Media Create Sales: Week 36, 2017 (Sep 04 - Sep 10)

I know most of you don't really care but Nintendo Switch is finally coming to Korea on december 1st!!!

So happy that I can finally play console Nintendo games on my own language

You guys got one of the coolest things:

gsga4a8c921bc6ac6p1n3bkj3x.jpg

An official Nintendo-published Sonic game (in one region anyway).

I'm JEALOUS! :p

Is it safe to say that most Japanese third parties thought the Switch would fail with the exception of maybe Square Enix?

especially capcom lol

Tbh I can see why most would think so, but damn I knew it would be successful from the first reveal.

Yeah it's pretty obvious the success caught them by surprise. The overall support has still been piss poor given the only other viable system was the PS4 for the domestic market.

Korea isn't that big of a market, but for Nintendo to officially release a product in December signs that they're confident they'll be able to supply enough units.

System is priced fairly well there too, about $320.

Wii U only ever got released in Japan as far as East Asia is concerned, Switch is already out in Hong Kong, soon Korea and Taiwan, and you can bet its coming to China fairly soon too.

what about launch games?any notable launch game aside from zelda?

Zelda's not one of the launch games lol

Launch titles include SMO, 1-2 Switch, Disgaea 5, Skyrim, MH XX, USF2, Bomberman R, Puyo Puyo Tetris, Sonic Forces, Fate Extella, Xenoblade 2 and Wonderboy.

Its in the link he posted.

Edit: lol Korea gets MHXX for Switch while the west doesn't.

It's Japanese copy with Korean stickers on it lol

Imagine if Japan and NA got the same launch games as that line up.It would be epic af lol

Whether they thought it would fail or not, it's the successor to the market leader. It had the potential to be successful and third parties should have helped make that happen.

Luckily, Nintendo managed to do that almost all on their own, but if the system had gotten off to a bad start, they would in large part be to blame. Imagine if Western third parties adopted a wait-and-see approach with the PS5 because the Vita was a massive flop. That's on the same level of foolishness.

I wonder how big of a market it is though. Train to Busan should have been called Nintendo's Train to Busan because the product placement was so in your face. Made me wonder how they're doing in that market.

Can you read Japanese?

It seems weird to launch a game not in an official language.
It's not odd really, Nintendo released plenty of their games in Asia in Japanese, though they've been changing lately. Not an uncommon practice for other companies, figure they think the people intested in the game isn't large enough for a localization or something.

Price in Taiwan is more or less the same as Korea, though they get Splatoon, Mario Kart and Fire Emblem as launch titles too

Both Taiwan and Korea are getting Skyrim before Japan.

Don't worry. First party titles like Xenoblade 2 is not localized as well! Hype!

The Switch itself doesn't support Korean!

Well you speak english well so I assume you are getting the english language localization? If a large portion of a population can speak another more common language it makes sense that they would recieve that localization. But it seems weird that they would just repackaged a japanese version unless a good portion of Korea and Taiwan speak japanese. That's mainly why I'm asking.

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
There's apparently contractual obligations with Sony:

Source.

They had to make a phantom Company just to be able to make the CC games for the GC. I'm preparing a thread about the issue.

Would that be fine, @Nirolak?

iirc sony did sell the rest of their stock back to square but this was like last year

It is pretty cool even abstracted from being there and wanting it there. So is the supposedly coming foray into China. Nintendo needs to try and have a presence in more places.

It is also just cool that you get to do that, stepping outside the sales-thread vision.

I feel like this isn't something you can just hand-wavingly say. The logistical and legal barriers to overcome are totally different here. And wouldn't they need to set up a branch here first? (Happy to be corrected on that last point)

I'll believe it when I see it. For what it's worth - you know how people say "consoles, and increasingly handhelds, are becoming unfeasible in Japan because most people just don't have time/space to play at home, and aren't willing to carry a dedicated handheld"? I feel like... that... x10 regarding mainland China.

They had iQue, but now it's absorbed into Nintendo Hong Kong.

Nintendo would have to partner with a Chinese company to be able to release Switch in China just like any other foreign company that isn't local to China.

