Yakuza Community Thread - FEEL THE HEAT!

Guys I think we need to make a thread that and get it sticked it to gaming side.

And the only contents of the thread are "START WITH YAKUZA ZERO"

I'm starting to lose count of the times I've told people to start with Yakuza 0.

Well it worked for a while when we had the 0 OT in the Gaming forum, once that disappeared to the dark ressesses of Community the questions started all over again!

Put about 40 hours into Yakuza 0 so far, the game is amazing. Sunshine Club minigame is addicting af. Guess I have to add the other 6 Yakuza games to my backlog now... yay.
XD

A bit disappointing to see so many of the completion points are tied to earning X from all the different gambling minigames though because I'd willing play this to 100% completion but fuck doing all that.

The gambling requirements are actually really, really low in this game. You can blast through each game in about 20 minutes to get the completion point. You just start the game, place a bet (as much as the game allows) and if you win you quit the mini game to receive the profit. Rinse and repeat. Works great for something like Roulette where you just spread your bets out (always place a bet on the 0,00,2 spot) and you'll get lucky sooner or later. Black Jack takes a little longer, as its worth winning a few times in a row to get your max bet up but its not too bad. You'll have some good hands and some bad hands, you'll get there eventually.

Mahjong though will probably take you longer since it requires you to do far more, and it can be confusing to beginners.

Didn't notice before, but it's interesting that Sam Mullen (producer in charge of localization at Atlus/Sega USA) was promoting the Yakuza stream. Companies usually ignore these and act like they don't know about it to avoid having fans bothering them about future localizations. He was also reading the survey thread.

Maybe it's nothing but I'd say this speaks positively of the series future in the west. Honestly I wasn't doubting we'll get Kiwami 2 at all, but this is still nice.

Nice, glad they got it fixed in time.

Trying to sell someone who speaks primarily in 8 or 16-bit Nostalgia on Yakuza. Is River City Ransom the best comparison I can make?

Yes a modernised River City Ransom or a 3D Streets of Rage with an overworld and story should do the trick, but the latter would probably resonate more with it being a SEGA game.

Trust no one. Eat steaks.
Kiwami arrived yesterday morning.

I've nearly finished it.

Jebus, must be short and not contain as much filler as the other titles on PS3 & PS4. I thought mine was shipping today but noticed I got an email on Thursday that it had shipped (steelbook) so probably be here Thursday or Saturday, not that I'm close to finishing Zero yet. Bloody Caberet Club distracting me! 😂

Either that or Streets of Rage.

"3D River City Ransom with lots of drama" is literally the way I described it back when I played the first game haha.

we absolutely used those comparisons in the series starter guide, which i should start bumping soon! but yeah, i think it's apt

+ Kiwami OT soon

ya'll are in for a treat, prince did the game justice and then some

Is Yakuza 5 the weirdest game in the series? I can't believe I went from hunting a bear to a pop idol simulator.

(and now a writer on the porn scene?)

Definitely.

The game's story, content and tone is all over the place... Sometimes for better, sometimes for worse.

Haruka is secretly the GOAT Yakuza protagonist though!

Many thanks Gacha-pin, I was hoping you'd confirm the details on this one as I'd gotten my brain tied up in knots trying to understand what was announced!
Glad that the story is going to start the same on both the Online and console game, as I was concerned they'd divide the story up between the PC/Mobile online game and half on the console (which in turn would make it harder to follow).
Thank you for that clarification, man. It's good to know that they have actually confirmed a console game as well.

As for FotNS game, I guess that's an interesting way to look at it. But I would've just preferred if they had done that, instead of trying to make a Yakuza game in that world with that ugly art style. But I realize that I've been pretty doom and gloom about that game, so I'll stop talking about it for now and just keep an eye on it to see where it goes.

Well, I was excluding VNs honestly, cause the story is like everything those games have.
No problem. I want to try Hokuto ga Gotoku more than K2. I wish HgG was for this year's title and K2 was for 2018. In this way, Yakuza English localization team can catch up the Japanese & Asisa version and K2 will be released simultaneously worldwide :)

I would imagine the series doesn't get much fan-art (lack of waifus) but has there been any art yet from the Japanese crowd for Ichiban?

