August 2017 NPD (U.S. Hardware) Predictions - Closes Tuesday, September 5th

I expected TLL to be #1. Guess it wasn't so great of a debut?

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy entered the chart as the third best-selling game of the month. This position includes only sales of the standalone software, not sales of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy that were included as part of the Uncharted 4 Digital Deluxe Edition, or as part of the Uncharted 4 Explorer's Pack.

how could you expect a $40 single platform exclusive "standalone expansion" to be #1 over Madden?
note this chart is based on revenue...

Also it was available for free for dlc pass owners, which probably took away some percentage as well.
for real? yeah so a part of the hardcore UC fanbase already got the game for free

p.s.
#3 is still very good, tho

The number of season pass owners ain't gonna be that high

How do you know.

The triple pack cost 25 dollars before the price hike and ND let people know that. I'm sure quite a few people bought that as well.

Again #3 on that list is very good especially based on revenue of a game that's $40.

It really is.
Hey Mat, thanks for being here to answer questions! How difficult did you find it to make a prediction for Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, seeing as the game would be free for a subsequent of Uncharted IV owners? I doubt there was much precedent to base a prediction on.

Zelda continues to stay at top 5.

In fact I thinks its been at 5th for a while. Wonder if they can reach 10 million WW.

Also, I didn't realize Madden released.

when can we expect the platform specific charts to come?

Forza Horizon 3 has been gaining ground it looks like. Sales picking up that much before Forza 7 or are the higher priced editions being bought more?

GTA V never ceases to amaze me. Second for the month after years of sales. Also looking at those platform specific charts Switch seems to have rather sharp drop in software sales after top 3. Zelda fifth in all formats chart and ARMS not even in top 20 while in platform specific charts it's just after Zelda.

Huh, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is above Zelda in individual chart but below it in the general chart. Is the Wii U SKU putting in work or is the difference in sales that small between the two games on Switch?

thanks so much

now i see Forza Horizon at #5 Xbox One chart is #17 overall, while MLB at #6 on Ps4 is not in the top 20 at all
and that is totally contrary to May, where Forza Horizon at #6 on Xbox One was nowhere in the top 20 overall, but Farpoint at #7 on Ps4 charted #16 overall
conclusion: platform specific chart positions can not be used at all to gauge overall sales and performance. to much unknown

But that would suggest Mario Kart 8 should be above Zelda in the general top 20, which it isn't.

Zelda has a Wii U version as well.

Watching Mat's video (great work)

Hey thanks! That was way harder to put together than I thought, and took way longer to record, and I still have a bit of a corporate drone thing going. Seriously, I have a completely new found respect for people that put together videos for a living.

Watching Mat's video (great work) and got to the Top 20 part and I just noticed Infinite Warfare is nowhere to be seen.

Maybe 2016 should have just been Modern Warfare Remastered.

Right, so that would suggest that the Zelda Wii U version is putting in some decent legwork in support of the total number for BOTW, then. Either that, or the difference MK8D Switch - BOTW Switch is very small and as a result the WiiU version of BOTW needs to outsell the MK8 Wii U version by a small bit as well ( although, judging by the fact that there's another game between the two in the top 20, I think BOTW WiiU will have needed to do decently in order to bridge the gap).

In what may have been a serious mistake, I've recorded a video talking about all of August's highlights as well as a look ahead to September.

It's a bit dry, has a lot of charts and is written in the language of corporate America, otherwise known as PowerPoint.
very informative and easy to understand. good listening

most interesting take for me:
the resurge of the racing genre.
and the year is not even done yet with Forza Motorsport 7, Gran Turismo Sport, Project Cars 2 and Need for Speed: Payback still coming out

Yeah it looks easy enough at first and then it hits you. Just have to get into the groove of things.

And say the required phrase at the end of any YouTube video.

Will digital for The Lost Legacy include people who got it through the expansion pass, or does PSN not break that info out? I usually go physical, or digital for discounts down the line, but the Best Buy $27 deal a few months ago was unbeatable.

It does not. It only includes retail and regular digital no season pass.
