Everybody's Golf |OT| We'll miss you Hot Shots Golf

Are they going to fix the camera when choosing your teeing off spot? It doesn’t give you the same view as from behind the tee. Really frustrating.

To add to Heel's reply: also bear in mind that using backspin introduces some RNG into your shot (regardless of whether you hit with perfect impact) that will see it potentially straying several yards off course to the left or right, so don't just use backspin all willy-nilly on every approach. And, when you do use it, be cognizant of the effect and try to account for it. This only applies to backspin shots, however. Topspin and curve shots are unaffected.

I was totally unaware that was the case, at least I have an excuse for my poor approach shots now!

Alright I think i'm done with this one for now...I've pretty much done all you could do, upgraded a full custom set, played plenty of all the courses, unlocked a bunch of shit etc etc.

Had a great time with it but I wish there was just a bit more to it at launch.....specifically the online. I'll probably get some of the upcoming DLC courses but what I really really want is more online features to be added...if that happens I'll def. be back.

I've played quite a bit of it now.

Its still a good golf game-- but I have to say I am slightly disappointed by the overall pacakge.

Maybe my expectations were too high. But I was expecting more... I guess it is budget priced. But still. Considering how long we had to wait since 5 for a real console hsg game...

I do love the HSG frachise. And this is a step in a good direction. The game just has so much more potential. And the content and the current execution, especially the online open courses stuff really is just lacking.

I have to point out, the JP to EN localization especially for the spoken parts is weak! Also janky 60fps mode is sad. Amd this point I will spoiler
I was Soo looking forward to the fishing game and other non golf activities. But man, this aspect is maybe the most disappointing :(

Otherwise its still a fun golf game.

What time is it?
I really miss the style of Daily Challenge from World Invitational. Six nine-hole rounds and one eighteen-hole round with all your scores totaled up for a weekly rating was perfection. I always felt competitive but I guess I did buy the level 4 and level 5 DLC clubs/balls in that game. I haven't dabbled much with the custom clubs but it seems worse considering they degrade over time.

I need TWO MORE?!? Oh come on. At first I thought it was easier to do Alpine 12 in the rain so you control the green a bit better, but after accidentally getting my first with super top spin I see now that I was wasting my time trying any other methods.

Also don't get me started on the non-randomness of custom club upgrades, and I swear I'm not just salty because I recycled a set with 20 levels on it looking to make one a second one with 25 and didn't know that that wasn't automatically possible even with infinite reloads and luck! A 2nd recycle after 10 upgrades and buying the third set hasn't netting me anything better than 15 total and I'm peeved, to say the least. I miss my 7 power 13 control and am sickened by the sight of this 14 control (total) abomination I'm stuck with now.

regarding online, what exactly is blocked behind PS+? some things seem available, I am a bit confused.

Alpine In is regular tee and normal cup. Get your condors while they're hot.

also, when farming shots, do I need to do them on regular tees and normal cups to make them count towards unlocking characters??

Do my birdies/eagles/albs/condors/ count if I do them on"unofficial" courses

what's the freaking point of anything unofficial in this game, anyway? nothing counts there.

An online course will say when it's "official" or not. Short answer; Normal cups = official regardless of tee or weather. Only scores while official count toward any special shots. Nailing 3 condors would already be plenty challenging on tornado cups mind you, but Because Reasons they've left the difficulty ridiculously high here. 1 took me 3-4 hours across a few days. I gave up just now after about another 2 trying to get more. The window to even get the green is extremely, extremely tiny, perhaps 1-2 minor adjustments zoomed in and within the same 1% of power, and every tenth of wind changing throws it off a little bit. Even if the shot hits the green there seems to be plenty of luck.

The only remotely redeeming part of this torture is that you'll get albatrosses in a hurry!

I posted these tips on a certain trophy forum so I’ll post them here too:

Personally, I would wait until the conditions are right until going for the Condors.

Normal tee and weak wind then you’re good to go.Tee off from the front left corner, Triple Impact Ball, Super Topspin aimed between the centre point of the hut’s roof and the two parasoles on the right as a reference point, and make adjustments after allowing for the wind.

I got my Condors by hitting 95% power of a 372y club, so about 353 yards. Any more than that and it would hit the hut and any less wouldn’t have enough reach to hit the water for the bounce.

