Good video.

Quick and dirty summary:

- 900p docked
- 600p in portable
- Good AA solution + clever use of DoF means it is hard to tell the game isn't running at 720p in handheld mode.
- Frame rate mostly solid 30 with some drops when special effects occur while zoomed in.
- Frame pacing pretty much perfect throughout

Kill with arm cannon if old.

This game looks really good and fun to play, I love Xcom so I'm soo down for this game!

The resolution in portable mode is a little low but other than that the visuals are really nice!

Nice, I'll be sure to queue their analysis up tonight.

The game does really look fantastic though, and it's fun and charming to boot.

The game is super pretty. Impressive on the handheld.
Could use some polish, but it's a pretty solid effort.
It seems about on par with 3d world which looked good.
It looks like 3D world with good IQ, more texture detail, and better character models.
Impressive that they managed to replicate the style tho

Snowdrop Engine really seems to be quite versatile and powerful, powering everything from The Division to Mario and the new Southpark game

I don't know I thought it was super obvious. It almost looked like it was streaming from somewhere it was so blurry.
Docked is fine.

It's a great looking game, I never even noticed the game ran sub-HD on the handheld screen.

It's 600p handheld btw, not 640p as you were unsure of, just to clarify.

900p is fine, I know this since Zelda Breath of the Wild already looked close to perfect IQ-wise on my 50 inch TV. I thought 900p might be pretty bad when in fact it's a big step up from the 720p(no AA) WiiU quality.

Isn't the Switch's screen 720p? How come that it looks blurry if it's not being upscaled?

That's what upscaling does, the missing pixels will always create a blur effect. What you think about might be downscaling(downsampling), having a higher internal resolution scaling to a lower res screen, that would make the image sharper but also put even more load on the system.

Is this first non-native resolution game on Switch (in handheld mode)? Still of course great looking title.

Splatoon 2 also uses dynamic resolution, so it uses 600p in some cases. Breath of the Wild does this too, it's only locked at 900p in docked mode. (perhaps not even there but I'm not sure)

Too much DOF in places to my liking but overall looks good

Performance isn't great though when it randomly drops when going through the world it has hitches and drops and in many battles there is noticeable frame rate drops

I know what upscaling does. I misread the OP and thought it was rendering at 900p/720p, not 900p/600p.

Awesome analysis! Really can't believe what they were able to accomplish with that engine. Are there any other Ubisoft games running on Snowdrop? I won't if this means we'll see more ports.

600p portable

Made the game completely unplayable for me!

Don't know how it's a superb tech showcase when it's incredibly buggy.

Random crashes and button prompts not working. Freezes occasionally as well.

Hasn't ruined the game for me, but buggiest Switch game I've played.

I'd be in the dick
This game finally answers the question of what Nintendo games would look like with proper AA. Gorgeous.

Yeah, I was wondering why it looked so fuzzy in portable mode. I was like "this doesn't even look HD".

Great game though. Such a fun and inspired project.

Man, it's incredible the amount of people having problems with the game when i have none, seriously, i'm in chapter 4 and haven't had a single problem yet. Have you tried turning off the wifi, like some users here suggested?

They probably haven't run across that stuff.

I know I haven't.

Cross post from other thread:

Probably using the Super Sampling TAA that the Division also had, looks wonderful!

This video was also worth alone just to hear Dark10x say "Fractured But Whole".

Thankfully we always knew this due to emulation :D

But fuck yeah, their games would be killer with some competent edge handling.

There are a few places I've noticed it being a bit blurry in handheld mode, but overall it's a beautiful looking game and if we continue to get games like this on Switch we will be happy Switch owners, IMO.

Surprised at the portable res especially when it looks fine and not very muddy at all like I felt happened a lot with sub-native res Vita games. The art style lends itself to hiding that pretty good.

And as for bugs or anything, I've not come across any, and I've played about 10 hours with a 50/50 docked/undocked split. Hopefully for the people that have had them they can get them fixed though.

Zelda looks good (mostly because of art style), but close to perfect IQ on a 50 inch? just lol

maybe tomorrow it rains
I think it's noticeable that it's not 720p when playing undocked (the only way I've played), but the AA really does make it look alright. I'd love for it be native res, but it's nice for what it is.

The framerate issues would be more frustrating if the battles weren't turn-based, but I'm pretty forgiving when it doesn't impact the gameplay. Another thing that would be nice if it didn't exist, but it's not a dealbreaker for me personally.

Glad to see DF doing more Switch coverage. I'd really like to see Overcooked revisited now that it has received a patch.

Ey im just dissapointed a few (exclusive) games won't use the pretty screen very well, thats all.

Even Wiu didn't have sub 720p on the exclusives no matter the graphics.
