My dream indie games lineup would be:

- Shovel Knight
- Hotline Miami
- Donut County
- Crypt of the Necrodancer
- Rock of Ages
- Jazzpunk

Donut County for the Katamari Damacy vibe, Crypt of the Necrodancer speaks for itself, Rock of Ages for the Monty Python-esque visuals and humor, and Jazzpunk because of the crazy visuals and humor too.

What would've been the point of bragging about what engine the game uses in the trailer if it wasn't going to be a "full" sequel? People really weren't using there heads here.

SK makes sense as it's pretty much the best known indie game that's open to crossover shenanigans, and it'll be interesting to see NMH's hyperviolence contrast with SK's kid-friendly-ness.

Part of me wants Travis to pop into either Braid or The Witness, but I could never see Johnathan Blow agreeing to that.

The ignorance in this thread goddamn
No, you will deal with it, i stop caring about NMH after this announce ¯_(ツ)_/¯
You've got no good reasons to bitch. Not one. You just wanna bitch. Can't wait to see your worthless input in future NMH threads
I am allowed to be dissatisfied of the idea that No More Heroes needs to cling onto separate popular intellectual properties to get its next game going, I don't see why that is so hard to understand.
'clinging'... What a disingenuous description of indie game involvement in TSA, but hey, I guess you're also allowed to be an idiot

Rewatching the Nindies stream since I didn't catch it last night - apparently the Death Drive Mk. 2 is a game console that never went onto the market, and it runs on an engine called "Unreal Prototype", an obvious reference to the Unreal Engine. Rather than game cartridges or CDs, the games on the Death Drive Mk. 2 run on "Death Balls", and according to legend, if you collect all 6 of those games a Tiger God will grant you one wish. So this part is clearly parodying Dragon Ball but changes the Dragon motif with Travis' signature Tiger motif - which incidentally plays into the the old Chinese idiom of Tiger and Dragon, something that NMH2 did more explicitly with the Ryuji boss battle.

They also said the reason it isn't called No More Heroes 3 is because they wanted to start off on a fresh new adventure for newcomers and possibly set up a new future for the series. Suda feels the indie spirit manifests in the game through his desire to want to go back to making an "old school" kind of game on not as massive of a scale. Also, Suda said he wants to try making the game playable with only one Joy-Con, with the reason being that "it will make Travis much more easier to translate to Smash Bros."

It should be pointed out that during the stream Shovel Knight wasn't technically confirmed, Suda just said he wanted to work with it - but considering Yacht Club's enthusiastic response it seems like a done deal. He also invited other indie developers to get in touch with him. I'm wondering how far into development the game is; if it's targeting next year but they still haven't ironed out all the games being featured I'm wondering if they already have the mechanics and story down but maybe not the levels and worlds yet.

Is it safe to say that Shovel Knight is basically the mascot for indie games at this point?

I still cant believe this single kickstarter game has gotten so big to the point where other games now base their premise on it.
I say yes, as well as the poster child for successful Kickstarter games. Shovel Knight is far and away the highest profile indie title to come out in recent memory, and its reach has been absurdly long. Consider that it's the only non-Nintendo IP to get its own amiibos (not counting third-party Smash amiibos), SK's many appearances in other games, the fact that Nintendo published the game in Japan. Dude's got staying power.

I would have said Steve from Minecraft takes the crown, but that was before Microsoft purchased the IP. If there's one character who could be the face of indie games in 2017, Shovel Knight is the correct and most logical choice. Shantae is number two

Guacamelee
Rogue Legacy

Good to see the goal post being moved from "mini game collection" to "not real sequel, just you wait it's not gonna be great anyway".
It's literally the 1st Suda51 game to actually really be his own since NMH and you people act like it's a quick cashin like Shadow of the Damned or something?
And why is SotD a "quick cashin" because they heavily marketed that it was a Suda game when it wasn't really.
If it's back to the original NMH and other Killer7 crazyness, it's probably going to be the best game Suda put to his name in 10 years.

I wouldn't worry too much about control schemes since No More Heroes 2 had alternate ways to play and there's gotta be a way to enjoy the game in handheld mode. His comment about using the single Joy-Con seemed like a joke comment.

