Eh at some point it's more about upgrading the weapons to avoid repetition in the combat and for the weapon stories + sidequest thing.

The enemies just generally don't demand weapon switching as long as you have something upgraded as high as you can.

Spears play better with 9S.

Pretty much.

I actually like fishing while zoning out to watch documentaries or podcasts. I love getting the blowfish for some reason. Trying to get 100% fishing archive is quite cathartic.

I'm 5 fishes away from 100%. Not sure if I'll ever get them though.
EDIT: Now I'm only missing Sword Fish (normal and machine) and Beetle fish. I know the first two are in the Missile area, the other one in the Oasis. If anyone has any tips, please let me know.

This last enemy is killing me. 20 reloads and I still can't get the enhanced multi thorn to show up. Finally finished the secret boss and have all quests but now I've got 99% staring at me on that unit data.

I've been avoiding the fishing and archives...

75% archives
58% Fish

gonna be a while.

The one in the
Flooded City
? It took a while for me too, but I got it by the end. I found it pretty hard to distinguish them also, so I had to just kill them and hope.
Down to two fishes. Swordfish Machine and Beetle Fish.

Three hours in and this game is messing with me.

I had no problem
smashing the robots in the desert, but wanted no part of it by the time I got to the carnival. I just strolled passed them and
ended up getting whooped by the boss. Should I be smashing this things for XP or leaving them be? Kind of an internal dilemma that I'm enjoying at the moment.

General impressions:
+ The music is sublime. It gives off classic old school JRPG vibes with just the right amount of modern voices, etc.
+ I'm being drawn into the world. I'm curious about the androids and what their deal is.
+ Yoko Taro's idiosyncratic touches keep things fresh

- Combat feels button mashy and not satisfying, but I suppose it is doing the job
- Combat encounters are mostly dull
- Overworld map already feels like a chore to pass through. I know everyone is beyond sick of everything being compared to BotW, but I naturally can't help it and found the open world of BotW to be more rewarding in basically every way. More alive, more beautiful, more gameplay opportunities, etc.
- The best part of the game in terms of level design and gameplay is still the segment from the demo. I'm hoping for more like that and less wide open areas with groups of robots to smash. The desert level was dull.

So yeah. Mixed feelings so far, but I'm really looking forward to playing some more tonight.

Well, that sucked.

Game crashed and had to reboot. Problem was that I was at
the very end of the part in route B where you first have to fight the big water whale and then do some hacking during the Adam fight and when you need to reboot yourself.
. That whole part doesn't have a single save point so I had to redo all of it. I guess not having auto saves had an idea behind it, but in cases like this it is horrible. The game should have had a save option during that whole segment, an half hour long segment with no way to save is just bad design imo.

I ended up putting the game on easy and using the auto chips to make the game play itself while i made a sandwich and watched a video, but it still sucked.

Was really psyched for this, but....

The PC port is horrendous, truly. Spent about 30 minutes just trying to get things to display correctly and suffering numerous crashes. Wanted letterboxed 1080p on my 1920x1200 screen so there was no UI stretch - absolute fucking pain in the ass. Finally got it through some combination of FAR and in-game settings, but it took several crashes, odd mouse / screen misalignments, and I really have no idea how it wound up working.

Then I start the game and pick hard. Get varying amounts of progress over the course of an hour and half before I realize how goddamn long and hard the intro is on my chosen difficulty so I lower it to normal.

Get to the boss on normal, still manage to die by getting trapped under it's spinning horizontal attack, unable to move. Do the whole intro YET another time, finally beat the boss. 2B and 9S touch black boxes and - gasp - the fucking game crashes to desktop, no warning or anything. I'm back to playing the intro again.

Just uninstalled and refunded. Really want to actually play this but man what a shit show. I can not justify spending time or money on the game based on this experience. Usually am pretty fair and conservative with refunds and port annoyances, but I've never seen anything like this.

