Halo |OT 25| Did you think me defeated?!"

I complained about this elsewhere, but I really wish they'd release the Halo art books (making off, Warfleet, Mythos, etc.) as digital books at some point. I don't have room for more stuff, let alone Halo stuff, so basically I can't justify buying them if they're gonna' take up room. Especially for referencing in articles and the like, the digital copies of the books are much more useful as well.

Yep. Same for me. I've been getting the novels digitally for a while now. Any big books from now on would have to stand out in particular, and... I'm increasingly less impressed with the Halo ones. (For reference, books I did enjoy were Bioshock 2 & Infinite, Dead Space, Gears of War 3, The Witcher 2 & 3)

On a side note, I'm somewhat annoyed that Gears of War 4's digital art book doesn't support the kindle reader on iPad. Such a bizarre omission, but oh well. Money saved.

I ended up getting Mythos, and it's quite nice... but again, it's a big hardcover book.

I've gotten rid of a fair few of my Halo novels and converted them to digital. Down to just Glasslands, Thursday War, Evolutions, Primoridium and Silentium. I'll probably swap them eventually when iTunes or Amazon has a reasonable sale (and if anyone has room and wants the books and is wiling to pay for shipping, shoot me a PM.)

I condensed down all my disc-based games into a CD/DVD binder as well; I'm not getting rid of my Halo games so the original packaging doesn't much interest me.

Has there been any news at all on halo 6? Or are we probably waiting until next e3 for reveal?

Some people are expecting news to drop during next VGA, later this year, but I'm not holding my breath, I'm sure we will have to wait next E3 to get something big (and maybe some teases during next March/April).

Sadly. :'(

Keep in mind they promised beta before launches so they have to give enough time to have a beta and utilize the feedback for changes before launch.

They promised Beta's before every Halo game, but the bolded part was never promised, was it?

True, but then why even waste resources on the beta no? I don't think we'll see basically a year before like H5. Maybe E3 announce with beta in september with November launch? But depends on whether H6 a 2018 or 2019 title.

I'm curious myself, how and when the next Beta will launch. Everyone is assuming that H6 is Play Anywhere, so something like the HW2 Beta could happen, where they have 2, even if I still find it unlikely.

Oh yeah, I saw this a week ago on LinkedIn since we both talked about a position @343 Alexei and I.

I was really curious when I saw this but I didn't know if it would be a big deal in the end, but really cool to see 343 will push the boundaries of Halo with the Xbox One X.

(Btw Frank, how long should I wait for an answer regarding this UX position @343? lol)

what exactly is wrong with multiplayer in mcc now? works great for me since like a year ago maybe even longer

There's still occasional hiccups with parties (not being able to join someone else without quitting the build, getting broken up after matchmaking.) I don't think I've personally had any issues with that in months either, last time we played full customs everyone stayed together all night.

oh ok I always search alone, but the not staying in the same lobby after a game is normal though right? the feature halo 3 had to opt to search with the people you played with is gone correct?

MCC is okay when playing solo but still seems to fall apart with parties.

I tried to play with my friend and we'd always be split up after a game ends and we regularly so of my be able to join each other.

Was looking at the Player Unknown's Battlegrounds thread and Halo 3 having 1.1 million concurrent users at one point is crazy. That game was a monster. Yet 343i will continue to chase genre trends instead of chasing Halo and sales and playerbase will continue to be in the decline. I like Halo 5, I like the thruster pack and gunplay, but they need to find a balance between old and new Halo and get some olds fans back.

Honestly, I think a lot of fans have kinda moved on and aren't really looking back. Back in 2007, Halo was this big event title, but there are so many choices today, and different games are more accessible today than ever before. Going back to basics isn't going to put Halo back on top. I think 343 should focus on creating a rich feature set for the next game so the community can take off with it and make the game their own. The custom browser in 5 is a good start, but that needs to be there at launch. A good campaign and a good multiplayer are important cornerstones, but imo that's just not enough to keep a consistently high population anymore.

Halo 3 was obviously loaded with merit, and polished to a sheen. But 'chasing [classic] Halo' won't get them to the top, or even to any more success than they're currently having - people have moved on, and frankly pure Arena doesn't hold an audience like it used to.

It was never pure Arena that held the audience. It was the wealth of quality options that were built out from having a solid foundation.

The trend chasing disturbed that foundation, and everything else crumbled with it. 'Chasing classic halo' alone won't get them to the top, but it would create a simple, solid foundation that is more palletable to a wider audience.

Chasing trends will only result in Halo being behind other as you can't be first if you're copying, other will always be a step ahead since they are the first to make the move.

