Staying at a hotel tonight and it struck me: why would anyone want to use the maid services at hotels regardless of how nice the hotel is? They are invasive and unwanted. When I stay at a hotel I want complete privacy from the world. It's the reason I'm staying in a hotel and not a B&B.
Anyone else feel this way? Not once in my life have I okay'd a stranger coming into a room that I'm staying in while I'm not there and cleaning the areas around my stuff. I find it to be a ridiculous and outdated concept. Granted I have never stayed in a hotel room for more than a week so I can't speak to any longer term needs for room cleaning, but I can't even imagine needing maid service if I stayed in a hotel room for a month. Why do I need sheets changed or tucked? Why do I need trash picked up off the floor or a bathroom cleaned? If you're a clean person you can do this yourself, and if you're a messy person you can accrue the mess until you're done with the room and then either do a little cleaning or leave it to the maids when you're done with the room and all of your stuff is out of there. These are simple things I can do myself without involving some strange person looking at my personal belongings while I'm not there, regardless of if they're a trustworthy employee/person or not. The only thing you could possibly argue needing a maid for is bringing fresh towels but that's only if you're staying for more than a few days and even then you can just go ask for more towels to be brought to your door.
I dunno, I've never not put the little do-not-disturb flyer outside my door in a hotel. Do you use the hotel maid service? If so can you explain your logic behind it? Genuinely curious.