Is the dlc worth it?

A little background, i loved the game, but after 4 playtroughs and doing almost every quest, im a little burned out already, does the dlc do anything really new and interesting? Or should i go buy sonic mania and come back after i finished it?

It's three arenas with a bunch of pretty hard challenges and a really cool little something at the end.

Wouldn't say it's worth it at 15€ if you already feel burned out, but then again your other option is Sonic

DLC is mostly for novelty.

The OST is really lovely, especially the concert disc that came with the blackbox.

Well, you just came here to vent since you already refunded it, but I'll ask anyway: are your AMD/Nvidia drivers up to date? They released a patch to address the crashing.

They are, yes. I'm not sure what caused the crash but at this point I'll probably get a PS4 copy when it goes down in price. I still really want to play the game!

I ended up buying the dlc, just one question, i can only finish the dlc in one stand? I choose 9s, will i have to do the three arenas with him to finish the dlc or can i do one with him, go back to chapter selection and do another with another character? Or does the dlc starts over again if i do that? Sorry for the confusion.

Just about to start this up for the first time. Never played its predecessor and I've never played a Platinum game I actually enjoyed, so I feel like I'm taking something of a leap of faith here, but Yoko Taro's signature brand of weirdness appeals to me, so fingers crossed.

You can change whenever you want as long as you make sure to save. I think the arenas were even tied to the characters. One certainly is.

Finished Route A. Is Route B essentially just replaying the game from a different perspective? That's not really an incentive in my book...

There are some changes in obvious places (Think of where 9S is at times throughout Route A), but yea, you do replay a lot of it from 9S' perspective. It's easy to speed through though due to you being familiar with the bosses, not to mention hacking/spear throwing is OP.

Yes, tho some parts differ a lot and there are new gameplay systems.

However it is not optional if you want to see the story and route c is entirely new stuff.

To add to what the others have said, you can go through it really quickly by just doing the main quests. The hacking, while a bit repetitive, is very strong.

I'll stick with it, if Route C is completely different. I'm under the impression what's really going on with Yorha is revealed due Route B and C, correct? Because the ending for Route A is incredibly underwhelming due to the intrigue they build up.

Yup, just keep playing.

Finished Route B yesterday and immediately started Route C.
I was not expecting it to be completely new content! I assumed I'd be playing whatever it is A2 was up to during the story (which is something I'd really like to do, play as A2) but this is awesome! I had to save and quit shortly after all the androids around me got infected and turned on me.

As for Route B's ending,
I watched a story recap/evaluation of the first Nier on youtube before starting this game. And the entire time I had assumed the Council of Humanity was fake. But I honestly expected the twist to be that the Gestalts had created the machines to inhabit them since Nier screwed up their chances of inhabiting the replicants. And I figured the replicants created the androids to destroy the machines. I especially thought I was on the right path when I learned that machines kept imitating humanity despite their failures. Not sure how Adam and Eve or the machines being networked would fit into that though, I thought maybe something went wrong down the line.

Also, I knew I saw some flashes of a hologram of a girl at several points in the game. It was so quick I thought I was seeing things the first time but now I'm really curious. They don't look like Devola and Popola though, whom I was excited to see near the end of Route A (I didn't see them during Route B).

Finally finished routes A-C. What a game. It took me a pretty long time to have the game really "click" with me, but man, when it did. I don't even know where to begin - the combat, the characters, the story, the voice acting...all exemplary.

I did break down and just buy the remainder of the trophies I was missing, like a chump. But after playing this game for like a month straight I was ready to be done with it.

Sounds like you haven't gotten D and E yet? DOn't worry, those won't take you oong to get if you use chapter select

Finished Route CDE tonight, so I'm done. But man the Soul Box really soured my experience coming through the finish line in the final hours.

That and me not understanding you're supposed to fail the minigame in the credits of E....

I ended up finishing in a great state of distress with like how tense I got trying to deal with all of that
