Yeah, intentional or not this topic feels like a pointless magnet for PC outrage.
It's not to justify PewDiePie's act there but but this news seem like it can hold much water for debate after the other shit he's manage to get out of.

Who says there should be a debate, there's no debating this. It's shitty behaviour and people should know one of the top entertainment personalities in the whole world partakes in it.

Well, I don't know what it takes to get banned from YouTube, but if half of the content creators have been making Nazi jokes and using the n-word like that, then sure, I think there should be action taken against all of them by the platform holders.

Well most people that make those type of jokes like don't really get ad revenue anymore so I guess that works. lol

using hitler propaganda, saying racial slurs...between him and Maximilian i'm wondering what these guys really think...casual racism is very dangerous

Max was an accident while saying dumb silly things and he straight up apologized and was like "oh shit I can't believe I said that" basically. Pewds is a shitlord like Jon and that's unfortunate because I liked them both once upon a time.

If you honestly believe Maximillian is a racist youre crazy. He was reading a donation name and said the wrong thing.

xxracerxx

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
The way he said it was what surprised me. I mean had he said it casually in replacement of the word "bro" I would have moved along but he actually says "fucking n*****". I don't even hear black people use it in that way.

Don't be. It just rolls off the tongue for people that use it casually. Look at the fucker that used Martin Luther Coon as an example.

Tbh I don't think a knee-jerk reaction like what Felix had because he was in the moment doesn't constitutes his account being closed. Get invested in a game, say some stupid shit when your filter isn't a priority. He'll most likely just apologize about it and move on.

Yeah it's just one of those n***** moments nothing to see here we all got those.

I'm always curious about the crossover in alt-right ideas and youtubers. It's a chicken/egg situation. Are they always like this, and the truth just eventually comes out? Or do they get some fame and some money and decide that they are better than other people? Or maybe they're even glib enough to think that the alt-right are the best group to take money from by acting it up?

It's strange.

The alt right is married to troll culture, and so is YouTube. It's a weird polygamous relationship that indirectly links people like PDP with the alt right.

It's also why a lot of children are playing with fascism and racism. They think it's funny. They think outrage is funny.

I'm a big fan of context if you're going to use any kind of tasteless language like that, and well, the context here is just offensive really. There's not even a joke that's not meant to offend, it's just flat out calling a dude it.

Blegh. And I know I'll get people who argue with my thoughts on the usage of such vernacular but eh. I don't say it, it's only what I use to judge if it's an acceptable use or not.

why are people so scared and offended by a simple word ?

Yeah, why are people offended by someone using a racial slur... in the context of using it as a racial slur.

Context is nearly everything. I mean, in the case of racial slurs, I have a problem with it, even without context. But here, the context is pretty clear: He's using a racial slur and he meant it as a racial slur.

“I mean what an asshole”

Yeah I also get mixed up between saying asshole and nigger all the time

smh

damn i just started watching him after the whole wsj situation :/ oh well, guess i'll unsubscribe. this is not like maximillian's accidental N bomb, his came out as a mistake this came with hate

Not surprising. He's always been a garbage person. I'm not defending it whatsoever, but if you would say something awful like that, you'd think you would right away acknowledge it and say you regret it. PDP just moved on pretty quickly from it...

The debate then should be how to starve him of attention and traffic so his popularity gradually dies out.

A quick reminder to the people reading this thread that NeoGAF is the most progressive gaming forum on the internet. Yeah.

obviously he was being ironic

by using that word he wanted to bring attention to how people use that word in a bad way

you have to understand his sense of humour and listen to his tone of voice

plus he even says he didn't mean it in a bad way so calling him racist just because of this is just jumping way too fast to conclusions

people have actually made comments exactly this stupid in pewd's defense before

It's really weird the ease at which he says it, like its just normal for him to chuck that out as an insult to someone.

He's always been horrific so it's no surprise but if he uses it that easily you can get thousands of the kids watching call each other than as an insult all the time.

So PC outrage has now expanded to thinking white people saying the n word with a hard R in a negative context to thousands of kids is bad lol

The n word does not pop out of your mouth by accident. Of all the things that slip out of my mouth by accident, the n word (or any other ethnic slur) is not one of them. It's literally not in my vocabulary.

He probably said it by accident, but that's only because it's a word that is in his vocabulary that he probably uses when he is alone or with the right people.

I think it has to do a lot with the age of the average "professional" youtuber/streamer. I'm around the same age as every single one of these dudes, and I distinctly remember growing up on the internet with that same kind of "humor" exposed to me. Back in the day, probably around ages 10-13, I was always bombarded with Hitler jokes and race jokes. In the late 90s/early 2000s on the internet, there was this dark, edgy, tryhard phase that a lot of people went through that was masquerading behind the mask of nerd punk rock, though in hindsight, a person can't be punk if they say/think these things. I found an old written diary of mine back when I was cleaning out my parents' house to move out, and I was shocked and disgusted with the things I had written down.

The difference between me and those streamers is that I eventually grew out of that humor, I went outside, I got a social life, I got a job, I exposed myself to more of the world. It took a long time, probably not until I was a full-fledged adult (18-20), to shake all of my gross learned habits from my time growing up on the internet. These guys stayed on the internet until they could make a living off of it.

That's why when I see shit like this happen with Pewds and JonTron and whoever else, my first kneejerk reaction is, "You're a fucking adult now. Do better."

But they never do, because they never actually grew up.

I perfectly agree. I'm not a fan of it either, but I can understand malicious and non-malicious use, and PDP definitely was definitely on the Malicious end without a doubt.

You gotta be fucking shitting me. Really???

I can't.

why would you say this

the racist are just coming out today.

OR somethings are actually offensive and should be treated as such.

Fuck off for trying to pass of someone using racist language as outrage culture

wedding-crashers-wtf.gif

Hottest of the hot takes, y'all.

Ah, not-racist-just-calling-it-as-I-see-it guy has finally arrived.

How often do you say it?

Holy shit. I don't even.

No, I don't say the fucking word.

My first thought was "of course he fucking would say that."

And this isn't even a MaximilianDood situation by a goddamn longshot; this kind of shit does not come out of your mouth accidentally.

Max didn't do shit but jumble around the words Ninja dagger and a bunch of gibberish that came out sounding like the n word. It's pretty obvious that wasn't his intention.

I can't believe people are still bringing that up.

Totally true. I know a guy with mild tourettes and he doesn't even use the word.

A white internet celebrity said something racist?

I for one am shocked!

Bullshit, we know what it means.

I would actually contest that the pejorative aspect of the word is that well-known in European countries. The slavery association definitely was not common knowledge where I went to school in the north of the Netherlands. But even then, it still doesn't make the use of the word the way Pewdiepie does it anywhere near justifiable: his use is pejorative no matter the understanding of the full context: it was just racist.

Edit: To clarify a bit more, what I want to say is that in my experience, people from where I'm from are not at all always aware of the slavery association, and furthermore the extent to which the word is a denigrating slur is also not fully understood, at least in my generation (I'm 21 fyi), although it is often understood that the term itself refers to black people. People I've been to school with often didn't seem aware of the gravity of the term, and used it among each other (among white people to be specific) as a joking insult as well. Still a terrible case of (hardly ever excusable) ignorance and often worse, at least in the way Pewdiepie used it.

This excuse is fucking stupid. It doesn't excuse you anywhere else in life. People get fired for less and it is precisely because of this attitude that the adpocalypse is happening to content creators. It's bad for business and rightfully so.