It's basically a form of protectionism to prevent money leaving China.

Yeah, we'll see how that all goes. If PS4 has a hard time with Dynasty Warriors bundles, I dread to think of the muk Nintendo's going to be in for, Tencent partnership or not.

AoV bundle is much more powerful vs DW in China lol.

Hell, if Nintendo wanted to grab Chinese gaming attention, making sure that many chinese online pc game is also released on Switch is going to be more powerful move.

The assumption seems to be that Nintendo and Tencent working together to get Arena of Valor on Switch is a means to get their foot in the door on the mainland. As you say, they either need a branch or a domestic partner firm (such as Tencent) for anything to be feasible, and even then game approval for dedicated platforms (not PCs or smartphones) is some fierce stuff.

This is part of the reason why even though PS4 and Xbox One have been out in China for a few years now, that hasn't launched either one into the stars. Though within that Sony is still doing the better of the two, as one might expect.

It's a free-to-play game in China, what sort of 'bundle' are you even imagining? And I have said this in the other thread, but if that Switch port is going to move any kind of needle at all, it needs to be Honour of Kings (at least in Asia) and provide crossplay with the mobile version. If it's not got either, it's almost less than worthless.

Crossplay with mobile is a must of course. Without those, you can guaranteed that this is a useless port.

Actually getting Crossfire too is also a good thing if Nintendo can. As it is easily the most popular fps in China. Making a bundle with like 20 bucks gacha/game point for the certain game should be appealing enough.

lol no. CF won't do shit. Console gamers despise it. Casual gamers can play it on cheaper laptops.

ever wonder why MHW E3 trailer has so many views? the Likes and Comments for that video doesn't even come together... I thought this was wildly spread?

one of the sources
https://www.reddit.com/r/MonsterHun...ver_wonder_why_the_views_for_mhworld_trailer/

We are not talking about the same trailer :)

The one with those crazy 8 millions views used for commercials during E3 is on the official MH channel. The one on the japanese Capcom channel broke 3 millions views because japanese are seemingly very excited about the game.

so Chinese gamers can only get games with Japanese text only? and is that how it has always been?

I remember I had a pair of friends from Taiwan that had buttloads of pirated PS1 games in japanese back in the early 2000's and they wanted to play Square rpgs... it was such a pain in the ass, they said they could understand every other word or phrase in the text so the help from NPCs was a riddle in itself.

I thought there were real chinese games and that they were putting up with the japanese cause the games were pirated.

Interesting tidbit that was mentioned elsewhere but Atelier Liddy & Souer(still don't know how to spell it) appeared in the Nintendo Direct but not in Sony's conference, unless I somehow missed it. It was also the first footage of the game released.

I know it's been mentioned that it was in Sony conference, but I've seen this posted a couple of times before now too. Any reason it's such a big deal? Surely Switch owners are the userbase Gust has to try and get on board with this game since PS4/Vita owners either will or won't be on board with it at this point, regardless of 5 seconds of footage.

Many PlayStation games released in Asia have Chinese language versions. SIE Asia have been localizing games for the Asian market for some time now.

Speaking of South Korea...

https://youtu.be/S9hqoN1svfo

Nintendo used to do a lot of ads with high profile celebs. They were swimming in money back in the Wii and DS days lol.

https://youtu.be/jq9BjVlxsvo

Can you imagine how much money they paid to have Beyonce on their ads? >.< She probably only accepted the job because of her nephew Julez.

I wonder if Nintendo will make more ads with celebs. Seems like a huge waste of money but who knows.

They never stopped, Mario&Luigi RPG1 DX just got a few advertisements staring Tsukitei Hosei, a popular comedian.

Not sure about other countries, but celebrities advertising things is the norm in Japan, so much so that it is weird to see commercials with people who are not recognizable.

After the Sony TGS conference I am convinced that the Switch's future as a serious console competitor in the third party space in Japan is gone. It will mostly get portable tier support from the big JP pubs, while console titles will remain PS4/PC.

Did we watch the same conference, cause I don't think I can recall anything that really stood out.

edit: did I just get duckrolled?