SEGA has to start relying on other regions to turn a profit with these games and I think it shows now with their efforts. Japanese sales have declined from a million seller (Sidenote always annoys me when some people say Yakuza was never as big as Shenmue, first 2 games were massive in Japan) to 350k with Yakuza 6. I think long term we probably are going to start hitting parity with Japanese release schedules and a focus on trying to get more sales internationally.

Would help if you didn't alienate your Korean fans with a racist joke though.

So how do I progress with the story? I'm trying to find info on the real estate agency but there's no map marker or anything.

I also lost all my money to a giant guy which sucked.

I posted this in the OT, but haven't received a response. Can anyone that has played the (imported) Kiwami answer?

I might be the only one that cares about this, but I did some searching and found the following:

"So you can start EX Hard with your clear save data. When you do, all your items will be where you left them when you made the clear data save. The items, weapons, and armor in your inventory will stay in your inventory... and everything in your item box will stay in your item box. The weapons and armor you have equipped will stay equipped too.

All side missions reset, and so does the Completion List requirements for Komaki. EVERYTHING else is carried over... all the mini-games completion, coin locker completion (not sure if you can recollect these again or not), heat moves, food and drinks lists.... everything."

(From https://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/181171-yakuza-kiwami/73485993)

Can anyone confirm- one can do a full Ex-Hard playthrough starting with a clear save vs. "just" premium adventure mode? This seems different than Yakuza 0; what's the difference between a clear save start on new difficulty and premium adventure mode then... simply no story missions in the latter?

Since the Y6 OT(much like the game) is basically 'if you haven't played the earlier games, you shouldn't even be here', I was thinking of having small synopsis sections. Shame I can't make awesome animated gifs from the install screen like I did for 5 and 0 though, since there isn't one...

Your question confuses me slightly, so I'm not sure if I'm answering it correctly but...

Premium Adventure mode in all games = do all the side stuff (either with a new save or an existing clear game save) but you get none of the story. Only do this if your planning on going back to do some side stories etc. you've missed.

EX Hard mode/Premium New Game + = New story game on harder difficulty. If you use your save game from your previous playthrough when starting NG+ some stats/stuff will carry over though I forget exactly what stuff (that FAQ sounds accurate though).

Thanks! Yeah... the issue was that things did NOT carry over for NG+ in Yakuza 0, but it sounds like it is different for Kiwami. So it'll make the Legend (Ex Hard) playthrough a lot easier!

EX Hard mode got weird around about 0. The older games let you carry stuff over (like for 3 you could do a run to unlock the golden gun in one run, then do a hard mode run with it to make things much quicker/easier. Dead Souls definitely gave you that option for hard mode, but I don't think it did for EX Mode.
Ishin definitely lets you carry gear over as I've done an EX Hard mode with all my end game level weapons (it was glorious fun!) but I think 0 definitely changed things in that regard. I forget exactly, since I've still not finished my replay of 0 yet, getting closer to the end but I spent most of yesterday evening playing Poker and building up my fanbase against Club Moon!

Hi Yakuza GAF. Yakuza 0 was my first game in the series, and I am looking forward to playing Kiwami later today. Quick question for you - Is it recommended to play 3 before 4 and 5?

I want to play as much of the series as I can before Yakuza 6 hits the west in March. I plan on getting Yakuza 2 via Kiwami 2 whenever that is released in the west, and I have 4 and 5 for free via Playstation Plus. It looks like Yakuza 3 isn't available digitally, so if I am to play it, I will need to hunt around on eBay (or watch a Let's Play I guess).I am just wondering if I could play Yakuza 4 without 3, and then possibly go back to it in the future. I guess the same applies to Kiwami 2. I would be jumping from the first game in the series to potentially the fourth.

Thanks.

You could skip 3 as 4 has a recap video but I would still recommend finding 3 just because you get attached to some long running characters.
