Just to confirm... how worried should I be about you guys all being down on these Commander decks, with the Cat one in particular being the one I was interested in, despite seemingly getting the most dislike in here I think? Like, is it more of a "this isn't doing as crazy things as I'd like", or more of a "this is actively not a very good deck"? I was planning on using this as a cheap way of getting back into Magic and have a deck to play against friends without having to get into the arms race of constantly needing to upgrade and buy a ton of new cards and crap, which in past experiences has been the issue I run into with TCGs. And before the reveals the impression I seemed to get wherever I asked around were that these decks would be perfect for that. But now I'm getting kind of worried, what with how down on them everyone seems to be...

Oh, they are perfectly fine for casual play and a fantastic way to get into the game for cheap. We are down because we are a bunch of jaded people and the new cards aren't as powerful as previous years so don't worry about us.

This, more than anything else, really shows off how big the gap is between this thread's positions and the broader playerbase. The casual appeal for Cats is huge.
We'll see, the appeal for me iin cats s more as a novelty as I've been there and done that for other tribes when I was playing nothing but kitchentable magic for more than a decade.

I honest to Gods don't know anymore if LSV and Gaby dating is a meta joke or totally legit.

Its not a meta joke. Lots of people have confirmed they don't hide it when they go around GPs or whatever. It's just not a thing they actively make a part of the conversation.

It's actually a pretty smart way to go about it. They're not the type that have publicists or anything so why would they need to do anything about it? Just do whatever you want to do.

well, you're going to have to upgrade any of those pre-con EDH decks regardless, unless you're playing with a very casual group. Any of these decks get shut down easily by sweepers, which tend to be thrown around liberally. Since you're locked to one creature type, the dragon deck has vastly more room to improve than the cat deck, for example, which has far fewer options for powerful cards with relevant synergy

oh definitely, very welll handled by the both of them. Especially considering the both of them having gone through divorces.

I'm not saying anything about the actual quality of this particular prroduct, but the median response in this thread to every product and release tacks a decent way into the negative, I don't think it has much predictive value.

Alright, you fuckers actually made me go and check something. I hate that I did this, and hate that I was compelled to do this.

God damn who cares? Let them date! Good for them and everything for finding happiness, sincerely, but what does it matter that it comes up in here several times a month?

Pretty sure people mentioned it in this thread after PT Kaladesh.

It's like the Jon and Dany of the Multiverse.

They literally streamed together just yesterday. They both are people very public in this hobby of ours, it's only natural they'd become a topic every now and then.

There's really not that much creepy, apart from the sleuthing.

Seriously, stop with this LSV and Gaby shit. They're both divorced adults, what they do is their business and theirs alone.

Can we talk about who we ship from MagicGAF? I'm totally on the Ashodin/kirblar bandwagon.

You guys sure find weird things to get upset about.

Let's talk about whether I should run 2 or 3 Soul-Scar Mages in Ramunap Red and how many Abrades I should play in the main.

Tolarian Community College did a very informative review of the new commander decks, financial breakdown and all I would highly recommend it, easy to find on youtube.

I wish the cat deck had more actual cats, not weird people-cats. I think I counted 6 real cats, 1 card that make real cats... Could have missed some, but still.

The Internet and casual players definitely like cats, but I don't know if they have the same love of people with cat heads and cat tails.

Cat and Wizards were a terrible choice in hindsight. They are not interesting and don't have a cohesive identity so the decks ended up very lacklustre.

Which tribes would you rather have seen?

I agree that cats and wizards aren't that exciting to me.

Perhaps Angels and Zombies? Or Goblins and Slivers?

We've had this discussion before knowing all the details.

Werewolves deserve a chance in EDH.

Rats are very one dimensional.

Snakes need more support, particularly a sultai commander.

Dwarfes needed another RW push and no chance to mess up with vehicles in commander.

I really do not understand why they did dragons. Except wanting a guaranteed seller.

Our recurring discussions have become stale, we need to discuss whether combat damage should use the stack again.

Wait, he's actually divorced?!

Goblins, Zombies and Elves are obvious choices but maybe too overrepresented, and Angels probably too similar to dragons, so I'd probably chosen Elementals, Allies, Humans, Merfolk, Fairies, Spirits or Eldrazi over those.

We could ship Nissa and Chandra some more if that helps.

Nah. This ship is on the back burner for probably at least 6-7 months (if not potentially significantly long) since the next block doesn't seem like it will involve either of them and they've committed to less focus on the Gatewatch along with less "The whole team goes to Plane X". We will need new ships to keep us going in the meantime.

I could see Werewolves, that would be cool. I don't really see Rats, Snakes or Dwarves doing much as a tribal theme.

Snakes isn't going to ever work because lolNagas
Eh no there's much more to snakes than just Amonkhet and Tarkir. And Nagas with tribal synergies can work if they are powerful enough.

I'd play Hapatra in Sultai snake deck for instance.

All of them got tribal support in the past. Dwarfes also got the vehicles going for them.

It's really just production costs keeping this one down. Their stance so far is that supplemental products without a premium price can't support DFCs since the cost of printing them has to be amortized over the whole run, which is a real shame -- the absolute best option for making WWs a more viable Commander tribe would be a deck with 6-7 new printings designed for that purpose.
