I keep looking at Fox News sources to see what the "other side" is hearing and it's not too far off from the "but both sides!" narrative bullshit Trump pulled.

It's not hard to see why people believe this shit when their only news source reinforces it.

I'm not even talking about the hardcore racists, these are people who probably don't even think they are racist but still watch Fox.

I wonder why so many republican voices are decrying white supremacists today. Was it the murder, or the threat of Trump's poll numbers?

These "strong statements" mean jack shit if history is anything to go by. After the tapes of Trump admitting to sexual assault, MANY Republicans had "strong statements" against his actions. After about a bajillion different racist things he has done to minorities/immigrants, MANY "strong statements" from R's. After he went after the Khan family, MANY "strong statements." After he ripped McCain, Sessions, McConnell, MANY more "strong statements." You can add a myriad of other things Trump has done and Republicans have condemned his actions.

But these Republican statements mean absolute shit as long as they are going to vote and support his absolutely insane agenda which is where it actually matters. And so far, their support has been basically unwavering.

The turn started about two weeks ago.

They are beginning to look to saving their own skin next year.

And that's good, because the less they do to help him now, the better.

Yep, people have said that the GOP won't do anything about Trump until their party was looking worse off with him than without him.

That's already starting to happen. They're worried about the midterms.

As shit as GOP is, it's good news for everyone. Because it means that they'll impeach him if it comes to that.

They give people who voted for Trump cover to stop supporting him. We need these kind of statements.

Its also crazy to see this all from a global perspective. Once people and nations saw the US as a beacon of hope. The country that helped to Europe to beat the Nazis, the country with the American dream for local people as well as overseas people. And now, everytime you watch the news, there is disaster on display. Social, cultural and political.Of course, many Americans still fight for a better world out there, but its not them who make the headlines.

And China, despite lacking BIG TIME in terms of human rights, is looking better than ever. Maybe not in the eyes of Europeans or Americans, but the rest of the world surely appreciates China a little more now. And I guess European countries such as France and Europa come out pretty strong these days, fighting of terror attacks and other stuff.

As a Germany, there was a lot of anti-Bush sentiment, a lot of Anti-USA-politics sentiment as well, but now its like, man, we are like: there are no words for this mess anymore.

I for one, would like to see a strong America back again. With a strong message for democracy, freedom etc. One could say, well, we just need to wait 3,5 y. But considering what happened in the first six months, that could be very very rought 3,5y. With a global order that could change big time, if countries like China or Germany, fill up the vacuum.

Actions speak louder than words. They see these hollow statements/threats and never take action and thus are implicit in enabling this shitholery. Gotta put your money where your mouth is one of these days, and it's been years of what I see as faux-outrage from the Conservatives that have basically lost any meaning to me as they are still going to support his agenda.

omg. is this intentional? i'm gonna scream if the new nazis modeled their uniform on their god-emporer. fuck.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say probably not. White shirt, black belt, khakis, that's basically your average Mormon or office worker. Let's not get ourselves too worked up about something as minuscule as this. There are bigger fish to fry.

He's started losing GOP voters support in recent opinion polls. This will only keep that going. Still needs to go a loooooong way, but if the country is going to turn around, there has to be a enough cover for people who voted Trump to vote differently going forwards. That may be depressing, but it's true. It's got to happen, and I think it is.

My only hope is that outside of the Mueller investigation, voters overwhelmingly vote Trump out in the next election to a Democrat and turn the tides. We have seen over the past 6+ months what this monster has done to the USA.

Just when I think Trump can't possible get any lower, he doesn't denounce white supremacists for an obvious domestic terror attack.

If this guy wins again in 2020 after all this I'm going to lose all faith in this country...

I see a couple others have made statements. not sure if already posted:

My question to Cory Gardner and Marco Rubio is: If the president, in the coming days, still refuses to acknowledge white supremacist / nazi terrorism, what are you prepared to do about it?

Are you just going to tweet your displeasure and then move on, or are you going to accept that your president is inept, incompetent, beholden to white supremcists, and completely lacking any moral authority to lead this country?

Just being disappointed in the president ultimately doesn’t amount to jack shit. We know Republicans are cowards and they’ll let this slide and hope it fades from the news cycle, so don’t worry, we don’t expect any acts of political courage from you.

I mean, I hope so. But as long as these Republicans that are "strongly" condemning his words/actions continue to vote en masse for things that restrict voting rights, immigration reform, etc. and do nothing to get in the way of his absolutely terrifying agenda, their words are hollow. There's zero bite to their criticism and when the time comes, they'll vote for whatever shit sandwich Trump puts out there. Party over country.

They are simply a bunch of neutered husks of people playing politics and "scoring" easy political points, and honestly, being outraged about literal Nazi's in 2017 might just be the easiest to score. Giving goons like Cruz "credit" for not SUPPORTING domestic terrorism and White Nationalists, is just kind of pathetic. Yeah, he's a disaster of a human being, but clearing such a minuscule bar shouldn't be worthy of him receiving an iota of praise.

It's more like she doesn't like to think the world can be so black and white, and she doesn't like her opinion challenged. She instantly flipped on this statement later.

Good on you. She needed to be challenged. I do the same when I hear questionable things coming out of my mom's mouth. I love her, but what is wrong is wrong.

I was thinking about giving them props, but Trump's the GOP politician in the highest office of the country and he won't condemn and fight white supremacy. When your top dog can't do that, all those words from the lower ranking ones don't mean shit.

It's already too late.

I mean, they're leaving the door open to pat him on the head if he indeed does specifically condemn white supremacists without qualifiers. Which, fuck that. The guy should have done it. He refused to. The press threw the questions at him and he just bounced.

The message has been sent.

I do appreciate seeing the GOP criticize Trump but I don't like how they're giving themselves an excuse to still support him if they twist his arm enough to do what he should have already done, and what he can never make right.

That’s also true. Denouncing neo nazi violence and murder is a pretty basic thing any decent person should do without hesitation, and multiple times today Trump and his White House communications team took deliberate steps to avoid doing just that. This wasn’t a gaffe or a mental slip up, this was specific.

So even if Trump does eventually bow to pressure and say “nazis, cut it out you bozos” by this point it would completely hollow. The window has closed.

Do not trust any republicans who try to make an outreach, their policies over the last century have created this disgusting situation you see today, they hide behind their veneer of civility when they know fully well about how are the ones truly at fault for it getting this bad.

Trump just emboldened an already racist and horrific base that became so over the period of generations of republican propagandising.

If anything, the republicans who make an outreach are only useful to get trump impeached, after that, throw all of them to the wayside.

In light of this terrible tragedy, I am hopeful that this has shined a giant spotlight on an issue many were refusing to believe (white supremacy terrorism) and exposed Trump's weaknesses/ lack of any type of leadership skills even further.

Trump deserves nothing less than the first act of terrorism on U.S. soil during his presidency being a domestic act by a Neo-Nazi. Karma's a bitch, you racist piece of crap.
