Did anyone notice little shiny orbs to collect in the stream or trailers?

No shiny collectible orbs, no buy.
There's none. It has been replaced with specific points where you collect several items at once (~4 ?).

But if you like to collect stuff on the floor, now the enemies drop their items directly on the field ; ).

Great thread Waji, couldn't say it earlier but I read through all of it and it was very informative. Reminds me of your blog in the Xenoblade X days.

Well I'm still having one, not as mad as back then though ha ha. I quickly wrote an article around the battle system and was wondering if I'd do this on the blog or here. For now here but I might do both at some point.

I hope we get our wednesday tweet every week : P.

Two of the changes I don't like. I wish all the "press A to collect/pick up" designs don't have animation, like botw. Loot dropping looks less convenient than XB and XB2, should increase the pick up radius to several feet.

Huh ? You don't need to press A. You just run on it if you want to get it.
This is A LOT faster than in the previous games.

I'm not sure I understand your problem. The only thing I see is that you can't know what you get before (except if there's an option for it).
But in Xenoblade you could keep almost everything, it was easy to chose what would be useful or not, so if they organise the inventory in a better way, should be nice.
Just remember how long it was in both Xenoblade to check everything you get after every battles. You could have dozens of chests to go through in X.

One thing I'm talking about are those collectible points, walk next to it, press A, Rex collecting animation, and you still need to pick up everything.

The other is enemies dropping 2~3 loots after beaten, unlike XB there's only one box , now you need to run in circles to collect all the loots.

Ah ok. Well... I'm still not sure there's really a problem.

1) The collectible points are easier to spot and remember the location. You need a fish, you check the pond...
In Xenoblade, whichever one, there's not much to help.

2) Running what... 1 second in circle is still at worst the same as getting the contents of a chest as fast as possible, maybe even faster.

Overall I think we win from it but we have to see more to know exactly how everything work before.
But I guess I could understand someone who prefers to deal with every chests in the old way. I'm ok with that. But got tired of it with X especially.

I'm actually curious about how this works in practice. There's actually a small bit of decent level design that utilizes this having to harvest and gather up the items looting. They placed a looting site right next to an aggressive Unique Monster with a knockback mechanic, which makes it more difficult to run away from while getting the items. Collecting items in Xenoblade was sometimes a bit too trivial in regards to the level design, as scary as the Cliffside Bayern was to 90% of players, imagine if you actually had to stick around just that bit longer.

Plus I think this fewer sites, but get more items from each site and the site is a more distinct place in the area is a general improvement going forward from XC and XCX.

As for the loot scattering from enemies. I wonder if they despawn because if they do this has a couple consequences, it promotes moving around in combat to collect items, which allows the enemy to do more things and creates a minor sub-objective in the middle of the fight making fights with multiple enemies more dynamic. And it encourages ending fights with multiple enemies as quickly as possible rather than stalling for time. More rarely, it can encourage not defeating enemies one at a time, especially if Spikes are back as a gameplay mechanic.

Also on a side note, one thing I was worried about but just noticed in the treehouse was the AI being unable to Switch Blades and thus not have access to the full arts pallette which would be a major flaw. But an AI Rex was able to do this just fine.

The explanation is really simple. They both have only 1 Blade. You can see that with Nia when he controls her. Only the tiger is set.
That's also another reason why the guy didn't showcase the battles right. He just repeatedly use arts as soon as he got one and barely switch Blades plus he didn't try to give any to the other characters (Nia at least).
Maybe he coudln't for some reason also. But overal it was prooly demonstrated and only people who analysed saw how how deep it really could be.

For long form games, it can be difficult to present it in a neat format unless you've got an area like the great plateau from BoTW. For this game I imagine that there's going to be a bit more tutorializing this time around but given that there's so much going on and the length of time that a player can play for in Xenoblade games without interruptions is very significant, this should be fine. But this makes it more difficult to explictly show something more interesting or showcasing game mechanics though the UI does a good enough job of presenting itself it seems. For better or worse, there's a lot of surprises in store as Takahashi has said.

On a side note, It still amuses me that the battle designer for these games is still the same battle system designer behind Chrono Trigger and all the influences that came with that are still around. Makes tracing the lineage more fun.

I agree with you.

I'm currently watching the treehouse on the switch and it feels even better than I thought. Plus there are far more surprise hidden than people imagine I'm sure.

They're really still teasing it little by little. Next "event" will make a big difference. Even if some details might be explained before.

