The port's perfectly fine. The only bad part is the mobile-derived UI. Beyond that, it runs great, battles load faster, and they touched up all of the primary characters' models, who now feature a ton of details.

Seriously. Some people are such nutjobs over their hatred of VIII. I'm happy IX fans are getting their game, I just also hope we get to see VIII.
Hell no this Port is amazing. Bar some ui issues due to it being a mobile game. Its by far the best version.

It was mentioned earlier in the thread that the legalities of using Eyes On Me might be why VIII is taking so much longer.
It being re-released could be a good thing, but it could also be why they're side-stepping VIII for the time being.
Total speculation here, mind you. I'd love all three of the PS FFs to be on the same platform again.

The UI is ugly and intrusive to the point that it negates my enjoyment of the other things you listed.
I can see that being an issue. But it's only the battle UI that's an issue. All the other UI touchups are beautiful. All I'm saying is that leaves 75% the game looking incredible.

I played FF7 for the first time on the PS4, and the low quality background were too much of an eyesore to me, sorry.

Good thing IX's backgrounds are absolute masterpieces then, no?
Pre-rendered background's to all the PSX FFs are wonderful. It doesn't stop them from turning into more of a mess the further the resolution is ramped up from their native 320p.

Backgrounds aren't the problem. The character models trying to poke your eyes out with their razor edges was. Thankfully, that's not a concern with 9.

My one gripe is that there's no analogue movement with the left stick. The FFVII port added it no problem, but for this game you have to go into options and set it either to walk or run permanently....or just hold down circle while walking.
