Project Octopath Traveler on Switch 2018, demo on eShop [Up: Surveys sent out]

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
Man, this game has good writing.

Yeah even the english voice acting is pretty good, i was going to instantly switch to japanese but damn english doesn't sound bad at all.

Leagues ahead of BOTW, which is pretty sad.

When can we give feedback?

Feels like there's a tiny bit of slowness when choosing options in UI and the shop/equip isn't very clean. I don't know if it's possible but I want some of the QoL features of Bravely Default, like Battle Speed setting, auto battle and encounter rate setting. But maybe Octopath wasn't as grindy as leveling classes in BD so they don't include it.

Other than that the demo is fucking amazing.

I guess right now post at their fb or twitter

can't remember if there's a proper feedback questionnaire for bravely default few years ago

I wasn't expecting much from the demo going in, but came out crazy impressed. I got a tactics/saga vibe from it, the music is fantastic, writing is good. I hope battles become more varied with a larger amount of skills and tactics to use. Love the idea of 8 stories if they remain even remotely this high in quality. Def looking forward to release.

It seems extremely likely it's going to be $50 plus. I'm expecting a full blown jrpg here with something like 80 hours of gameplay. I could be wrong but that's the precedent from Bravely Default, etc.

If it's 80 plus hours then I'm fine paying $60 for the game. I honestly just thought the game would be 20-30 hours like I Am Setsuna which was $40.

Did Primrose's part of the demo up through fighting the boss of her prologue. I was already curious about this in its first reveal but it's definitely a high point on my radar now. It really feels like a game that was conceived back in the SNES/PS1 JRPG heyday, pulled up into modern times and blessed with some deceptively modern effects and a bit more grit to the storyline than what you'd get out of those classics.

For instance, the very nature of Prim's situation in the opening and its implications, as well as
the performance of his death-gurgles and such after she slashes his throat
, it adds a different sense of realism and weight that most classic-style RPGs don't touch. Not sure how long the main campaign will be but having all eight characters with their own storyline quirks to work through will surely make for some replay value. I'm in!

I only played a little and I absolutely love it so I don't know if I'll play more. Does anyone know if these are how the scenarios will begin in the regular game or if they are just separate for the demo? Only played the warrior and the story intro makes it seem like this is how it will start in the final game as well.

lol the website is updated again. this time the art isn't separated lol actually the one previously is from /sp/ site

They said during the Nintendo Direct that they'd be releasing a survey.

oh cool

There's a couple games I've really wanted to get a Switch to play, but this might be the one that finally pushes me to do it.

Went through Prim's scenario earlier. This game is definitely on my radar for sure. Is there much to do after the boss or would I be better spending my time going to the next scenario?

Finished both demo story... I want more!
It's shaping up to be a petty nice game, I liked Primrose's bit more too.
Again, I reiterate: they should remake Final Fantasy VI like that.
This is exactly what I suggested in the other thread, loving that artstyle.

This looked really good, but I'm going to be highly disappointed if they change the title. Yeah, it's stupid, but it's so goddamn stupid that I want that title to actually exist in the world.

This has gone way up on my list. Was always a fan of the art style early on but playing the demo gave me this next gen nostalgia feeling.

"Welcome to Gamestop, what can I do for you today?"

"Hello, I would like to preorder Project Octopath Traveller Working Title please."

"Would you like the Project Octopath Traveller Working Title Regular Edition or the Project Octopath Traveller Working Title Collector's Edition?"

"The Project Octopath Traveller Working Title Regular Edition please."

"Thank you, that copy of Project Octopath Traveller Working Title will be $60."

Been enjoying it, although the English VO isn't doing it for me (crívens!!).

Shop UI is pretty clunky, along with some of the in battle pacing that feels like it could be faster. Also I really dislike blind random encounters (in all games), wish there was an indication in the overworld of enemies in the area.

Looking forward to playing more though, definitely shows promise.

I like it. It's gorgeous, music is terrific (love that it's all live instrumentation) and the writing hasn't made me cringe yet. The only thing that makes me wary is that the battles take forever. The enemies have more HP than I consider ideal and it's killing the pacing.

Are you making full use of boost? I was talking to duckroll about this earlier. He had the same opinion, but didn't realize you can boost multiple times in one turn.

boost for normal atk = multihit
boost for abilities= level up
seems if enemy have weakness for weapon, probably can easily breaklock them lol especially who knows if there's skill that increase character boost point outside normal turn count

This game is soooo good, the music is on point, the mood is on point, graphics are interesting and fresh, the writing is actually good...looks like they nailed it so far.
Not to mention the fact that reminds me a lot of SaGa series and FFVI (mood wise).

But, the UI looks so tiny on handheld mode, like when you press help to see what each item does the letters are soooo tiny, they need to fix that and they really need to fix the menu scrolling speed too, really slow.

Also they grey menu items in battle made me think everything but attack was locked. Totally thought the game was tutorializing for a lot longer than it actually was, lol

This is a meaty demo. I thought it would end when I defeated Gaston but I guess not, I'll have to finish tomorrow. I need to try the dancer character too.

I haven't played a jrpg in a while but I think I could get into this.

Yeah, a more liberal use of boosts and especially the abilities has helped a lot. I was worried about running out of ability points but you level up fast enough to where that hasn't been a concern yet.

Beat Olberic's intro and man, am I sold. Bravely Default's story felt very run of the mill but this has some heavy stuff in it. And the writing and voice acting is good.

I love that the battles are an evolution of BD, too. Fixed the brave boost stuff by removing the punishing aspects of it. And it feels great to boost up a huge skill.

This game. This feels like the stars fucking aligning into something special.

Also, Olberic is voiced by Patrick Seitz, who also did Arthas in WoW. Knew I recognized him

Alright so I'm loving the writing, aesthetic, and even the gameplay, but I literally can't kill any of the enemies. Am I doing something wrong? I can get them to "break" but then I keep attacking and nothing happens. I'm on the battle with Primrose's creepy master and I die after 2 turns without making a dent. Can someone explain what I'm missing/doing wrong?
