Anno 1800 announced

After the fiasco of the last Anno and Champions of Anteria my hopes for this game are record low. Seems like Blue Byte is a shadow of former self...

I loved every installment of this series up until they went futuristic. There's something special about following your ships around as they trade good, and seeing your small city grow into a big trading hub.

Please make this good, there's not nearly enough strategy games these days.

But that's Fall 2018.

In gaming, announcements of "Winter" always meant the end of the calendar year. Am i the only one remembering this. Where does the confusion come from?

After the fiasco of the last Anno

I'll never get the disappointment in 2205 :(
After mostly "classical" gameplay in a historic (1404) and a futuristic (2070) setting, this was such a breath of fresh air not only for Anno but for economic building sims in general in a heavily polished game. Though i get it, that some elements are divisive (like working with global streams of goods instead of singular objects etc.)

1800 sounds magical though, with the evolution from spreading farms to the industrial revolution with some machines, worker unions, strikes etc. (see the gamestar.de preview).

I'm glad it's back to a historical setting. They've never topped 1404 for my taste, but here's hoping!

Because winter is December - March and very rarely used in this context. "Fall 2018", "Late 2018", "Holidays 2018", and "Q4 2018" are common, "Winter" is not.

See my post above: gamestar.de clearly states Q4 2018. Couldn't be any clearer.

Colour me interested, loved both Anno 1404 and 2070; I'm hoping Blue Byte builds on their strengths.

1800 built on the engine of 2205?

Hopefully they bring back the depth that 2070 had, that was the pinnacle of the series mechanics wise. 2205 was just too simplified in comparison.

Holy shit this is awesome!!!

Glad they went back in time, I could never really get into 2070 but I loved Anno 1404/Day of Discovery

In-engine shots and some minor gameplay with a german dude talking a lot. Do not understand anything he's saying but game is pretty as hell. Hopefully someone will have some footage soon with no voice-over.

Things I've noticed:
It's beautiful.
Trains.
Proletarian worker strikes!
Trains!
Specific cargo carriers depending on resource type?
Expedition boat returning with exotic animals.
Zoos, you get to choose what animals are exhibited, tied with sending out expeditions most likely.
New farm system seems to maybe be a bit kinder how you place them instead of "plots" that have to be annoyingly puzzled together (giant fields of wheat).
TRAINS!

He is telling that he was invited to a press event almost a month ago, played the pre-alpha for one hour and finally can talk about it. He is basicly saying it's gonna be more like a classical Anno game again. Production chains and you can watch goods being transported. Modular buildings like the Zoo. Apparently what's new is that the game isn't only focused to bring all your citizens to the highest class. Buildings need people from certain classes to do the job (worker, academics). Like you mentioned. There will be strikes, if a certain class is unhappy. And in generaly it's going back to be more classic with one map with trade and diplomacy with AI.
Well and he also talks about the new Anno Union as the community hub for fan feedback..

Well at least they are taking the criticisms of 2205 to heart, let's hope they deliver. I love this series to death and I'd hate to see it fade into obscurity.

I got Anno 1404 and 1602 in the latest GOG Pinata thingy so I had best see if I like them. Also if something says Winter 2018 - that means the end of the year. Not the start lol.

Am I wrong or did they not have steamships like that in 1800? Though maybe this spans the entire century?

I haven't played enough Anno to know lol. It looks neat though.

This is the first Anno release in quite awhile that I've actually been interested in. As long as it's better than the sci-fi junk from last time I guess I'm content, but I hope it'll be as good as 1404.

This spans the century I think, the title most likely means the "Eighteenhundreds". Blue Bytes has this little quirk when naming their ANNO games that the numbers always adds up to 9 if you put them together which has so far been true through all games.

That's pretty cool. The one I played the most was Dawn of Discovery but I'd be interested in playing their mainline games.

Played some ANNO 2205 again after a long time. I think I like this game a bit more than I did initially, at least there are some things I wish they could implement. Like a tracker of how much a resource you earn/consume per minute so that it will be a bit easier to plan the logistics. I do miss that management of resource bulks though so I want that back, just want something to help along the management and make it a bit easier to plan when and how much to transport around. Speaking of, do also miss in 2205 having to transport resources between islands, not as satisfying that everything is more or less shared across the entire map.

Dawn of Discovery was one of their mainline games. :p

It was ANNO 1404 but renamed for some reason when released in America.

Damn, why does this game have to be so far away? Looks great.

To be honest, I kinda hoped Blue Byte would go for a new Settlers in 2018 instead, because that year will be their 30 years anniversary, but 1800 looks good. I think after 2205 it was time to go back into a historical setting 1800 also looks quite interesting.

Just I wonder why they still go PC only with the series. I think Anno could be ported on consoles without too much fickeling around with the controls. Of course mouse and keyboard are the best way to play such a game, but I think pc building games are quite easier to do for consoles then pc rts.

The Wii game actually did a surprisingly good job of distilling down the essence of the Anno series, although it was quite simplified compared to the PC titles, and had the benefit of pointer controls.

With games like Tropico and Cities Skylines seemingly doing well on consoles, though, there shouldn't be any reason Anno can't do the same. I wouldn't complain about a Switch port with touch-screen controls either.

The issue with 2205 is that they made a decision (presumably pretty early on in development) to dial back the micromanagement, as the much larger scale and multiple biomes was supposed to add more to do at a macro scale. As it turned out, though, there just isn't that much challenge in managing resources between the different maps (unless you're using multiple maps per biome, but there's no real reason to do that), so there just ended up being a net loss of strategic challenge by the player.

I definitely enjoyed 2205, though, particularly working with the different biomes (I might actually grab the DLC and give it another run through before 1800 hits), but I'm glad they seem to be moving back to a smaller scale and a bit more micromanagement with the new title.

Very excited about this game, I already have the Pioneer's Edition on pre-order. The only other ANNO I played is 1404 and I really love that one. I hope this one will be amazing as well.

It's been a long time since I last played any strategy game.

I'll play this just for the looks, it's beautiful IMO. And hopefully the rest should also be good.

I haven’t really played strategy games for years, but I’ve been getting that itch lately. This looks great.

I have never played an Anno game before. What are they like? Sim City? Civilization?

It's more like SimCity but still vastly different. I think that Anno has a lot more depth to it. It's way more than just another city builder. You have to fulfill the needs of your citizens throughout the game. Once you meet all of those needs, your citizens get promoted to the next "class", which in turn unlocks new buildings/resources to fulfill the needs of the higher citizen class and so on. The endgame revolves around building a monument of your choice, at least in the past. I don't know if that is still the case. Anyway, it's a great series!

Open beta got me, along with like five of my friends. We all bought it yesterday and proceeded to play for like six straight hours. Loving it.

Seems like 1800 is relatively well received. Should be legitimate reactions and reviews as well, considering how the previous ones have all been mediocre scores.
