Antiwhippy

the holder of the trombone
Subahibi 3

... holy crap, they just ratcheted the insanity by a hundredfold.
They really don't pull any puches when it came to the bullying scenes huh. Despite that, can't say I really seem to symphatise with Takuji as he essentially became a red piller. But his complete and total breakdown was seriously intense. And it somehow manages to end somewhat touchingly in a completely insane way?

Also the chapter where the sexual content gets ratcheted up, but it was mostly grotesque rather than anything meant to be arousing.

Also
the ending of it does not correspond with the ending of 2 at all.
interesting...

edit: oh wait, I didn't get to the ture end of this chapter? Huh,

It's weird. I don't know if I would recommend it, but it's definitely weird.

Now I'm just reading it to see if the insane things have any payoff instead of being insane for the sake of it.

Also wow at the third chapter's true route.

I got it during th kickstarter. Just didn't have any time to play it since been playing pubg, bf1, destiny 2 and a still got to finish some other previous started vns.

Finished Subahibi.

... Ignoring the true ending which feels like a whole bunch of bullshit until I can read something that convinces me otherwise...

I quite liked it.

To get the negatives out of the way first, like most eroges which I feel it's mostly about the story, the sex scenes really kind of just gets in the way through longwinding prose that doesn't even really feel that erotic.
Also a lot of the sexual abuse scenes,
while I feel is definitely meant to be portrayed as a bad thing in the story, goes on too long and in too much detail to the point of fetishizing it, which like, for some of those scenes, I don't need it man.
That said, despite its reputation, the graphical representation ended up not being as gross as I was led to believe, though that's totally on me. I've definitely seen more things that made me want to srape my brain with a piece of wire. Also don't really need all the
incest, so I'm just going to treat the Yuki route as the canon one.

That said, what those scenes lack in graphical grossness makes up for it in sheer psychological impact. Like holy shit, it tackles its subject matter in a way that feels like it isn't pulling any punches. Some of the scenarios just feel tough to read through. That said, the character I feel the worst for
takashima, like by the end it feels like her significance as a character is just as a catalyst for the final stages, despite having every excruciating detail of her torment being detailed out. She doesn't even really factor that much into the story by the end....?

There's a lot of talk about this VN being a philosopical think piece, which the true end could be but for right now I'm just treating it as a whole bunch of bullhshit, in the end I feel it's just a story about hurt people trying to find meaning and relief.
Whether they find it within themselves or through external means
, which is what I got from the way it incorporates its philosophical musings to the characters & story.

Also Yuki is the best girl.

hmm new date for Chaos;Child? Now various shops display the 13. October, would be a good slot for me, definitely the last big VN that i read this year.

Current placeholders are in mid-October, yeah. We should be getting a release date announcement in around a week, based on what they've been saying on Twitter.

Fruitbat Factory bundle

The tier with actual VNs is expensive ($25) but I don't own a single one so I went for it. Confused about how they're handling Seabed, apparently it'll only be available in limited quantities towards the end of the bundle's lifespan? And is it even coming out soon*?

*Checked vndb, it's not out until December, lol.

I did not notice that and just wasted $5. :\

Yeah, not sure if this was on the page before:
The last tier is currently not purchasable (it will be at a later time). If you buy this tier right now, you will not see it in your account. We highly suggest you hold out on the tier until it is actually available.

Either way it's a confusing bundle with two different limited tiers with different requirements, so if people pledged $30 and don't get Seabed they should issue (partial) refunds.

From the look of it, people who bought the $30 tier have gotten the game. You should check if you received it.

I'm over here waiting for them to put the keys up so I can up my order. Really poorly handled bundle.

ENIGMA: looks interesting. Has anybody who played it got any impression?

Will we ever get an update from Sekai Project regarding their console titles? PQube already released one of those in Europe, it can't be that hard if they got into the party after Sekai Project and still managed to release the game already.

It's been over 3 years since they acquired their first Vita project (WEE in mid 2014), will they make it to four before they release anything?

anyone have/find reviews that cover the MuvLuv Alternative port (rather than just the game or whatever)

You mean the engine features? It's a visual novel, there's not much to say there other than this version of MLA runs on a more modern and fully featured version of age's engine.

Decided to go back to Trigger Happy Havoc (Danganronpa) as I'm finding ZTD disappointing :(

THH (2nd chapter) is pretty good
intriguingly topical since it touches on gender/sexuality issues which seem to be often in the news over here - not quite finished it yet though. I thought it would have been better if Byakuya (sp?) actually was the killer. It also talks about personality/mental disorders

However I think an odd thing with the game is, for such a depressing premise they've gone down the 'quirky' route (eg pink blood), I like the Ace Attorney style gameplay though during class trails.

So, I've been reading Muv-Luv Alternative for the past week and now I'm on the
coup arc
and the constant justification for
near-suicidal ultra nationalism
is really starting to bug me. Can someone let me know if this becomes less prominent after this arc?

Examination of patriotism and how it can be used in both positive and negative ways, how it can bolster morale, how it can lead people to do the wrong things for the right reasons, and how it can be abused by people in power is all a pretty big part of what Muv Luv is about. Particularly in some of the spinoffs, Schwarzesmarken has the main characters rebelling against the Soviet controlled government out of love for their country, a faction that believes that siding with the Soviets is what's best for Germany, and a faction that seeks to simply abuse their power while using nationalism as a shield. The
coup arc
is where its most prominent in Muv Luv Alternative.

It's not. There is a particular part of the story that focuses more on a particular theme, that's all.

We were supposed to know before playing the game about a
coup attempt
?

If I'm making a big deal over nothing, then fine, but that definitely seems like more than a "theme."

Maybe I would have been able to stomach it better if
the rebels weren't literally rebelling because they were too loyal to their military dictator, and then making the whole thing sound like a criticism of Japan's current pacifistic philosophy. It doesn't help that the closest thing to a redeeming quality the author attributes to the other side is "we have bigger things to worry about." It's not like either side has to be right in a fictional conflict, and the protagonists don't have to be on the "right" side, but when the author frames it as "they did the wrong thing for the right reasons", I can't help but think that the author is a right wing nationalist, which are the same people that deny that Japan did anything wrong in WW2.

Oh well, the
ptsd
arc seems to be pretty well written, so I'm going to keep going with it.

Looks like Sekai is finally sending out the OSTs for WAS this week! Guess I can finally check that off as another completed Kickstarter...

On Chapter 3 of Trigger Happy Havoc/Danganronpa:

Now things are getting interesting... it seems each case is its own story, but now Ch.3 has a callback to the previous one, why is there a photo of Mondo, Leon and Chihiro? When was it taken? Who took it? Was it taken when Chihiro was still a 'girl'?
Why does everyone accept Toko's split personality so easily?
The Chihiro AI is so Zero 3, but in a good way. I bet it will be corrupted by Monokuma/Byakuya though somehow.
I think Byakuya THINKS he has a handle on things, but still seems suspicious to me... in Chapter 2 anyway. He was still guilty in some way, rearranging the crime scene, and Mondo's reason for snapping and killing somebody seems very weak. His story was pretty sad though
