New Clinton postmortem of campaign includes criticism of Sanders policy promises

the 2008 primary was orders of magnitude nastier and obama did just fine in the general

bernie took it easy on her and i wish he hadn't, he might have actually been able to win if he'd ever really gone on the offensive

Obama was a once and a lifetime politician surrounded by the most horrible conditions for any republican candidate caused by both the previous eight years of a republican POTUS, an economic crash and the choices made by the republican candidate.

Two completely different environments

I don't know, the hardest more anti hillary rethoric i saw came from Tumblr's LGBT community,

Wow, for real? Well, they sure showed everyone :) I am sure the next 3 years will be smooth sailin' for the LGBT community. Easy like Sunday mornin'.

Most "Bernie" people I knew were just normal people who preferred Bernie. When Clinton won the candidacy, they happily moved on to vote for Hill. Most of them.

After Bernie got manipulated by Russia's Facebook and twitter operation, a few of them turned into straight up idiots, believing actual murder conspiracies and ignoring the simple math of the delegate race.

After Bernie DELIBERATELY played into that, for presumably political reasons, I gave up on him. Before that, I'd happily have voted for him.

Those Facebook people went on to become absolutely obsessed with the fake version of Clinton they had assembled from Russian bots and Tweets. The role Bernie, Bernie "Bros" and Jill Stein played in the installation of Donald Trump is inarguable now. And a lot of those Facebook people just don't want to admit they were duped.

So Hillary is still the fake monster they bought.

It's funny, because it Hillary did the same thing to Obama.

It was the Clintons that shared childhood photos of Obama in Muslim garb and reading the Quran, reinforcing the secret Muslim narrative.

I'd say trying to stoke those bigoted flames is much worse than highlighting the truth that she is an establishment politician who plays the special interest game.

Can somebody answer me why Sanders was the only real contender against Clinton? Why weren't more Dems interested in trying to be the new POTUS?

I think that the damage that Bernie did to Clinton's campaign is pretty overstated. At the end of the day, she lost for other reasons that were more worth considering than his impact...on her campaign

I am more concerned about what Bernie's style of campaigning is doing to various factions among the left right now. The "six minute abs" story is spot on

She's not wrong, but I'm old enough to remember the 2008 primary in which Hillary was pretty ruthless against Obama so it's hard to feel really sorry for her. I feel sorry for the country, though.

This is why i was so angry at bernie for staying in the race after the March trashing where he lost all five states. He was all but mathematically eliminated after Super Tuesday but he stayed in and planted doubts in everyone's heads about who Hillary really is. Even Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio had the sense to drop out when it became apparent they were never going to catch up.

Bernie stayed until after the California primary and gave liberals a reason to hate her.

Hillary losing to fucking trump is her fault but Bernie shares A LOT of the blame.

I don't know, the hardest more anti hillary rethoric i saw came from Tumblr's LGBT community, sure Reddit had their share of Bernie bros, but if she thinks Bernie supporter's beef with her was entirely based on sexism she is very, very wrong.

She is right tho, the divide between her and Bernie supporter's prolly did a lot of damage, as an outsider seeing this unfold i was thinking "how is anybody surprised that the candidate they spent demonizing for the entire primary didn't win the presidency after they went 'fine, i'll guess i'll vote Hillary' like sore losers?"

it didn't really, though, as pointed out in other posts, a larger percentage of bernie voters voted for hillary than the percentage of hillary 08 voters who voted for obama.

...liberals still voted for her, though. the ones who didn't vote for her but voted for obama were swing votes who were part of trump's strongest demo

Yes because we all know that the primary spot was deemed hers to begin with. How dare someone more popular challenge her and the DNC?!

Anyways, she's just fueling Trump with this shit. She needs to stop.

Nope, she's 100% fucking right.

And I'm glad she's saying it... Not that it absolves her of responsibility by any means, but the character assassinations were completely uncalled for.

1/5th of Hillary voters in 2008 went to McCain and Obama still won. I am definitely looking for the tell-all story from someone who lost to a TV show rapist conman.

Also how are these comments from Hillary BLAST?

She's literally just describing what happened.

She is right, that Bernie was promising more, but offering far fewer details for those ambitious plans.

