Then you need to work on your spacing. Alternatively, if you're having trouble utilizing the Dualie Squelchers' range, you could switch to a shorter range gun that deals more damage.
I've been trying other weapons as I unlock them but haven't yet found one that I really like for ranked outside of the aerospray for turf war.

You gotta back away. Any time you are fighting someone you know you out range, you should be walking backwards as you shoot them.
And majority of the time that's not really an option because of enemy ink

Edit: my biggest issue by far, though, is that my aim is atrocious

Oh. That's problem number 1 lol, gives your opponent more time to close in then they should have. It's not the brush's fault if you can't hit him.

Try not to get into engagements unless you can back away into your own ink, as you inking your entry point its just as important to be mindful that you are inking your exit as well.

Working on your aim will help of course too. Might be good to use the guns with higher rate of fire which compensate for your aim. Then as you get better and better can progress to the slower more precise guns.

As a veteran of Splatoon 1 the drop out rates in this game seem really bad. Like, it's rare to have a full roster by the end of a match. Maybe because people are trying to use crappy mobile/hotel connections?

Pick your weapon based on the maps, and the mode, not just the mode.

At least that's what I do. I use jet squelcher or other long range terrible-at-painting guns when I play ranked, on maps that favour long range weapons like the highrise map. Part of it is also because those killy weapons aren't too great when I play turf war, which is the main mode I play.

As for your spacing issue, if every single time you run into a brusher(or other close range weapons), you aren't able to back away because of enemy ink, then perhaps you are running too far ahead, try moving at the same rate as your team.

I always try to keep an eye on where my teammates are, swimming back to them if I know I'm in the combat area alone: It's better to stay alive and move as a team then to stand my ground and die, paint the ground for the opponents and increase your respawn timer.

This is some really solid advice. Next time I play I'm definitely gonna try and take some of that and put it into practice

How to win humpback pump track: 1. Pick a long range weapon 2. go to the ramp leading to your spawn 3. kill every aerospray, bucket, and duallie attempting to enter your spawn.

It is tremendously good advice.

However I live that Roller life. It's the only weapon I love. I've tried all of the rest. Hell I even consider the Carbon roller to be blasphemous, let alone these new fangled flingers.

Sometimes I seem to land a good thwack with the Splat Roller, and it doesn't even faze the person I hit.

I like to use curling bombs to get paths out, flank people on objective modes, but landing a death blow is tough half the time, because my hits either fail to register, or do glancing baby damage.

Yep, rollers in general in a nutshell. Their one-hit kill ranges are very specific, and simultaneously very (seemingly) inconsistent. I'm imagining some netcode/tickrate shenanigans are playing a role here, with enemies that are not technically where they appear to be anymore or whatnot.

But damn if landing a kill shot with the Flinga's vertical greatsword swing isn't satisfying as hell when it happens. Feels like I'm playing Monster Hunter again and busting out a switch axe.

If only its horizontal flick could be counted on, like, ever. :(

I think I've had maybe 2 matches without a full roster and I've played dozens of matches in this game.

2 people on the opposing team... Abby lvl 41 and Nicholas whose lvl 27 just trolled their OWN team. I saw them just aiming nowhere at their spawn point...

Just checked... Nope. I use my real name on Nintendo online. Lol Mediking is for almost everything else though.

Phew good! Leveling up my Shoes.
Okay, just to clear up any misunderstanding, when I say Main ability, I mean it isn't one of the slots you can level. Stealth Jump is unique to certain shoes. ^^;

In Salmon Run, when's consider a good opportunity for carrying an egg back to the basket?

I usually only go back to the basket when a coast is almost clear of salmons, or when it's under 30 seconds to go and we are still down a few eggs. I thought I was doing alright with this strategy, and then I fought with a teammate who carried the team hard with 25 golden eggs and 1000+ in points. Then I started to wonder is there a more optimized way to approach this, or was the guy just too good.

Man, Autobombs are soooooooo much fun. Walked up the enemy's ramp on Sturgeon and threw an Autobomb to the higher level above. But then a Jet Squelcher came down and killed me. And then as I watched my death animation, the Jet Squelcher turned to paint their lower court from the top of his ramp and the Autobomb crept down from the upper level behind him and killed him. Almost like I was watching a cartoon. Lots of dumb kills with these. I kinda wish I could see a playback of the random deaths, just to see where they crept to and how it happened.