Monolithsoft really need to polish that title proper. Some of the animations of the main characters are just rough. For instance, the running animation of the blade girl companion (sorry, cannot recall her name) has frames where the thighs intersect the garments (read: pants) and it's just jarring when she keeps running around the camera with such an anatomical defect.

It's another playthrough of the E3 Demo with some more translation tweaks it seems, pretty much all of which I like more than what came previously.

There's not much more to add here. The boss looked enjoyable as expected, the weapon variety looked nice and there seemed to be some pretty decent strategy in timing everything and managing the situation in real time. I like a lot of the visual cues in this game. From the circles around the blade arts to show what level they are, the power line between driver and blade. It feels generally more elegant than previous entries.

Wow nice find. Probably the only reason for me to go to the Japan Expo but I have no idea Xenoblade 2 would be showcased.
Even then it would have been hard to go.
I'm French so it's pretty convenient.

It's interesting to see that the first enemy again, drops a crystal.
Blades are indeed coming with different stats (for random ones),
He confirmed story Blades / "random" ones.

The demo is pretty limited to specifics. I'm sure we'll get a new Nintendo Direct or something soon that will unlock more stuff to be discussed on twitter/website...

Me:

Xenoblade 1 = Super Hyped

Xenoblade X = Crazy Hyped

Xenoblade 2 = Meh, I wanted X2

I have been feeling really weird about this game, maybe this is the one that will finally sell millions and I don't even care for it right now

Well that can be attributed to a couple of things I think.

Xenoblade is a known quantity, we basically know it's going to be good at the very least. While consistency can be exciting, the feeling of a property coming out of nowhere and surprising everyone with its quality and feel is probably not going to be replicated by this series for a while.

It presents itself as less mature than previous entries, while we've yet to see whether Rex bears resemblance to Shulk in the level of maturity, the general atmosphere seems less gritty than in previous entries.

There's not really a hook outside the collecting aspect of the Blades (which I personally like because injecting a level of randomess in consistently long form games makes them more interesting since speedrunning them to me has less value in general) like there was with the future sight and powers of the Monado or the grandiose nature of the Skells and their tranformation.

Apathy is definitely a reasonable feeling but I do think that the game has yet to properly throw its punches and blow us off our feet.

Dunno if it's the best thread for that, but Xenoblade just got rated on Australia Rating Board.

Seems like it's well on track for this year.

Noooo, I really don't want to buy a Switch, but it's Xenoblade!

I work for a publisher and have submitted age ratings myself before. You can bet that this is coming this year!

ACB ratings can go up pretty early though, as it's a government agency so they list the ratings as soon as they're finalised, not like the ESRB/PEGI where some things seem to get held back.

Mature in Australia would be what in other regions? and what was 1 and X ratings there?

An M in Australia is generally equivalent to a PEGI 12/16 and an ESRB T, so par for the course with JRPG's.

Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles X were also M ratings down under.

No sex or drug use? Wtf, game is gonna suck.

Glad it's still on track. I need to use my switch for something.

I find it weird that both Xenoblade 3D and Xenoblade X have Fantasy Violence under Consumer Advice while Xenoblade 2 has Mature Themes and Violence because the actual individual ratings for X and 2 are identical with 1 quite a bit less. Also if anything Xenoblade 2 is more fantastical violence compared to Xenoblade X with had guns as standard weaponry. I would chalk it up to then using different language 2 years later.

I guess the screenshot sharing is enough for them to talk about online interactivity.

Interesting that X and 2 get the same result.

Hope for the Twitter & stuff to come back after Gamescom/soonish-Direct/Summer vacation.

Nia probably has my favorite design in the party. According to the website, she's also filling the role not dissimilar to Reyn it seems which is promising.

Yeah, Nia has always been one of the better designs in the game. I hope she's fun to play as and has good characterization. Lots of potential in her.

Is this character also one of Saito's designes? She looks good, and translates well into 3D, too. Upon seeing her, though, I can only think of her speaking like Minette Napkatti from Bravely Second.

Great design. What does it say about this character?

"Here's one of Rex's good friends, the Driver named Nia! Here's a little tidbit about her ears... Those ears you see above her hair? Seems like they're her real ears! Hmm? You already knew that? S-sorry..."

- According to some 4chan user.

"The boyish wise-cracker of the group.
A good banter buddy of Rex's."

- According to Gessenkou/CAAAAAAAAAAAW's translation of her bio on the website.
