How do the original games hold up? I've always been interested, but never played them.

They're both good but flawed, and for different reasons. They hold up well imo, if you like the genre and Suda's games.
Hopefully they'll be put on VC when it appears on switch...

The more I think about it, the more I think this game is a way for Suda 51 to get Travis in Smash Bros as the indie representative lol

That was a pretty nice interview at nindies @ night!
But it also shows how fast they expect to produce this game. They don't even have the indie collaborations down yet.

So this should shut the not full fledged sequel crowd up right?

I love the NMH series and Suda'a work, but Travis Strikes Again sounds like a celebration of indie games rather than a celebration of NMH, not interested.

Yeah, but maybe if this indies collection sell well (which i doubt) there is a chance for proper sequel..

Putting a bet down one of the titles will be Rocket League for some kind of driving level, what with all the motorcycle stuff in the first game.

Plus you could put Travis's bike in RL as a cross-promo.

So the boss would be what, a car? I can't really see it.

If you want to include a weird genre how about Thumper?

Literally just had the same thought - 3D action fighting in the Thumper universe with Travis and a Masafumi Takada remix of Thumper music would be DOPE

And yeah, I can see Rocket League having some kind of big car mech as a boss.

So this possibly has a Hotline Miami collaboration even though HM wasn't on a Nintendo system (right?) How come?
Is HM coming to Switch? Is NMH multiplat?

Hotline Miami and Shovel Knight worlds will both be in this along with 4 others, much like Kingdom Hearts. As for Hotline Miami not being on Switch, I'm sure it will be soon. Suda51 is making this happen so I guess it doesn't matter if the source material is on Switch but it would certainly be nice.

I'd find it really weird if they went along with that without seeing Hotline Miami released on Switch. Would have thought Nintendo would be uncomfortable with that too.

And before anyone mentions Cloud Strife, at least FF games were established on Nintendo systems already.

if you still have a wii plugged in and don't mind SD graphics or can roll with that kind of setup, they're fantastic games. don't know if i'd go out of my way to experience them again though

I think the reason it's indie games is because Suda himself has said he always has felt more like an independent game creator, and indeed he got started years ago by doing things differently which caught attention in games where he was assigned to odd roles, famously having his break for writing a surprisingly deep story for a wrestling game, then making niche cult hits like the Twilight Syndrome series and Silver Case, becoming far more known for bizarre games like Killer7 and No More Heroes... I think he lost some motivation which is why he hasn't directly directed anything since the original No More Heroes because he wasn't big on the bigger game development scene, he's always seemed more interested in being more free to create his own bizarre things rather than rise in the ranks and be assigned to bigger projects. However, if you listen to him talk about him and gaming in recent years almost all of his favorite games of the last several years have been indie game titles, and I think the reason why he's back to direct and No More Heroes in the form of it being in some ways a celebration of indie games is because he's been loving the indie game scene himself and found himself motivated to do something in that space. I'm guessing the reason for his return and the first thing he's doing is something No More Heroes related again is to show he's back, he's working on something he loves, and to give the whole indie scene he's been loving a chance to be part of a project of his I think he finds fun to direct.

It's just my theory, not directly said, but I think him not directing anything for 10 years, his expressed love of the indie game scene, the sorts of things he did direct when he was directing, and what No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again turned out to be are all very telling.

I'm just amazed at the idea of No More Heroes turning into its own pseudo, stylish, and more violent take of something a bit like Kingdom Hearts but for indie video games.

this sounds so awesome. I love that this guy is getting even more ambitious with no more heroes. gonna definitely have to buy a switch sooner or later now.

You have my interest, Suda.

I like the fact that the Death Drive is becoming a regular thing in Grasshopper games. I hope it looks like a Mega Drive Mk2 this time round.

As much as I love Shovel Knight, can we stop putting him in every indie game out there?

No, we can't. Deal with it.

yes but Can We All Agree that 'we' collectively have no say in the matter
this is pointless rabbling
unless of couse one of you gets into indie game development and pointedly makes the decision whether to include shovel knight or not
then i guess there might be a point

It's really good theory and I watched a couple of interviews with him and I can see that, yes he is a huge fan of indies so I know Travis Strikes Again will be made with love.

Would genuinely be a lot more interested in a conventional sequel, so I'll wait and see on this one. If Suda's making the games he wants to though, good on him.

Considering the history of the series, Fire Pro makes wayyyyy too much sense to be one of the levels.

So possibly:

- Hotline Miami
- Shovel Knight
- Fire Pro
- Danganronpa (a man can dream)

My only concern is that the game might be short.

In my imagination

This amounts to

No More Heroes, but your grinding minigames are good and inspired by great indie games, instead of being subpar facsimiles of retro games

If that's what it really is (and the boss battles and story are suitably good) it'll be the best entry in the series

Also, I don't get why people be hating on indie games in 2017. I mean, I can understand not being super enthusiastic about them because a bunch of them are dated shit that wouldn't have passed muster on the Super Nintendo, but there's genuinely good shit out there and Shovel Knight and Hotline Miami are two of the best, which makes me think Suda might have similarly high standards like I do.

No More Heroes was a satire of the gaming industry and gaming culture. Having Travis explore actual games, especially indie ones which are mentally aligned with Suda's directing tendencies, is as much of a celebration of NMH as you can get. When we got a fairly standard sequel that eschewed much of that satire in favor for its characters, most fans thought of it as not as sharp or interesting of a game.

We're not getting a "proper" NMH3. Travis' story is done, there's more to the franchise than "nerd fights wacky bosses".

Hotline Miami is made using Game Maker. That engine isn't compatible with Switch yet.

Since the original PS4 version the Hotline Miami games run on Abstraction's proprietary SilverWare engine. Despite being made in Game Maker they get ported to a different engine using their own porting technology which makes running the game on consoles easier.

How do you post in a thread about new information without reading the first few words in the OP?

No see, by saying 3D action they might be using the word "action" liberally as in to "perform an action", so we're probably just getting Travis doing Cooking Mama styled minigames in 3D where Travis has to stir the pot and heat up the grill with his beam katana.
