I think about graphics when playing DOOM about as much as I think about graphics when playing Pac-Man, which is to say not at all since the gameplay is so damn good.

This port looks pretty solid, though. I'll be interested to hear the hands-on impressions.

Also, when dat music kicks in

Question for people that have already played the game. Would you recommend DOOM to someone that usually doesn't like or enjoy FPSes? Been a long time since one has gelled with me but I'd like to support Bethesda's efforts. And the fact that the multiplayer is an optional download is a huge plus to me personally, not a fan of FPS multiplayer at all.

You don't enjoy FPSes by which reasons? If it's by the camera perspective itself, i wouldn't recommend it. The story is far from memorable too.

The game truly shines on the gameplay department, it just feels great to shoot, dodge and jump. The combat and boss fights are really fun.

Skyrim looks great because the system is powerful enough to run a 2011 game at what most would consider high/maximum fidelity. Doom, on the other hand, will always be compromised in some ways. Run Doom and Skyrim on the same computer and you'll see that one runs much better than the other.

Yeah, DooM runs better.

I really enjoyed DOOM. It's a fast paced shooter with some platforming, good level design and tight controls.

One thing for sure is the game is going to sell well on the switch. Probably better than it did on the other platforms. (Not in total sales, just user ratio)

The game bombed on console didn't it? It was $20 after 2 months.

I remember as soon as I started controlling DOOM, I paused and said to no one in particular: "Dis gun be gud." Some games just have that special something.

Whaaa? I'm sure DOOM sold fine on other consoles.

Also, pretty much every game is $20 after two months on other consoles.

What? no, the game was a top seller for months and I'm pretty sure it was semi announced Id was working on a sequel.

I wanted to buy this on PS4 in the near future but portable option may be perfect for me. I'm considering spending more to get this version now ..

I haven't been into singleplayer FPS in a long time, but Doom completely blew me away. What I really love about it is that the combat is so frenetically-paced and requires you to constantly move around to stay alive. It almost kind of reminds me of a character action game (especially since it encourages to often get into melee range - the melee executions remind me of obliteration techniques in Ninja Gaiden 2), only with FPS mechanics.

Doom actually got me to try FPS games again. Currently playing through Wolfenstein New Order and Metro 2033 thanks to it.

It's nice to have DOOM on the Switch , won't get it since played it on PS4 but it's a great game and this is what I wanted on a Nintendo console , real support from other developers.

Skyrim is the reason I will get a Switch but now also will get Wolfstein on Switch in order to support Bethesda so they finally bring Fallout 4 and Dishonored.

This direct was way better than Nintendo's E3

Does Doom keep going like Wolfenstein The New Order? I liked that game but at some point I stopped playing because it was dragging.
Now if we're talking about something more similar to Titanfall 2 sp, that would be great.

It's not like Titanfall but far better than Wolfstein , I fact better than Titanfall. Is fluid, great action but also strategy in the way you use weapons and power ups, the games has a nice mixt of slow and fast moments , a bit of exploration if you want to get the bonus that is really fun, but the core gameplay is the best on years. Well balance difficulty and some difficult boss fights.

It's insane how many people plan to double dip on DOOM and Skyrim just because they are now playable on a portable system.

Turns out there was a market for console games on the go after all, we haven't had a strong enough handheld for console game experience since the PSP honestly. The Vita was already too weak when it launched, also the support was just bad. The PSP was an enhanced PS1 in the PS2 era that got quite a few interesting console like experiences, yet it was beaten by the NDS by a huge margin in sales.

The Switch is doing well enough performance wise to get Wolfenstein and DOOM it seems and it's in between PS3 and PS4 in terms of power, which is quite the accomplishment for a portable system, it's probably the most powerful one ever, compared to what's available on consoles. -Well that might not be true, the GameGear might take that spot.

This may be a tad off topic but as a Nintendo stockholder and an avid follower of the stock patterns, it's very interesting to me that NTDOY is rising heavily after opening today in NA, when it is almost always the opposite that happens. Most of the time the stock will rise (or fall) when the Asian markets are open, and then basically stay at that same level when the Western market opens or usually even drop off a bit (like 0.1-0.2%).

But today it seems a big number of Western investors are buying more stock, which almost never happens during US market hours. And I'm pretty sure that's solely due to Bethesda with these announcements.

If Skyrim and DOOM sell well (and they will), this is going to be a big turning point for third parties on Switch, methinks.

A part of my soul believes R* is already taking a look at how good Switch runs GTA5.

Once that one comes I know Nintendo has made it.

Forgive me if old, but didn't see this going through the last few pages. Physical version is single player only on cart with multiplayer as a free download. All DLC included:

"Bethesda told Engadget that the Switch port of Doom will have all the updates and DLC released for the original game except for the SnapMap level editor. It's also worth noting that the physical version of the game will only include the single-player campaign on the game card due to size constraints -- to play online multiplayer, users will need to download a free update. Naturally, users that choose digital-only copies will get the whole package in one go."

it's just super awesome to play skyrim or doom on a plane or train.

or during breaks at work/school

Not sure why your post made me think of Green Eggs and Ham...

I like Bethesda games on Switch!
I do! I like them, Sam-I-am!
And I would play them in a boat!
And I would play them with a goat.
And I will play them in the rain.
And in the dark. And on a train.
And in a car. And in a tree.
They are so good so good you see!

So I will play them in a box.
And I will play them with a fox.
And I will play them in a house.
And I will play them with a mouse.
And I will play them here and there.
Say! I will play them anywhere!

Or in bed/toilet/on the porch/etc not tethered to a single spot in the house in front of a TV/PC.

I think polls have shown that most people play Switch in portable mode at home. The benefits of portability extend inside the home too.

I have been trying to justify buying a Switch all summer. Now I'm going to pick up one in the next month along with Oddysey, Skyrim and Doom whenever they come out.

So good.

first thing a friend of mine with two children said.. "i can play doom or skyrim on the toilet or in the bathtub!!" lol

got a good chuckle out of me

FFFF- you got me good there. Well played.

... Does it really though? I know id are masters of optimization and Bethesda sucks at it, but still.

Skyrim unmodded runs around a 100 on my PC, Doom with Vulkan at around a 130 to 150 on Ultra.

Doom is the single most impressive game I've played on PC in years in that regard.

Switch will run GTA5 significantly better than it ran on 360/PS3.

My guess is the only thing potentially holding back the game from coming to Switch at this point is GTA Online.

I was just watching the Direct. Whoa. Now that's what I call a surprise! Never ever expected that. Guess it will not look that great, how could it, but hey man, portable! That's some cool stuff right there!

Dang. All I knew was that Doom used to run like crap on my desktop before I changed my GPU (a Radeon HD6870 with a whopping 1GB of VRAM!).

Haha I have to watch this video.

Having such a "gameplay first" emphasis, I'd have to agree. It's like how Platinum and Nintendo became such good buddies because their studio had a similar take to game development with fun gameplay taking priority.

If there was one Western FPS that Metroid Prime 4 should take inspiration from, it's DOOM way more than most FPS that I can even think of.

Aside from the whole ultraviolence thing.

Most of the guns he used are OTT enough that they'd fit in well, better than Snake even. Only problems I'd see would be in a potential stage needing to show all the gore and scary designs of the demons to be authentic and the obvious chainsaw/gory kills.

But Sakurai and the Smash team have made much more oddly fitting characters work really well so I wouldn't rule it out or be against it.

Yes, portable is the killer app for these versions. id could pull off some magic, or at least send some help over to ensure the ports are up to their usual sky-high standards.