Sure, having just classic Halo and a pure arena experience won't put Halo on top of the trends, but, going back to classic Halo could help the game improve on other areas since it doesn't have to focus on player abilities, since the basic gameplay has already been tested and approved.

If Halo wants to be the top dog once again, it needs to build since on its own that other game cannot afford and give to the public.

For me, Halo's strengths have always been its base gameplay, its variety and its narrative focused rich universe. They should combine this into a new game mode, something Halo already tried to some attempts with Invasion and Core Reactor Firefight in Reach, Spartan Ops in Halo 4 and now Warzone with Halo 5.

As for myself, I would kill to get something like Invasion mixed with Warzone for like 12v12 players.

Having narrative driven gametypes & maps, where Spartans need to move from point A to point B with a cinematic introduction, unlocking the map the more they are moving forward and getting better weapons (Invasion from Reach).

One team would be the Spartans, gaining better weapons, the other team would be The Covenant, unlocking MOBA like AI units like Grunts, Hunters & cie they could deploy on the map to fight against the other team (Reach's Core Reactor Firefight).

Maps would explore different scenarios within the Halo universe and unfold around a story set for seasons/chapters and could change following the numbers of victory from each side (Human versus Covenant) (aka Halo 4 Spartan Ops).

I mean, if you look at what the community achieve with Halo Custom Edition, there are ton of ideas to grab and polish for a new and complete Halo experience.

We could more into this, but that's the basics I would like to see for a new experience within the Halo universe, without having to rely on trends and keeping the basic style of Halo gameplay.

And, on top of that, you keep the Arena (4v4) and other modes like BTB (8v8) allowing Halo to keep some variety as it should.

Tbh, just killing Sprint would be enough to differentiate it from most any other big-name modern shooter. Keep Thruster, Clamber, Hover, Slide, and Ground Pound, but work on map design to ensure that there's routes around the map that don't rely on those Spartan Abilities.

Making Warzone 2.0 more like Invasion than what it is now would be super dope.

I wasn't suggesting that Halo would find the same success Halo 3 had, but I think it'd bleed less players if they made an effort to capture the classic Halo feel. I'd agree that getting rid of sprint would go a long way, but that's not quite enough. I think the controls got too complicated for some players, so getting rid of slide and a couple of other abilities may help. I think Thruster is great fun and should be retained. Going back to a more Bungie-esque art style would help too, Halo Wars 2 is a better approach than 4 & 5. Looking at the over designed spartan armors, brutish Elites, tron like Forerunner architecture, etc... Old Halo was a lot more unique and every thing was distinguishable.

Of course then there's the campaign which needs a ton of work. Their mission design has yet to feel like Halo.

Even the Thruster feels too much for me, at least how it is implemented in Halo 5, too fast, too powerful and using first person make it a jack of all trades for any dangerous situation and encourage player to run away as soon as they feel in danger.

I wouldn't mind if we kept the Thruster how it was in Halo 4, it was a good feature but wasn't really OP.

And you can keep ground pound too.

And to further celebrate the anniversary, we're doing a casual live stream on Monday 9/25 starting at 1PM PT on Mixer.com/Halo and Twitch.tv/Halo. We'll hang out, talk with viewers, look back on good times, enjoy a Halo 3 campaign speed run and then transition over to a play date in the new Halo 3 Classic Throwback playlist in Halo 5. We've got a special team to represent 343 - Neighbor, Dersky, Strongside and Bravo will be channeling their nostalgic skills in this new playlist. Should be fun!

But I don't remember having further confirmation btw.

As an East Coast elitist, I demand that I and my time zone be catered to first.

You aren't an elitist, you are just right!

Early bird SHOULD get the worm. But we always get screwed...

Anyway, I'm really anxious to see how these maps turned out. I Leary of 1:1 remakes given the assists on all the guns, but it should be a lot of fun anyway.

"It's been a great partnership but the back-compat team isn't quite done yet - in honor of Halo 3's 10th birthday we've been working closely with them on some additional awesome things for Halo 3. We can't spill the beans just yet, but stay tuned for more info soon."

Anyone have any idea what this could be? Every Halo 3 is already out.

Like I can't think of a single thing the back compat team could be working on thats related to Halo 3.

They just talked about this on the stream, they didn't say what it would be, but they say something was coming regarding Halo 3 BC, I really don't know what it is...

Maybe Halo 3 60fps?

FOV increase maybe? That would be cool- it would remove that sluggish feeling.

They said "the backwards compatibility team is not done with halo 3"

It could just be optimization

Can't believe how poorly this game performed.

Fact under 8% have got this achievement is astounding to me - is it that shocking or am I being a bit sensitive?
