Connecticut Democrat resigns after outed as furry

Well guess Im never running for office

A Connecticut resident found Democrat Scott Chamberlain’s profile on sofurry.com, took screenshots and posted them on community Facebook pages to embarrass the politician

It worked, as he resigned almost immediately.

Chamberlain’s profile showed he liked to be called Gray Muzzle the fox and was happy to divulge his sexual likes and dislikes even saying he ‘tolerated’ rape.

And it emerged he wrote erotic furry fiction under a pen name which had got him hundreds of followers

Now ain't trying to kinkshame (because lord why would I) and think this whole thing is unfortunate, but the bolded is the only really problematic part in my eyes
However, he insisted his own participation had ‘nothing to do with sex; it’s an interest in cartoon animals.’

EDIT explanation on why those kinks were on display the way the were:

For the new page:

PLEASE, take this article with a barrel of salt. This is an issue with SoFurry's tag system.

Firstly, this guy has the most vanilla stories and comics I've ever seen.
https://gray-muzzle.sofurry.com/stories

https://www.furaffinity.net/user/Mx5Madness

This article breaks down how the SoFurry tag system works. In context, you can filter content with "loves", "likes", "tolerates", and "hates". The filters you use are available publicly, which leads to situations like these. I can almost guarantee he meant it in context of fictional art.

More info on SoFurry's GUI design here: https://www.flayrah.com/7083/furry-...urry-profile-mishap-how-site-design-flaws-are

UPDATE: SoFurry has fixed their tag system so this doesn't happen again.

From the above article:

This is simply a bad UI. "Tolerates" was on the negative side of the preferences. It could have easily gone into the tag filter if wasn't so oddly placed.

I'm not sure to be honest. If you're in any sort of public role, things get dicey. Fantasies/kinks can get weird really fast. It doesn't mean you want to endulge in

im sure there are furries who really aren't interested in any sexual aspect of the fandom but yeah thats probably a lie for this dude, sofurry is a sex based site in my experience. i mean it used to be called yiffstar for crying out loud

anyway it makes me sad that this undid his career, but you really do need to purge the internets before being in public service. if it was only because he was a furry i would be enraged, but with the sex info i have to be like eh well this sucks but i understand

rather furries then white supremacists in office

I can never run for office though. Well, after Ted Cruz liked porn maybe I can. Will run on a platform of eating ass. I'll post my own Twitter likes to my campaign page, what you gonna do now?

EDIT: I'm really going to have to think about this one for a while. I get the idea of fantasy being in someone's home and not at all indicative of what you enjoy in real life, but rape fantasy sticks out to me quite a bit. And yes, I'm aware of the irony of it being on a video game board when video games engage in murder and rape fantasy.

That said, posts on the matter of the website's reporting, particularly around the UI of the website making it seem worse than it is, made me realize the more unfortunate side of this.

hope you all realize that rape is in the context of consenting RP or simply in the context of written/drawn erotica and the dude isnt randomly saying "i like rape"

but fair enough if thats still a big deal to you, i get it

I mean yes, but its still gonna sound reeeeaaal bad to the public

I mean probably, but it's still a bit problematic and unnerving.

That description of furries in that article is kinda gross...

Tony the Tiger?

Please, people rarely portray themselves as copywritten characters.

They just draw porn of then.

Ok. The way its worded in the quote sounds really, really bad though

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
well, atleast it wasn't hurting anyone. and let people have their fantasy kinks....thats not even close to the weirdest stuff i've heard of

*edit* the rape part is referring to his supposed RP sessions with other members of said site and fanfic requests, not actual IRL rape between actual people

Its 2017

How the fuck do people in political offices or in corporate places not do a better job of covering their internet tracks? FFS

I feel like the rape part is more important than the kink part.

I'm almost 100% certain that the rape mention is "here are some kinks, this I can deal with (if we're RPing or you have fanfic requests)" and not an indication of his tolerance for actual, real life rape.

Edit: That said it still sounds hella bad, even as someone who also enjoys non-consent fantasies, and is the reason you should always have different emails and usernames than any of your family/friends know if you have accounts on a website where it'll be apparent what your fetishes are.

Its 2017, you should know you can't!

This I will agree with

Thats unfortunate. I dont think something like this should matter.

Rape fantasy's are quite common, no? On both sides. I've met a few women who have them, at least.

Or does his comment suggest something further from fantasy?

RPing rape or acts like it is not exclusive to the furry community by any means.
I know that I’m just asking if it is more of a common thing. I couldn’t tell if it was or not with the way the story presented it.
would say that rape is an incredibly common thing in fictional sex regardless of being furry or not
I guess I had no idea rape role playing was a common thing.
Its pretty common, especially in BDSM communities. Probably one of the most common. But there is a hard line of consent and understanding there that is probably missed with the quote in the OP which comes off awful
I guess something common in one community like furries or BDSM doesn’t mean it is common at large since those communities aren’t very large to begin with. I guess that was my original question.

I mean is he condoning rape or is he just one of those people with a rape fantasy? If it's the latter, I really don't see what the problem is. This was his personal sex life that got outed, and for that I feel sorry for him.

Bold part is worded to diminish context of his words on rape. Not that that makes him look much better given his career.

Assuming other aspects of his life aren't terrible, shame he resigns for what he enjoys. Person who outed him is a dick.

Just a furry, who cares?

Chamberlain's profile showed he liked to be called Gray Muzzle the fox and was happy to divulge his sexual likes and dislikes even saying he ‘tolerated' rape.

Fucking oh. Alright then.

Why is it so hard to not be an asshole? Seriously. And no, I don't think RPing rape is okay either. It helps normalize it.

I dont see that. I read it differently. Its seem like he is willing to tolerate another persons rape fantasy on him, or him as the aggresor.

Yikes, I'm gonna take a look at his pages and see what's actually there. Mainstream articles always take shit out of context.
