‘Destiny 2’ sweeps in to No1, becoming the biggest launch of the year so far. Released on Wednesday 6th September, almost 3 years after the original, Activision Blizzard and Bungie’s online-only shooter pushes ‘Uncharted: The Lost Legacy’ (-49%) off top spot, down one place to No2.

Launched across Xbox One and PS4, 58% of sales go to Sony’s format and 42% to Microsoft’s. The original, which was also released on PS3 and Xbox 360, saw Sony’s formats account for 51% and Microsoft’s formats 49%. With the new Xbox One X only 2 months away, a retailer price promotion on the original Xbox One S hardware means bundled titles jump up the chart; most notably ‘Forza Horizon 3’(+79%) up from No10 to No3, ‘Fallout 4’ (+102%) up from No14 to No5, ‘Dishonored 2’ (+129%) up from No17 to No8, ‘Doom’ (+132%) up from No19 to No9 and ‘Minecraft: Xbox One Edition’ (+117%) up from No24 to No11.

There are new entries this week for ‘Knack II’ at No12, ‘Monster Hunter Stories’ at No21 and ‘The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+’ for Nintendo Switch at No36, while ‘Lego Worlds’ (+21%) climbs 2 places to No14, boosted by the release of a Nintendo Switch version.

Feel bad for Uncharted, man. Same thing happened to Uncharted 4 - came out, went straight to number one, then Overwatch came out and totally pushed it aside.

Wasn't expecting Knack 2 to light the chart on fire, but would have thought it would be higher then that - I hope it holds steady in the charts.

Launching the same day as Destiny 2 was pretty mental, to be fair, as well as it being FIFA month and all that. Should've done a Crash and launched in the summer, or closer to Christmas for thosw kids-bundle deals.

Makes sense in a way, since this is not a numbered Uncharted title, and D2 is also available on Xbox (we're talking about the UK after all, where XO is still relevant).

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

I'm hoping it wasn't a high cost project for them, and that it can push a steady flow of units throughout the remainder of the year with its reduced price and family oriented nature - cap it off by bundling it in with Crash Bandicoot and/or Ratchet & Clank and hopefully they'll see some value in it.

Jokes aside, I'd like to see a Knack 3. The second is such a massive improvement over the first in every conceivable way that I honestly feel it deserves one more entry just to see where they take it.

knack 2 flopped. Even if the second game is decent, it was always gonna be a meme for most people and they'll skip the sequels.

Oh yeah, it absolutely makes sense, just feel bad for Naughty Dog if anything. They need to stop releasing games just before massively popular, multiplayer shooters, ha.

Also, didn't see this in OP - Destiny 2 sales are 58% down compared to the original.

Curse Retailers/Microsoft for allowing a price promotion on the week of Knack 2 release!!!

The original Xbox One S hardware with bundled titles jumping up in the chart took Knack 2 #7 spot, lol.

Yeah, Minecraft, Forza, DIshonored 2, Fallout and Doom all sold gangbusters last week due to those great Xbox One bundles on offer, I nearly bought one myself!

If you looked at any Amazon chart for example you see that Destiny 2 wasn't doing as good as Destiny 1, never understood how Activision was saying pre-orders were better than the first game...

Eh, even if we cut PS3 and X360 D2 launch wasn't a big success compared to D1.

Maybe in NA and other parts in Europe the game sold well?
I'm pretty sure in NA the game sold very well.

Any game will eventually get knocked off the top spot though, that's not the best gauge for success. Lost Legacy has sold incredibly well, especially considering its origins as an intended story expansion.

In regards to hardware driving software sales, the charts are starting to get into 'early Christmas present hoarding' territory for the UK. Guarantee a lot of those Xbox One S bundles are being shoved away until December. Expecting to see some ambient chart rises from Switch first party software (Zelda BOTW, Splatoon 2) once Mario Odyssey releases in October.

Ouch....but expected.
The timing of Destiny 1 being able to hit the old system while having new console owners jump on the train was perfect....this wasnt the case this time.

And people who were open minded on D1, played it and didnt like it probably arent returning for the sequel.

Damn, not even half of it. Unlike the first one Destiny 2 isn't the first huge game for this gen and isn't as hype.

Not surprising.

It is interesting though that the unit difference between XB1 and PS4 is smaller than with Destiny 1. Did UK have any Destiny 2 bundles?

Not surpised about the Destiny 2 debut. I think a lot of people are taking a wait and see aproach to how it turns out, or waiting for the PC and One X versions. Including myself.

Totally called it...

Hopefully this will mean Sony won't give Knack the time of day anymore and instead of a third game, we'll get a sequel to a first-party platforming IP that was actually good. Like Jumping Flash!. Or Jak & Daxter. Or Ape Escape. Or Puppeteer.

Bruno MB

Knack 2 launch is less than a third of the original one.

Let's see if MCV shares the second week percentage drop for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle.

Even with say... D2 50-60% digital rate from a D1 20-30%, it launched lower than I thought.
While true, digital won't completely recover those sales, you do have to factor in that the PC release was delayed as well.

Weaker retail sales with stronger digital and delayed release on a major digital platform will make this launch look weak.

Also something different, I wonder if we get anything on hardware sales for the week. Was fun seeing somewhat weekly updates for hardware increases last year.

Knack 2 is about on the same level as all of those franchises you've named in terms of gameplay quality imo. :shrugs:

But Knack 2 isn't bad :(

I do think that other Sony franchises deserved sequels more than knack tho.
