It's October, which means two things. Walking Dead and New York Comic Con is here!

  • Artist Alley is in 1E
The North Pavilion was torn down to make way for the new Javits expansion. So they moved Artist Alley to 1E, which is roughly half the size, but they only lost 50-75 tables. It's gonna be cramped. Get used to it, because the new expansion isn't set to open until 2021.
  • Pre-Show Lotteries:
They've lumped all their pre-show lotteries into one system this year. In addition to certain exclusives and autograph signings, you can now try to reserve a spot for Main Stage panels and screenings. Lottery entry ends Monday, 9/25, at 5pm EST. If you don't win a seat for a panel, you can still try and line up for it in the morning in 1C.
  • Show Specials | Shop the Floor:
Two new sections on the NYCC site. It's basically a preview of some of the items and sales on the floor.
  • NYCC created their own OP.

We've all been crunched for time and had to get something quick at the Javits. Preferably, you'd find some alternatives...
Food Trucks: They'll be around and the quality is better than what's inside, BUT they do have to negotiate their pricing with the Javits so it might be pricier than you're accustomed to.
Old Country Coffee: Good sandwiches and a nice alternative to the Starbucks in the Javits.
Gotham West Market: A lot of different venues. Good food.
Daisy May's BBQ: A bit of a trek but it's good BBQ... just don't get the brisket.
Skylight Diner: Decent diner.
Pio Pio: Good Peruvian food.
Food Depot Gourmet Deli/Food Fair Deli & Pizza: Place you can stock up on snacks/water. Maybe get a breakfast sandwich to go.

I've appropriately developed the N.E.G.A.N. system to help you get through the con.
N – Neutralize bacteria. Bathe. Use deodorant.
E – Evaluate the schedule. Plan what you want to do.
G – Gear up! Bring a battery charger. Wear comfy shoes. Bring a backpack to carry all the crap you buy.
A – Access @NYCCLines. Check out line statuses.
N – Nosh. Bring some snacks.

I think some of us are going to the Brooklyn Defender Pint Night event at Barcade Chelsea on 9/28? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

RIP the D.A.R.Y.L system from last year's thread. In Negan we trust. BTW, bathe is spelled with an e. ;)

This will mark 7 straight years working and attending the show. The goosebumps that I feel in my bones whenever I see the Autographing area long before it's filled with lines and people on the day before the show opens never gets old. That area along with Artist Alley will be my continue to be my stomping grounds until the year I retire from working at NYCC for good.

Seeing familiar faces and catching up with fellow Crew and Staff is like a big family reunion; Sunday is always the most bittersweet day when droves of Crew and Staff gather in the crystal palace stairs for group photos to celebrate the end of the show. To anyone going for the first time, have fun! It's a madhouse of nerds, cosplayers, media, and everyone else in between so try not to get overwhelmed.

We have an NYCC Discord sub channel under the NYC GAF Discord this year to make communicating much easier than previous years. Quote to reveal the link:

Will a GAF meet up at the show finally happen this year? Maybe yes, maybe no, but we'll be crossing paths no doubt. One thing is for sure: reception at the Javits Center sucks and will continue to suck for years to come until facility upgrades are made.

If anyone finds themselves in the Autographing area, feel free to say hi to me if I'm not too busy. I'm slated to work in the morning but I might swap for afternoon shifts if possible.

There's a Mr. Robot event on Thursday at Terminal 5. RSVP here: launchparty.e-coin.com
Fixed. RSVP'ed on a whim as well. If the pull of the Javits Center can get me away, then I hope to be there. Will set a reminder on my phone. If I swap for a PM shift, then this won't be possible unless I arrive late.

We should just make that the GAF meetup spot.
Why not both/multiple meet ups rather than one definitive meet up ala the PAX meet ups? Win-win for people who don't have tickets and people who are going.

Derp. Thursday it is.

Well, as long as you can make it before 8:15pm you should be fine.

There will probably be more parties with free drinks/food popping up soon. We could meet at all of those.

The Charity Art Auction for St. Jude Children's Hospital is Saturday 10/7 from 6:30-9:30

It usually ends up going to 10:30-11 but if you win something and need to leave early you can pick up/pay for your items earlier.

Some of the items are up in the gallery and they end up with a bunch more collected throughout the show.

Unless there's something else going on, think I'm finally going to check it out. The Paolo Rivera and Sara Pichelli pieces are great.