Ideally you want to wait till there’s a tailwind of <1.5mph. I think this aspect is crucial to greatly increase your chances of the elusive shot.

Also, if you don’t get a Super Topspin at impact, i.e the dot on the ball isn’t blue, then quit and restart. It’ll save time in the long run and lower the chance of smashing your controller to bits in a fit of rage.

I saved this screenshot of the place that I was aiming for all three of my Condors. (Ignore the wind speed)

What's really infuriating is that you can't recycle clubs untill they're fully upgraded. Just let us take the loss after a couple shitty lvl 1 upgrades but oh nooo, they couldn't resist forcing you to waste 110 gems.

You should be able to get all the trophies without PS+. You can also enter online courses and enter scores for the bonus course etc. Whether you can play online in Turf Wars and create or join a room seems a bit up in the air with some saying no you can't and others saying they can. I would have thought those features would have been what you couldn't do.

I've spent over 10 hours grinding on that damn hole and only have 1 to show for it. I've hit the pin 6 times with normal spin, left it inside a foot 20+ times, burned the edge with super spin 100's of times, tried a thousand different methods... beyond frustrated with it.

Took me about 3 hours.

How are your shots stopping inside a foot? All my shots were going several feet past and the 3 I got were two rising shot, and 1 backdoor.

Yeah I have no interest in finding gems to build custom clubs, nor grinding on a laggy ass online experience with 100+ other people at the same time just to get some special vs. match. In the end you don't even get jack shit for beating these special characters. Not worth the time.

Snagged Golf Story today for Switch so hopefully that will fill my golf itch until graded tourneys come out.

Got my last revenge character today, so now I'll probably wait for them to revamp the gem system and implement graded tournaments. Maybe I'll give the game another try then, but I kinda doubt it.

I should have my last one later on tonight. You know, assuming it spawns.

I actually got the feeling they fixed that with the last patch.
Had a revenge character show up every day afterwards. Had quite a few days without one before.
But maybe I was just lucky.

I'm only missing the condor specific characters now, but since my first set of custom clubs came up short to reliably go for the condor, I kinda lost my drive to go for another better set. Running around open courses looking for gems is just tedious and boring. Really don't understand how they didn't implement gems into rewards for daily challenges and stuff.

What did you end up at?

I used my 344 yards(354 with power) club and got them fine on the regular tee. How bad was your luck? That's only 16 to power.

Ended up at 13 power, so 332 yards (?). I came close a few times, but only ever with good wind from the normal tee, so I decided to recycle my clubs in hopes of better luck. First three upgrades came back with only adding one power level and I just didn't care anymore.

Because it's obvious at this point that they wanted to make this a pay-to-win game. That's probably why they made it a budget title too, making people justify spending money after they already bought it. I understand the whole point of games is to make money, but damn they sold out.

There's actually a trick to uploading your save to PSN prior to the refresh, and downloading that save after the refresh as many times as you like until you get a character to spawn.

Upload a new save once you win, or close the app and download again if you're losing. Rinse and repeat.

Is there a limit to the number of times you can recycle clubs? Is it technically possible to to keep recycling if you have like 5,000 gems and eventually get a driver with 450yd power or something? Because there's other holes on the DLC and preorder courses that are condorable (ha) with maybe a bit more juice.

And can you immediately apply all 10 or 11 upgrades at once with all 110 gems or do you have to play a certain number or rounds at each upgrade level before you can upgrade them again?

I've never lost those. I tried closing the app and reloading. redownloading my cloud save etc when one didn't spawn but it did no good. I always had to wait another 24 hours for the spawn to happen.

I think you can recycle indefinitely, and power maxes out at 25 so that will be 390 yards max.

I've done it and had no one spawn a few times, then gotten one to spawn. Just seems to be luck of the draw.

I've only had trouble one day where everyone wanted to hit hole-in-ones and eagles. I think the difficulty may be random?

I had that one too. It was the tornado cups. They got hole in ones both par 3's and I only managed to win because I got a hole in one on a par 4, and eagled everything else minus the par 3's

I just got the custom clubs

can someone explain/sumamarize the deal with the gems?

.- where do I find them?
.- why is it a pita to farm them?

also,

has anyone tried saving a game to a USB and then uploading again? is it safe or will it screw up the info?

1. Gems are found around holes and also earned from beating challenges. I'm too tired to find the link but somewhere in the last few pages I posted the link to someone else's post about how to calculate the gem hole each day.

