Just reached ending A
I obviously have many questions, and most of them will be answered with the other playthroughs.

Loved the game so far.
I know that I have only 1/3 of the game completed.

Ok started this recently, I loved the first Nier. Loved it. It took me awhile to play this cause of backlog. I'm early on and having some difficulties. Need some guidance.

I've been mostly doing side quests. My main story quest is at the Flooded City (the two goliaths just opened a huge hole in the city ruins). I'm level 15.

I just need some hints on how to be better at surviving and combat. I'm dying too much. I get hit once and then get pounded into succession. Gimme some equipment and slot tips.

Should I just focus on story? Can I miss side quests? Getting around is frustrating though I heard you get fast travel at some point.

Help me enjoy this game more!

Can't miss sidequest
Fast travel will be unlocked soon, so focus on the story until you have it
If you get hit repeatedly there's a chip that gives you short invulnerability times iirc.

Also healing chips, healing chips and healing chips

Yeah I have a 30% heal on kills chip. Love it.

Ok I will focus on story, thanks!

If you ever pick up a chip that is auto-use Item, slot it in immediately. It automatically heals you once you go below 30%. This chip + the one that makes you invulnerable after the first hit + one that increases your dodge range = easy dance time.

Decided to bite on the sale and about to start a new game.

For my name I type in Spacejaws and it tells me it's a prohibited word. Wtf?

Narrowed it down and its tge word "Spac" it has a problem with. What the hell is a spac?

Edit* looked it up and it's another word for spaz apparently. Fook sake never heard of it even though I've been called a spaz millions of times. Seems a bit much though but o well I'll just go with Slappybaws then...

Huh, apparently with the sale Nier is at the top of steam's global best sellers with only PUBG as the current juggernaut standing in the way.

Got some more sidequests done last night, but it does slow down the pacing quite a bit. I understand the people who say that this game doesn't benefit from its open world format now. While I'm enjoying the game so far, it really doesn't need all this running back and forth. Even with fast travel, it's just kind of tedious.

Couple of thoughts about sidequests and what I've seen:
-
Robot city kid: Kid seems to have gotten the wrong idea about breaking that damn lock. 9S won't always be there to crack locks for you, you know.
-
Robot city weirdo: That was pretty interesting how the guy knew that playing the fool made him more money. His lesson is probably some heavy foreshadowing for someone. Maybe even 9S himself, since I still wonder if 9S is as innocent as he seems.
-
Robot monk guy: I was really sad when I found that the last fight was to the death. I liked that guy. Really had a huge disconnect there, because I liked him while 9S seemed to hate him. 2B seemed to have a mixed reaction about it.
-
Amusement park game dev guy: Dude, that was fucked up. I killed a bunch of carnival robots (that I had been avoiding until then because they were non-hostile) just so that this game dev guy can make the same damn hacking minigame that 9S always does anyway? And I can't seem to close the quest out either because the red quest marker is still on the game dev guy's head, even after I finish his game.
- 9S's operator:
I know it's an anime trope that's been done a lot (though not quite done to death), but I still like the cooldere interactions between 21O and 9S. It's amusing. I like their banter more than the stuff between 2B and her operator.

I'm looking forward to continuing the main story once I'm done with these sidequests.

I just need some hints on how to be better at surviving and combat. I'm dying too much. I get hit once and then get pounded into succession. Gimme some equipment and slot tips.
The dodge is super forgiving in this game in that you can cancel any animation into a dodge, including another dodge. If you think you're about to get hit, just mash dodge for a while, and one of them will work.

Healing chips help a ton, too. Combat got way easier for me once I got the auto-heal and health regen chips. Remember to get
those chip slot space upgrades at the resistance camp
.

The goal isn't to complete it, you have to "debug" it, which means finding the condition in which the game crashes.

Just started route c and I'm feeling pretty underleveled, if that's possible. I'm 40 fighting packs of 50s and it's not going so well.

I'm much more ijtresterd in the story than the gameplay at this point. Do I miss out on anything by dropping to easy?

Nothing at all.

Fuck this game.
The section with 2B being infected with the virus is horrible game design and just punished you for sticking with the game. Fuck you developers, I’m not bothering with the game anymore.

Did you encounter a moose on the bridge?

Didn’t even get near the bridge. Not bothering anymore, developer doesn’t respect my time so I won’t pursue this game further.

In the case you do wanna try it again at some point here's a tip

Go all the way outside-left of the crater, you have more than enough time and the way is mostly free of enemies

What? What's punishing about it? I don't recall anything about that <5 minute sequence being particularly difficult. For what it's worth, that's the only such segment of the game and
the end of 2B
.

It's a five minute sequence that is crucial to the whole narrative...You're not going to playing the entire level like that.

Just finished Amnesia and Resistance Disappearance.

Damn, that was some heavy stuff.

Another thought just occurred to me.
How come Jackass acted like she's never met me? By the time this Amnesia quest unlocked, we already met her.

She's tsundere like that.

:eyeroll:

Did you not get there because of not enough time or what?
afair on my first go I had to wait around near the bridge for some minutes to see what happens if you lose,
the timer isn't strict at all.

The timer's speed depends on how far you are from the target.

Man, it's really a shame that they won't frigging patch the game considering it's still jumping to the top of the Steam charts every time it goes on sale. Sure, it's easy enough to "fix" with the mod, but it makes for such an awful first impression.