Medicare For All sounds great, and is most likely what the country needs, but how will it be implemented? How much will it cost? How long will it take to transition? What happens to the insurance companies?

His ideas were wonderful, but he lacked on explaining how they would be carried out.

Still voted for him despite all that.

Because Obama was backing her. This is why "the DNC" is used as a boogeyman, ignoring that the head of the DNC serves at the pleasure of the President if the Dems have the WH.

Legit question for the democrats...

Who's in charge right now? What's being done to unify the party after the election loss? With Trump causing so much damage, who is the leader the democrats need to rise up and staunchly fight against his racism, bigotry, incompetence, and unethical behavior?

Because I don't see anyone.

And from my side, it merely looks like the dems are pointing fingers at everyone else, valid or not.

Democrat blames everyone but themselves for their failure. News at 11.

Maybe Sanders was overly optimistic, but at least he actually tried. She seems content to mostly just let things stay as they are, because "republicans will block it so why try?"

Huh?

Question: Do you build a castle by putting flag up in the air first?

Success begets success. You need to build from the ground up. It's annoyingly slow, but before Nov the entire country was on a path to a more.progressive future, with either Bernie or Hillary poised well to continue it.

Instead it's all being literally gutted by grandpa Fox news.

What Hillary still doesn't seem to get is that America wasn't in the mood for navel-gazing policy wonkery. They wanted the dream. Bernie and Trump were selling dreams. Hillary was selling realism and constraints.

This is kind of where I am. She's not wrong, Bernie had an impact on her campaign but I don't think he had as big of an impact as she likes to believe he had. Hillary ultimately lost because of mistakes she made.

There appears to be none, which is going to be a huge issue next November.

Complacency. You could see that just by how many Democrats thought beating Trump or any other one of the Republican nominees was going to be a cakewalk.

It really is a shame. Next time we should probably just skip the Democratic primaries so that our prospective nominee of choice doesn't get too roughed up by the competition.

As is said, she's not wrong. That Trump straight up lifted Bernie's talking points, not merely to draw people to support him, but to keep them from voting for her.

Again, most people who voted for Sanders just preferred him. I've come to accept that the loud minority of people on facebook are just those who don't like politics and found something interesting to latch onto. The issue is Sanders created a toxic atmosphere that was able to drag Clinton down both by loud hardliners in the media and online Russian trolls, either payed or too stupid to understand they are buying into obvious right wing propaganda, to keep pumping the narrative.

Welp glad Americans buy into bullshit. I have some magic beans for everyone who wants some.

I'll be happy when I never hear another thing from the Clintons again and I voted for HRC. I'm sick to death of her excuses for losing against the most reprehensible man that has ever run for the office. The amount of Bernie voters who ultimately went for Trump wasn't that high: there was a thread on it a few months back.

Was that when Trump got almost three million fewer votes?

...which doesn't matter at all in our system.

xxracerxx

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

Are you not American? This is how it always is w/ the party that doesn't have the WH. There's never a singular party figurehead if you don't have the WH, though unofficial ones (Gingrich in '94 for the GOP) can emerge.

His refusal to be gracious compelled some precious white liberals I personally know to go to the convention thinking that they could flip superdelegates! They protested, they got blocked from coming back in. They cried foul play and conspiracy!

They went home and campaigned for Jill Stein and told everyone that would listen that Bernie was robbed and that Hillary was worse than Trump.

If people screwed by the DACA rollback want to punch these so-called liberals in the face, I don't endorse it, but I understand.

Bernie legitimized the right wing nonsense attacks on Hillary by repeating them as from a leftists mouth. The right won the rewrite of her character this way.

are there no valid left wing critiques of clinton? are we not allowed to voice them for fear of republicans?

Oh! You've obviously read the book that's not yet released, tell us more.

Or... could it be...

This is just one excerpt and doesn't tell us what are her other thoughts about the election?

If he went scorched earth he would have lost even more.
Or even worse Clinton might have retaliated and burned the guy to a point he would have lasted in the general anyway.
He's no Trump, he can't weather scandals left and right.

The irony of this is that Trump is planning on deporting DREAMERS in 6 months.