Don't forget to show the Autographing area some love and stop by even if you're not planning to blow money on Hamill and Ridley autographs.
With all due respect to the Artist Alley area which I adore.
I'm a manager in the area. I'm anticipating crazy long lines for the aforementioned people all weekend long.

Let's propose a drinking game: Drink every time you see a Negan cosplayer, a Harley Quinn cosplayer, or any Overwatch character.

No one will make it out alive.

Any cool after parties going on this year?

Sonicboombox will probably have something, but they haven't given any details out yet. Seems like a lot of stuff hasn't been announced yet.

The amount of Harleys was insane last year. I would need to be put on a stretcher. But it would be cool to meet up with some of you guys.

Hahaha, I forgot to add Wonder Woman, Guardians of the Galaxy because those movies came out this year and the upcoming Thor: Ragnorok. Don't forget the Netflix Marvel shows either; Defender cosplayers are going to be out in droves! Oh and Star Wars too. People would be put in a coma for a year!

It's quite easy to put on a Harley Quinn cosplay thanks to the movie so that was a madhouse. I got so damn tired of it by the end of the weekend. The regulars here have stories about confectionery indulgences and meeting a famous person at random, seemingly opportune moments.
No hugs for you then!

You're leaving me at artist alley?
Hey, you guys aren't the only area that starts with an A! There's AA, then there's the A-Team. I'll still go back to go clear out Artist Alley at the end of the night and say hello to a bunch of artist friends as per my yearly tradition. Besides you got a nice, solid team of Vets as managers and Crew that I wish I had in my area or at least would come visit. That ain't going to happen with it being all the way at the end of 1-E.
I work at Hammerstein. I hope there will be interesting panels this year.
You've got Mark Hamill on Saturday night and a bunch of high profile panels so there will never be a dull moment for you guys:https://www.newyorkcomiccon.com/Content/The-Hammerstein-Ballroom/

Lonely Virgil is an exclusive. No wonder they're going Bankrupt.
I thought this was a joke until clicked on the website and yup, it's a thing:

It's too bad they didn't embrace the Lonely Virgil meme and called the toy that. It would have been hilarious if it came with his own table/chair and interchangeable frown expression even if it meant increasing the price by another $10 or so. You'd figure by WWE figures, they meant the current big name superstars, not this poor sad thing but maybe that's the joke that they're banking on: avid con goers who are aware of the meme will buy it.

I hate that all the panels I want to check out are not in the convention center anymore. The RWBY panel is at Madison Square Garden.

Why would they do this? >_<

Random stuff I stumbled on:

There's going to be a Jigsaw-themed escape room right outside the Javits: http://ew.com/movies/2017/09/27/saw-jigsaw-escape-room-new-york-comic-con/

Fox Home Entertainment is going to bring a lot of War for the Planet of the Apes stuff, including a mocap experience: http://www.popculthq.com/2017/09/27...net-apes-exclusive-motion-capture-experience/

After parties:
NYCC Carnie After Party

Toonami vs Adult Swim After Party

Also a reminder, tonight every Barcade is hosting its Brooklyn Defender Pint Night in every location (even PA and NJ).

A few questions:

1) It looks like the rooms for the off-site panels aren't going to be cleared between each panel - is this going to be a shit show? If so, should I plan to go there in the morning in order to get a seat for the panel I want to attend in the afternoon?

The Stan Against Evil panel is the primary reason I bought a Thursday badge. It's not a super popular show so I assumed it would be in one of the 'A' halls. I'm kind of baffled that it's in Hammerstein Ballroom.

2) Related question - I bought my Thursday badge late so I missed the mailing deadline. Will I have to pick it up at the Javits Center and then loop back to Hammerstein Ballroom? Luckily I have my physical badges for the other days already.

1) I don't know what to tell you about getting there in the AM. As I always tell attendees, that's at your discretion as what to decide to do. Do you absolutely need to see that panel that you're willing to wait all day for it? IMHO I think you should be able to make it to the AvsED panel easily if you arrive 1.5-3 hours beforehand but then again, Jason works at Hammerstein so he has a better handle as to how things work there.

2)Yes, you will l need to pick up your Thursday badge at the Will Call desk to get into Hammerstein because it is part of NYCC. No badge= no lining up for panels at Hammerstein.

Mattel's been doing some dumb fun exclusives the last couple of years with Shockmaster and Isaac Yankem DDS.
