to know that it isn't, I don't know how to move forward knowing it isn't ever going to get better.

Yup. They're fucking weaponizing the biggest and most dangerous idiots to ever exist ever: young, inexperienced, angry white dudes

All they wanna do is sit on their hands and say we should build bridges and talk about this. While the scourge of the underbelly of America are crawling up to finally reveal themselves and raise hell. It's really just sad at this point.

This shit and its permutations have been ingrained in our society for too long.
My parents grew up in Alabama in the 50s and 60s, and I as their child feel like I will die in an America that will continue to struggle with the specter unrepentant racism. This is just my own defeatist attitude that I need to try to break free of, but days like today keep it chained to my leg.

Btw for many people here in Sweden being called a liberal is more or less an insult thanks to ideas like yours.

remember how we fucked up reconstruction and let a lot of traitors who started a war to keep black people as slaves get federal government positions and statues instead of hanging them and now we have neo-nazis protesting and killing people over removing the statues of those fucks

Should have hung them all.

"Now let's all just sit down and talk about how maybe white people are never wrong"

Given who was on the front line, we should never hear any more crap about how leftists are a malign influence on American politics who should shut up and go away forever ever again.

I know there are some really stupid people saying really awful things today but I think we should ignore them and not get drawn in, this is about something much bigger than them. Let's make it about the victims and the families, and how to fight back.

The 1st Amendment itself needs to be amended so that there can never be any use of the 1st Amendment to contradict the Constitutional tenet that all people are created equal.

That would ban protests for racism, bigotry and sexism outright.

You can't allow a blanket law to exist that permits the contradiction of the foundation of the country.

Plain and simple: Nazis should not be allowed to protest in favor of undermining the Constitution. It should be a criminal act of treason.

I have no desire to build bridges with nazis. If I honestly thought there was a good way of ensuring hate speech laws could absolutely never be used to oppress people's rights I'd be all for them. I'm just not convinced there is

What is the slippery slope when it comes to classifying Nazis as a terrorist organization and Nazi language as fighting words?

A more inclusive and safe society?

Interracial bi-couples with adopted children?