I'd love to see Bit.Trip represented in NMH3. That would be awesome.
Agree. It's another indie property with strong Nintendo ties.
The mascot for indie games should really be Commander Video. He's probably had more collaborations than Shovel Knight too.
I don't think Commander Video has the level of mindshare that Shovel Knight has. But before SK, he definitely would've been a contender.

The whole game is 3D Action, that's the genre, lol. I still don't get why so many other people are being willfully ignorant, smh.

Probably because the second game played with the idea of 2D mini games. I admit that I was confused too with the indie theme going on.

I also hope for Fire Pro to make an appearance but I'am doubtful. Would be cool for the boss to be that Ric Flair like dude who causes the main character to commit suicide in that SNES FP game to be the boss of that level.

An Undertale cross-over would be pretty sick. It would be the only level which you can complete non-lethally.

I bet Hotline Miami 1&2 collection is announced for Switch by the end of the year

The idea of NMH2 not being canon anymore bothers me a lot more than it should. It seems so arbitrary.

I havent seen anything officially from Suda or Grasshopper saying NMH2 isnt cannon dont know why people are saying that.

The reason the PR only talks about NMH 1 is because Bad Girl is from NMH 1 and her dad is coming after Travis, no reason for it to mention NMH 2 there.

Wait why doesn't Suda like NMH2!? That game was badass AF and from what I remember the gameplay was way more enjoyable and removed a lot of the jank from NMH1.

A few people who didn't like the second game tried really hard to interpret certain commentary snippets from Suda on the game as negative, even though they weren't at all as long as you don't project your own negative view on them.

I was going to say, I think there are some people reaching really hard to spin certain angles on things. The reason the trailer mentions No More Heroes 1 instead of 2 is because it's been that many years in universe since Travis killed Badgirl in the original. There's no direct evidence to say NMH2 is uncanon or Suda hates it.

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
I don't remember suda ever explicitly saying he disliked NMH2, he a might not have been a director but he was part of writing the story for the game

This is looking better and better, my choices for indies:

Hotline Miami
Shovel Knight
Enter de Gungeon
Crypt of the Necrodancer
The Binding of Isaac or Super Meat Boy
Cave Story

.n_n.

MUnited83

For you.
Sounds so fucking cool. HD NMH. Think about it. HD NMH. Hhnnnngggg.

I ready need to dust up my Wii and replay Mario galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, NMH and play Xenoblade Chronicles.

This much is obvious. It's probably the other reason why there is no '3' on the title of this one. Having the 3 implies there was a 2.
Missed opportunity to call it No More Heroes 2: Wrong Number

People have been ignoring clear words such as "plays like the cult classic series" so I highly doubt we've seen the last of it..

The fact that they specifically emphasize it in this press release already makes it pretty obvious it wasn't clear before at all, despite some people getting all defensive about it.

I love Shovel Knight, it's tonally a bit of an odd fit though.

About NMH2 being canon: I've only seen part of it, but from what Ive heard I'm not sure if even all that much happens in it that they would have to address? Even more so since you're essentially going to be in some sort of games dimension in the this game.

Is it fair to say that Shovel Knight has become almost like the mascot of the indies?

Feel like you point to an indie game and see him there making a cameo. Master Blaster, Yooka-Laylee, Runbow, Bloodstained (just to name a few) and now Travis Strikes Back. Not that I'm complaining since I'm interested to see the game in action (although that probably won't be for some time).

If Travis and Shovel Night aren't smash characters, I swear...

You know, NMH basically is a nintendo exclusive in anything but name.

Sure, there were ports to other consoles, but NMH games basically were designed for Wii and so far seems like this new one seems exclusive for the switch so far.

The mascot for indie games should really be Commander Video. He's probably had more collaborations than Shovel Knight too.

I dunno, Juan from Guacamelee seems to be out cameoing them by now by appearing in games even SK has declined like the mario kart clone and Bounty Battle.

An Undertale cross-over would be pretty sick. It would be the only level which you can complete non-lethally.

Nah, Travis should go full genocide for shits and giggles, like he takes Flowey's words at straight value and shenanigans ensue.
