is this just Nintendo of Japan? I wouldn't take this as confirmation of NOA's plans until we hear anything that specifically mentions North America.

Good to hear. I'm still hesitant to cancel my amazon.de order despite having a best buy one as I really don't trust Nintendo at this point. Will it ever be at the point where I can just walk into a store to snag one or will it remain a lottery every time the stores refresh their stock for another year?

I've got a preorder through Walmart, but would prefer to get it from Best Buy for GCU points. I'm keeping my preorder, but if i can actually walk into BB on day one and buy one I will, and return that Walmart one. I'm not taking any chances.

I'm guessing finally getting through the thick skulls of their ancient board of directors.

Ppl blame Reggie, but Reggie doesn't set manufacturing allotment. He's just a PR guy.

He's the President of NOA. He should have some say in manufacturing (that's just my opinion of course).

Does all the manufacturing occur overseas?

This thread is about NoA's statement. NoE also said the same thing.

Does this mean legit retailers will reajust the price? I don't know if I will keep my 94€ preorder.

So that still means barely any supply? Gotcha.

They may make more for the time being, but it doesn't mean it's going to be in large quantities.

I'm talking about the fact that these are limited instead of evergreen products.

I honestly thought they would be Walgreens for perpetuity, just like those Atari ones.

They said they'd have more stock at launch than NES Classic.

Good on Nintendo. I'm still not cancelling my extra SNES pre-orders until I know for sure I will have them delivered.

Part of me still wishes they would have made these things expandable so that you could buy and download additional games via the eShop.

What? They even said they'd have more stock at launch than they had the entire run of the NES Classic.
Not quite. More SNES at launch than NES last year (so November+December), but they kept shipping more NES until April if I recall. So not more than "the entire run" on launch day.

Still a huge improvement, just correcting the details in your post :)

Ah, you are correct. I'll edit. Thanks.

Since demand is somewhat high for the holiday season, my sense is that IF there are limited quantities at retail for the initial batch, we'll still have to fight scalpers. Hopefully it will be much easier to get them online between now and then.

Really glad to hear that Nintendo is listening, and that they're not being willfully ignorant of scalpers screwing over a chunk of their core audience.

It's nice to see Nintendo finally start trying to find scalpers on these minis

Besides being lost money on their part, I really do think it's much better for their brand.

Instead of just having the hot ticket item that no one can get, a bunch of kids get one, hey these Nintendo games are pretty cool, let me see their new stuff

To be clear scalpers could not give two shits about this. The average person comes release day is going to see its sold out and have no idea about supply chain. For example, everyone knows they will eventually get an iPhone but they still always sell for more at launch on eBay. NES classic still sold at a premium even when people thought there would be more stock eventually. People who pay these prices are acting on FOMO and are not being fully rational in the first place.

Secondly. Unlike the NES classic, there are 3 different continents with 3 different SNES designs. Cross continent sales to collectors are going to be big deal. Not to mention the unreleased game thing, demand will be unusually high.

Nothing about Nintendos history has ever told you that they can handle stock shortages and this, despite statements will be no different.

If you truly care about getting your hands on a SNES classic try and be a bit smarter. I have never had an issue in my life getting hold of anything that has a high demand like this, it requires a bit of research and pre-ordering at the right time. If the scalpers can get it, you can too. Nintendo is to blame here, but you have to accept that it's your own fault too if you can't get one.

If you're in England use stockinformer.co.uk - even as recently as last week stock popped up there and they notify you when it does. The day it came for pre order out I made multiple posts informing the people in the UK of stock on NeoGaf - check my history - a good lot of you managed to scoop one up.

This is great and all but it must be pointed out how badly Nintendo fucked up with the NES of the snes is shipping more day one than NES did in two months of 2016. How can a company that big misread demand that badly?

Holy shit. I just mentioned this last night in a thread.

Also, if Nintendo was really making an effort to make things right, they would release the NES Classic again. Nintendo will never be a bag holder when it comes to stock, their only intention is to make less than demand every time.

Did you read the announcement? They are!

I don't believe them. Plus, this thing is going to slay during the holidays. Maybe you can find one with some luck in 2018, but I can't see Nintendo meeting demand during the holiday season.

I don't get why they just can't sell these things normally. Why this limited run shit?

"We have this product that is massively popular. Lets sell them for a few months then stop for no fucking reason" - Nintendo.

I don't think you know how production works, Nintendo has to plan beforehand how many units they might sell, they have been burned badly with the WiiU before(having to pay a lot for warehouses where they had to store units that didn't sell, still they had to produce more and more as they had a certain amount ordered for the first year). You can see how this affects shipments with the Switch already, changing contracts and producing units isn't as easy as the push of a button.

Was that so hard?? Never seen a company fight so hard not to take money from eager consumers. The manufacturing limitations defense force can fuck off for good now.

I wonder how many Snes they will actually produce. Would be kind of hilarious if it outsells the Wii U.
If they supply enough it will outsell the Switch this holiday alone. Maybe they've been limiting stock because they've foolishly been worrying about the optics of that.

I can't help but think that the NES Mini momentum have already passed.

It would've sold millions more if it was released on Christmas last year with way more stock.

Now everyone will have that hot SNES mini and when they see the NES Mini in a store they will just say: Neat huh.

Huh?
Isn't it the very same thing?

The only thing that is different is the region sporting the other design (USA instead of Japan) but we still have two aesthetics being produced.

I disagree. There are tons of people out there who want a NES Classic because that was the only system they grew up with and the nostalgia factor is huge. I bought one even though the NES was not the system that started my love for videogames. Also, at the MSRP, there is no reason to not afford both.

Nice, I want an extra controller for my nes mini since never got the 2nd controller (snes mini will work too but want 2 nes controllers anyways)

Hopefully the NES Classic 2.0 has added features, such as the ability to purchase and add additional games through a microSD card slot.

That said, rather than just new versions of the hardware, I've been saying for a while that they should just make "Switch edtions" of the two devices as games for the console.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
So then no N64 classic in 2018? I doubt Nintendo would put an NES and N64 classic on the shelf at the same time.

I really don't think an N64 classic would have the same overall appeal/sales potential as the (S)NES. Narrower market, less overall nostalgia, and a smaller selection of High-caliber games, especially if Rare is a no-go.

Nothing about that argument is invalidated by this though.

In fact, I'd say that the NES Classic not coming back until the summer actually supports it.

They supposedly almost had a deal with MS for XBLA Goldeneye so maybe something can get figured out. I'd buy a N64 classic day one for $80-$100

People cry about Nintendo not having a lot of stock of the classic editions, Nintendo announces more stock and longer production and we still have people complaining and saying they dont believe them smh

Sue me because I think this news is blah :p

Was going to be nice to own a little collector's item but now it'll just be more plastic.

Also what does this mean for Virtual Console?

I wouldn't put much stock in this comment. Good that they're making more, but demand for SNES will be greater than it was for NES and I still expect them to under produce because they're Nintendo. It's still not going to be as easy to buy one as it should be.