What do you guys like on Octobrush? Thinking mostly Swim Speed and some Ink Resistance.

Seems like a lot of bad Charger players at A rank. I know I'm bad at them too, but it's tough when you have one on your team that manages 1-2 kills in a match that goes the distance.

Sorry to be bearer of bad news there.

Other unique abilities are... Off the top of my head, Ninja Squid, Thermal Ink, Object Shredder, Drop Roller...

If you can't get Ability Chunks for it from Murch (just click "Apply Ability" to see what all has Chunks) it's a Unique ability.

So Rainmaker is just a Tri-Slosher fest. Not really fair... which we could have different loadouts for different modes that we switch to instantly.

UUHHHH SO

Some guy got into the Sturgeon Shipyard level geometry and no one could grab the rainmaker???

How did they do this?

They totally threw for their team since we ended up winning because no one could get it at all

If that person was super high level then they are trolling.

Too busy crying. Cant read.

So I don't know the algorithms this game uses to make teams on a competitive lobby but putting us 3 same guys 4 games on a row and losing 4 times on a row too seems weird. Tried to get out and enter another game and ended with the same lobby room and guess what? Ended with the same 2 people teaming up, and what's more? We lost again. WTF game, get the message we don't have synergy with our play styles.

Ink resistance is a bit redundant since you can ink a path through enemy ink with brushes. Try replacing that with Ink saver(main), or Ink saver(sub) if you use bombs often. In either case, those abilities would save you just enough ink to make a quick escape in a tough situation.

I feel similarly about swim speed on brushes. Run speed is a much better complimentary gear, as it makes your speedy brush even faster!

I thought run speed does not affect rollers and brushes?

I don't think I'll ever hit Superfresh with anything.

Neither will I ever again if game has anything to say about it! 14.5, spawned me into a 3v4. Gaaaaaaah.

I kind of want to Superfresh every weapon just to say I did, but there are some I'd never be able to do so with. Like Chargers.

OH OKAY and now I lose by 0.1. I almost had this twice already, why does it keep prying it away? Holy *.

One, two, three, ahahaha, count them, THREE three versus fours!
Get off of the McDonalds Wifi, guys...

Wow, ranked battles are a whole different kettle of fish, huh?

Played my first tower and splatzone modes. Whereas you can get away with being clever and finding 'blue ocean' in Turf War, in ranked you absolutely need to know the map and where the best points are, you need to have an appropriate weapon for the mode and you need to be able to win 1 vs 1 duels.

It's the last part I struggle at but I still won 66% of my matches to start with so I was happy.

As for Salmon Run, I finally encountered a griller round and a mothership round yesterday. The grillers were easy, no idea what the fuss is. I had the splatling gun and just went to town on them whenever they turned their backs to chase someone else. The mothership, on the other hand, we lost badly. How do you get eggs in that mode? I didn't even see any boss salmonids. And when the mothership attacks, what do you do? I had a roller and saw no way to attack it...

My only issue with the game is that I'm so into online I'm not sure I'll ever beat the single player. Such a difference from the first where I only played single player and got to level 4 online to try it out.

Seriously, I didn't want to get off until I got to Superfresh, but if it keeps screwing me over I'm going to just have to deal with this tomorrow. Lest the game keeps me up until 5AM or something.

Wish 3v4's only took half of a point away instead of one and a half.

Griller rounds are defined by the person targeted by the griller, if they're smart and don't panic they can be easy. If not...that's a wrap.

To get eggs on the mothership round you need to shoot down the boxes getting airdropped in. Considering you had a roller, it would be tough for you to do that unless they were close. Boxes that get shot in the air drop eggs.

As far as the mothership goes, use your super on it. Or just wait for it to get on the egg basket and hit it then.

Turf War partner AFK'd for about thirty seconds in the final minute. To... Send me a friend request.

Yeah the world hates me right now, clearly.

And no, I'm not accepting your Friend Request after that. What are you thinking?