2. USB is probably safe (unless the save is Encrypted and can't be transferred), but PS+ is probably recommended for convenience/speed.

yeah I found that gem farming procedure in the playstationtrophies forum.

it seems pretty straightforward and easy to follow to me... why are people complaining about it?

is 20 gems per day too few gems to max the custom club? what's the part that takes too long to do??

It takes 110 to max, so that's 6 days if you just farm the gems, but it's shorter in practice because you'll also get gems from challenges, like I said.

I think people dislike the idea on a philosophical level as it feels like a free-to-play/pay-to-win type of setup that wasn't there in World Invitational/previous games. Not sure what your last question is asking about.

No one has said it's not straightforward or hard to do. That's not the problem.

Some of us just want to play golf in a golf game. We don't want to spend hours upon hours walking around collecting stuff due to some stupid artificial "feature" that is an awful design decision, that is nothing more than a time waster. Then once you do collect them, you get the clubs and they can only be used a limited number of times before you have to do it all over again.

Or you could just pay Clap Hanz real money to do this, ie, the whole "pay-to-win" thing that people are talking about.

There is literally nothing gained by CH making you spend hours upon hours walking around a course picking up some gems. IMO, It's nothing but an artificial time waster, and they intentionally did this so that people would get bored of it and pay them real money. That is the reason they made this game a budget title, so when you go to spend an extra $10-$20 in the store, you don't feel quite as bad because you only paid $40 for it upfront.

I'm glad I only paid $12 for it though and at this rate I won't be spending another dime on this game. OOB I bought all of the DLC courses and Kratos, but until they make some drastic changes to this game, that ain't happening

Gems are found on courses, from fish sometimes, as a prize for winning rank 7 tournaments, and can be a random prize from the lucky chance or bonus course ranked score.

Each 9 hole course has one hole with stuff on it. Currently(until 8pm EDT) the hole locations are:

4 14
6 16
8 18
1 11
3 13
5 15
7 17

The pattern is consistent (+10 from front 9 to back 9, Add 2 for the next course) and when the day changes, just add 1 to everything.

There are 2 gem pick ups each hole with stuff, and you will get 1 or 2 gems per pickup which is random as far as I can tell. You can get 20-30/day depending on if you have the DLC courses or not plus whatever you get from the other sources.

Also Platinum Achieved.

I'm going to grind a little bit until I get 300 gems then take a break and play other stuff until tournaments come out.

has it been absolutely, 100% confirmed that condor is only possible on hole 12 alpine course??

I think the game is just too new and people haven't found out ways to get condors in other holes.

I don't believe they made condors exclusive for that hole.

There are other holes that are possible I'm sure. One of Eagle city's par 5's is only a hair longer but it doesn't have the height difference between the tee and green so you probably need a club closer to being maxed out distance wise to have a shot.

The third course also has that street of houses on the one par 5 and it might be possible to hit it down the street onto the green and in the hole. I tried a few times but the ball always came to a stop on the road and never made it to the green.

I had not spent a lot of time on it before yesterday maybe an hour total. But I saw it was on regular tees and light wind last night so I figured I should st least check it out. I used the back left corner of the tee box so I could repeat my positioning every time. I hit my first after about 10 minutes. Took longer maybe 25 for the second and the third maybe 10 more minutes so about an hour total yesterday. I'm glad to be done with it though. I only have to finish grinding about 30 more tourneys to get the last character and get the platinum. Hopefully they will get the graded tourneys going soon so I have something to do after that. Also I noticed today that they are shutting down the servers for World Invitational on Dec 21. In the past we had tours before they shut down the Out of Bounds servers for what it's worth.

ok I am slowly gettinge gems.

how exactly should I spend them??

I want the custom club for the condors exclusively, I don't want to use it for anything else.

what level power should I be? should I level up control, backspin and backdoor? or are they useless for this purpose?

If you're going to do alpine 12 for the Condor, you're going to need 355 yards of distance for the front tees. So you're going to need at least 16 points into power. Control and backdoor can help, but the most important thing you need is the distance to get there.

I got them with a club that had 16 power and 9 control.

one non-condor question...(very likely a silly one, but I gotta learn)

what does "shots on the green are unaffected by wind" mean??

the green is the area with the hole, right? does it mean putting isn't affected by wind?

oh ok, thanks a lot. I'll take notice of this.
