DOTA 2 The International 2017 (Aug 7-12) Game of throwns - you win or you pld

Haha, that's pretty great.

I have no idea if he was actually good or not, just figured he was bad because he's always been a bad hero and IceFrog seems unable to balance him without making him ridiculous and then instantly nuking him a month later.

He was shit all tourney. but Miracle made him work mid once with a lot of good play around him. I don't think he's good. But he can be made to work in the right situation. Kinda like PL and most illusion heroes this patch.

dunno about all that, but they made him work once. he was pretty shit all tourney. a random win (that really was a team win rather than an out of control TB) doesn't really change that.

Doesnt matter that "random win" led them to the finals, so TB redeemed. Even if there are better options, bad heros just dont get picked simple; Like riki lol

Can someone tell me what liquid earned today in fantasy points? I was supposed to use the entire roster this morning but forgot to log in before coming so got zero points today.

Had 2600 points before so it's going to really suck when I miss 10% because of that. :/

Tb is very much an 'ok' hero. PL is just there to burn Mana, pl needs an absurd amount of items to be any sort of carry and he farms way to slow for him to get to that point. Still one of my fav hereos.

Yeah, Kotl, wisp bans every game, first pick ESs to deny him a third hero, teamfights/games that were reversed off the back of his expert echo slams, finishes accelerated and made off the back of his aghs kotl pushes- GH has so much impact.

Gh was autoban every game

I've been rewatching some of their earlier games and while Miracle is great it's the rest of the team (especially the supports who constantly ward and deward everywhere) that allow him to farm up and provide setups for his late game and kills.

GH on the shaker, Kuro on the Lich, Matumba on the Necro and MC on the offlaner chars...

Super happy for Kuro. Met him at TI4 and he was such a genuinely nice dude. Must feel amazing to finally reach the holy grail. And on the topic of TI4, having been there live there's no way this GF was even close to as bad as that year. At least the games were still entertaining, which is more than I can say for any of the four GF games at TI4.

Pretty boring finals. a best of 5 with LFY and Liquid would have been so awesome.

Great for Liquid and Kuro tho! Been a fan since Navi TI3 and his Secret days. Happy he could get it.

I'm pretty happy for Liquid at this point. They've been on the cusp of being a great team for a long time and this definitely cements them as top tier. They've come a long way and should be proud of that fact.

congrats to liquid, but god the whole sequence after the games is the pinnacle of cringe...they need to stop treating those nerds like rockstars

Congrats Liquid. I had to go to sleep at around 2 am so I didnt see final match of the finals until now. A true stomp. Liquid really is the best team in the world, and such a deserving winner.

It is cringy like all hell, but no, they ARE rockstars. If 4.7 million people watch you win a grand prize of over 10 million dollars, that is as big as anything really. But the fact that they can't handle being in the spotlight or even celebrating is another matter, but that's just how these guys are.

i dont understand why there is nobody from valve/host standing next to the aegis, before the team walk out of the booth, to hand them the aegis properly. players just walking to the aegis is very anticlimactic and awkward.

I dunno, I thought it was kind of neat. It was more awkward this year, but last year when Wings won they ran up and grabbed it in a moment of victory.

Well they did just win ten million dollars in a competitive game against 16 teams from around the world...I think treating them like rockstars is fair.

that wasn't my point. I don't want to downplay what they did. But by making them feel uncomfortable they won't be able to celebrate.
While I don't think Day9 meant any harm, he clearly made fun of them. The whole narrative of the celebration was: look at these nerds, they are multimillionaires but can't even open a champagne bottle or express their feelings in a coherent way.
There's gotta be a better way to do it. Let them have the trophy, give them some time to cool down and then invite them to the panel to talk about what they are passionate about (the game).

Rebroadcast of Liquid vs LFY is on youtube.

Goddamn Liquid was so close in losing there. If they got wiped with no buyback even with megas, they would have lost.

Sure LFY gave them much better fight, but Newbee beat LFY in the first place.

I think mindcontrol going for megas was the play of the tournament. After all the prevoius deaths trying it, going for it while there was a team fight and succeeding... Takes balls

Yea, the whole post-game ceremony needs some serious thought from Valve.

I'm surprised we didn't see specter at all, was the ult nerf such a hard blow to the hero that it blew her out of the meta?

She already had problems with coming online in a decent time and now shes been consistently nerfed the past several patches. 3 minutes is wayyy too long for that ult. Her talents are pree garbo too

congrats to liquid, it's pretty impossible to argue that they weren't totally dominating in the finals. banning out against a team with such a large number of heroes that they excel at playing was also a nightmare.

newbee looked very lacklustre and g2 in particular was completely baffling play on their behalf. they had a huge advantage coming out of laning and squandered it by retreating to their half of the map to farm when they were playing against an alchemist.

Production of the tournament felt cheaper than before and the arena didn't look sold out or even close. Finals were shit too.

Arena was super packed, took us 40 minutes to get in the arena. Ended up in the suites next to the casters and Newbee for finals day. Was hard to see newbee come out of the elevator after GF. Was a blast though.

Afterparty was fun, a lot of very drunk players. Got a ton of signatures and pictures. Got 3/5 team liquid (no miracle no matumbaman). Kky hates pictures lol. RTZ is nice, but Crit looked heartbroken and Sumail was salty. (Don't blame him). Sheever, ODPixel, and me spent 15-20 minutes talking (I'm also a cancer survivor so far) about some of the things I went through and things I learned that might help them. Also, we heard a ton of stuff about team shuffles coming up, lot of it was planned prior to TI but was contingent on how good or bad teams did.

Sounds really awesome.

When can I cash in on the fantasy money? I'm close to level 150. Excited for the map.

If I understand correctly, yesterday was the last day to unlock the map... 😬

It's total garbage, I never had a chance of getting it without paying like $60. I miss when the Compendium just got you the terrain and effects just right out of the gate. Valve have lost their minds with this gambling and grinding shit.

It's designed for people who play a lot, doesn't seem that unreasonable.

Where it starts feeling "fuck you pay money for good stuff" is the fact that a huge number of unlocks (chat wheel, fountain effects, etc.) only last for the duration of the Battle Pass. Why would I pay more when half the stuff won't last?

Every time they did a segment, it was to fill time between matches or a crowd pan during the draft. Lots of people in the bathroom or concession stands at that time. It was packed and loud as hell. Very hype although China was deflated after the first game.

If there is a Dota 2 discord I can join it and tell you the couple of things my friend overheard (she's cute, a dota 2 player, and has no wedding ring, so we could get into any conversation lol)

yea theres a gaf discord ill send you the invite if you want

Everyone's loving Mircale-, mind_ctrl, GH and Kky while Matumbawoman is sitting in a corner crying. I'm totally with Suma1l on that one, Matu is a heck of a player, very versatile and delivers every game.