It's another example of a good game that is terribly supported/handled because of corporate bullshit that probably has nothing to do with the devs who created it.

Some more sidequest stuff
- Fuck escort sidequests. Escort missions are notoriously frustrating, and the ones in this game make zero effort to make them any better. I also think I broke the
machine examination
sidequest while doing the
parade escort quest because the parade ran through one of the marked areas on the map. So when I killed everything there, I don't think the right part dropped but the map still considered that area complete for the machine examination sidequest.
So now I think I'm kinda boned. And that freaking
find the runaway kid robot
quest.
Thanks for aggroing pretty much every pack of enemies on your way back, kid
.
- The guy
trying to fix a lost Yorha robot into his family
was really creepy and sad at the same time. The fact that the
fixed "family" robot said "please" with no context as to whether it was asking you to support or kill him
definitely seems intentional.
- Yorha definitely seems to have
a lot of problems with runaways, which is reflected both in how many sidequests have something to do with runaways and the fact that they have a goddamn hidden E-type that's designed to hunt them down. The Yorha runaways seem to mirror how some machines have given up fighting as well. Between that and how there are minor inconsistencies in Route A and B (are we really replaying the same events or is there a time loop of some sort going on?), it makes me wonder if 9S or 2B have gone rogue at some point or something before, and just don't remember it
.
- Found the
wise robot standing silently in high places. Felt bad when the second hack on him killed him. Avoided doing a second hack the next time I saw the guy, but I don't know where he'll show up next.
- The desert quest to
find old relics really sucked. Running around the entire desert with a futuristic metal detector is not my idea of fun at all.

It's a real pain that one of the best weapons in the game is locked behind it, but also lol that's some good Cavia level trolling.

9S + Spear of the Usurper + crit chips + spear throw = gg ez

Wow. I just beat Route B and started Route C and didn't have any of my chips. I realized I died during the final bullet segment of the last boss of B, but I had not died in so long (months in real life) and forgot you needed to pick up body.

Looks like I'm done with the game. No Route C for me.

Didn't even think about changing difficulty! I'll hit it up this weekend.

Yes on easy you can buy and use the auto aim chips so could get you by till you build up your arsenal. You can switch difficulty at any time as well.

So I also just got started on Route C. I played through A back in July, and did all the way up to (just before) the Forest segment in Route B.

I had to put the game down, because the same-ness of everything was getting to me. I didn't want to sour on the game. I see now, however, that I should have said something here, because I was thirty minutes of gameplay away from all new content. I would have stuck with it if I'd known I was right by the end of repeated content. :|

But yeah. I played the entirety of B. Started up C, played it for an hour or two. Or three? I don't even know. I played way longer than I initially intended lol. I did see (big? spoiler)
2B's death
. That's where I called it for the night, though.

The story has certainly begun to move again... However, and I don't want to sound like I'm just speaking of the negatives, but Route B was dumb lol. That repeated content was still such a burnout. I loved the different perspective and stuff, and the
hacking
is fun. But after you get out of the opening Factory... Dang, man. I'm not a game creator or story writer, so I'm not about to say how things "should have been", but I feel like the first half (past the Factory segement) of B could maybe have been put together with A. Somehow. I don't know.

ENDING ON POSITIVE NOTE unless things loop over again, I see myself playing this through to the end this time, without any more two month long breaks. If it does loop back around, ehhhh...

Someone please tell me it won't repeat content again 😥

Well, at least you admit that it wouldn't be that simple lol

So many people carelessly suggest that, not taking into account that a lot of stuff would have to be changed in order for it to flow well.

That 'Preview' it played at the end of B/start of C was such a great decision. It's like, "Hey, you just finished that and I just want to let you know that there is a lot more new stuff to this, and it'll be great."

Yeah, I can see how choppy it would make the story. But it's a flow-breaker, and I'd not be surprised if a large portion of people just drop the game entirely because of it. Which is pretty sad to think of, since it'd be like putting a book down in the first third.

@Bold text: You don't even know how much more that makes me want to play, haha. Was more than a bit worried playing that long session would come back to bite me as it put me into a "B2"!

Bit late to the party but I've only just started this game today. I had no idea what it was about really, never played the first one, never played the demo for this, just thought I'd go for it cos I heard good things. Looks like my gamble is paying off as the game is bloody marvellous so far. I'm only about 3 hours in, just killed the
naked dude
in the desert. Can't wait to dive into more tomorrow.

What should I be selling and keeping at the vendors? I was going to sell all my ore, but never just in case.

Desert Roses are the only items that you really need to hold on to (for a side quest). You might want to keep one of each type of fish/meat as well. You'll be swimming in cash by the end of the game, though, so there's no great need to sell items anyway.

Little cool thing I noticed, not sure if it's common knowledge.

If you let 9S run into an elevator or corridor while at the bunker, if he gets locked into the area, you can have 2B keep going and get a view of the station from outside, as well as the stars and the Earth, depending on your position in the base.

Route C question:

Is there a suggested way of playing through 9S and A2? I went 9S, A2, 9S so far. I feel like playing through them alternatively will be better than finishing one at a time since the "timeline" will theoretically make more sense by the end, seen as how they were (seemingly) both awakened simultaneously
