Yakuza Kiwami 2 announcement leaked

Thanks for the tips! Is it hard? I hope its not like Dark Souls.

No. I'd recommend playing on hard difficulty, for a reasonable level of challenge.

Difficulty is also left up to the player in a few other ways. You can over-level quite a bit, or fill your inventory with healing items if you need to.

Nah it's nothing to the level of Dark Souls. The game actually is easier than earlier games in the series. You can change the difficulty at any time (it won't even affect the platinum if you're going for that) so no worries there. I'd actually suggest starting the game at hard and changing as you see fit because a lot of people actually found the game TOO easy but everyone's different of course.

EDIT: lol as Aki-at said, you can equip the Charismatic Autobiography for that authentic Souls-esque experience :D

Nah they're relatively easy games but if you want to make it hard like Dark Souls equip Charismatic Autobiography :p

Thanks for the tips! I probably won't finish Watch Dogs at this point(come back to it later), I must start zero as soon as I get it!

I know gaf loves Yakuza to death but why ain't people raising their pitchforks over the "shameless milking" of the franchise at this point? the number of yakuza games being released recently is quite high and any other franchise would have been bashed to death if they had similar numbers. is it all about quality of the games? then would milking be excused if all games were good or do franchises still need a breather and why isn't Yakuza getting one? seems like an interesting discussion all things regarded.

I'm only speaking for myself here (obviously :p) but for me each new game is going back to a familiar world I know and love with these cool, crazy characters who I've come to love over the course of the series.

I smile like a maniac when I see Kiryu again after not playing a Yakuza game in ages and when I see other characters like Majima make an appearance. This alongside the generally well written, over the top stories and the always fun wacky substories mean the games are never boring and personally always keep me completely hooked and laughing like a mother fucker many many times.

Plus you have to remember, how many brawler single player action RPGs do we generally get ? Not very many that's for sure. I love the Yakuza games also because they are basically brawlers at heart with an RPG system on top. The Yakuza series is pretty unique and I can't think of another series like it.

I fucking love the Yakuza series.

Actually if your aiming for 100% in 0 its probably closer to 120 hours, not 90 ;)

Imagine the time required to get all platinums if they really publish a collection of 3, 4 and 5!

300 hours probably? 5 took me 140 hours to 100% a year or so ago when I finished it, 4 is easier to plat as long as they don't change the trophy requirements and I can't comment about 3, since it has less stuff to do, but its probably the hardest of the 3 to plat.

One last question I have, is the games cutscene heavy or more actiony?

Both!

There's a good mix, you might sit through 20 minutes of dialogue and then be thrown into a 20 minute stage beating up hundreds of yakuza. Obviously there's a lot of story in these games but there's plenty of gameplay to compensate.

Great. I hate games with little to no story.

One of the main things I've learned from Yakuza-GAF's shilling of Yakuza 0, is that we legitimately don't do a good enough job of conveying JUST HOW GOOD THE DIALOGUE AND STORY IS.

But to be fair, that's not our fault. It's much easier for us to sell the game with gifs and videos of insane combat and heat moves as that's more flashy and catches the eye. You can't sell a game based on a good story, unless the people are already interested to begin with.

But yes, the story, characters and dialogue is something that's been very good throughout the Yakuza series IMO. Yakuza 0 arguably the peak of it.

FYI Yakuza 3 had like as much in game cutscenes as MGS4 did. They've only gotten bigger haha.

Yakuza 0 and 6 both had endings that felt like they were 40+ minutes. Heck, 6's intro is pretty long with only one quick boss fight to break up the story. Then again, the long intro does a pretty good job in filling in the story from the end of 5 so you at least don't need to play through all of 5 before you start 6 (but it is well worth doing IF you have the time to do so).
You can't be Yakuza boss intro cutscenes though, some of the ones that go straight into the fight from the cutscene with dynamic camera angles panning around the characters... always manages to get me well hyped!

I play Yakuza ONLY for the stories. They are excellent. Even the sidequests are full of emotions.

Yakuza is not a game with little to no story.

1 game is like 4 seasons of crime drama. Very easy to get lost if you're playing with brakes.

Yakuza games are extremely wordy and have long cut-scenes. In between story bits there is plenty of action though.

You're in for a treat. Yakuza 0 was my first time digging into the series and I found the story captivating. Fully onboard for the rest of the series now

Thanks for all the thoughts. Looks like I'm in for a fun week. Lets hope they announce remasters of 3, 4 and 5 to go along with that remake of the 2nd game.

For Japan. Kiwami came out in Jan 2016, we didn't get it until August 2017. It's happening, but there's no guarantee it'll be soon for us.
I don't think I'm gonna' wait on not playing 6 just to wait on a 2 remake. If they can't get it out in the States before 6, I think I'll just take the plunge on getting the PS2 version.

Plus you get kickass HEAT moves.

The fights look really flashy and cinematic!

Basically you have your normal fighting/brawler moves and then you have special HEAT actions. So when the circumstances arise like you're holding a weapon or the enemy is near a wall you can go over to them and the 'Triangle' button appears. Press that and you get a flashy move :) It's awesome.

That's a heat move. Think of it as a hard hitting finisher. It's entirely cinematic, the combat is different. You should watch some gameplay videos on youtube to get an idea.

The finishers in this series are absolutely amazing.

Here's one from Ryu ga Gotoku: Ishin which never got localized for the West [and probably never will :( ]

While the main plots can be a drag in certain games, the writing, especially in side quests, is rock solid, aided by a fantastic translation. Yakuza 0 especially shined, so many fantastic puns and deliveries there.

Not a dynamic one but it has day/night depending on where you are in the story.

And to add to this, only a couple of games kinda got weather systems (but only in certain chapters) - Yakuza 1, 2 and 5 have snow, Yakuza 1, 2 and 4 have rain (4 had really nice rain effects) but that's about it I'm afraid.

To add to this. The Yakuza games, are often set during the month that each game releases.

1, 2 and 5 were all released in December if I recall. They feature some cool Christmas content too.

5 and 0 are also based in December. I think 6 is as well? Though I'm not 100% sure on this one.

And 6 doesn't spoil 2 then? Or is it better to wait?

I'd honestly wait it out, 2 is the best story in the series I feel and it's full of so many twists and turns.

Yakuza x Persona must happen

A massive Sega beat em up crossover must happen using the Yakuza base as an engine and you make a team of 4 Sega characters in a bunch of long battles.

A team of Kiryu, Joker, Segata Sanshiro and the Daytona car, the ultimate dream team.

Yeah, saw that earlier. Definitely be interested to see what else they've got up their sleeve :) Now do I need to sleep tomorrow, or just watch the event live... that is the question...

I doubt there will be a Y7 announcement tbh. See more chance of 3-5 coming to PS4 to make the most of the spike in interest.

At the moment, I'm more excited to have another reason to play through 3 and 4 again, than the idea of Yakuza 7 when I haven't played 6 yet.
