It was a great idea to get different character designers to work on blades. I can't wait until this game releases, thankfully Mario Odyssey is there to help me wait.

Quick and rough translations.
Introducing the rare Blade "Hotaru"-mo! Hotaru is a cute Blade who fights with a ball as weapon, as if he/she is dancing with it. The design is done by Taiki and Hotaru's voice is provided by Kaori Ishihara-mo!

Here's a small scene of Hotaru's Blade Tuning. Hmm? This kid may have a "two faced" feel to him/her*!?

Video
*giggles* Great, seems like I have a simple-minded Driver. Oh uhm, it's nothing! I'll lend you my healing power!

*Well uhm, since Hotaru's gender is ambiguous...

In the video he uses the pronoun "boku", so it's better to assume he's a boy.
I have heard girls using boku, so it's...kind of hard to know. Fixed my translations a bit to reflect that though.

Well, that chest definitely seems a bit too flat even if they wanted to appeal to the pettanko crowd.

Boku 僕 is definitely used by male. I believe it is very rare that a girl refers herself with this word.

Except in the world of anime, where it's used quite a lot. I'd say this Blade's gender is ambiguous at best for now...

That said, I hope Hotaru's two-faced nature implies that we'll have Blade bonding side quests not just with story Blades, but the rare Blades as well!

Yeah, I need to agree with this though...

I'm just wondering how many rare Blades are in the game, overall.

Think we'd get another Nintendo Direct still, focused around Xenoblade 2, despite the good chunk they've included in the last direct?

I'd doubt it at this point. I think they should've made that trailer a separate direct. I'd expect some videos about gameplay mechanics at most.

I'm not expecting too many even though Monolith Soft definitely has quite a few artists to go through. I'm expecting quite a few to never be shown at all, however.

As for the new Blade, it looks pretty good. The art seems to have transferred over better than the previous shown one.

That trailer wouldn't have been enough for its own direct, I don't think. And I certainly don't think getting focus in one direct means a game can't get its own when it's happened before. ARMS had a whole segment in one April direct that was almost as long as XBC2's before getting its own direct in May.

They showed off the newest build at Milan Games Week, this one definitely looks the most complete.

- You can toggle a simpler UI in the middle of battle that removes descriptions, helpful for removing clutter.
- The UI issue where the level of special art is not shown for the first stage has been resolved.
- The Unique Monster Theme has changed again?
- The Fonsa Myma Night theme can be heard
- There's a mechanic where you can combine the Break, Topple, Launch with the Special Arts
- Extending Chain Attacks seems to be based on Bursting the Elemental Orbs rather than random affinity between characters.
- There's an announcer like Baten Kaitos who exclaims when something rad is happening
- There is probably way more choice making at any given moment than either Xenoblade X or the original.

It's looking rather good.

I'm gonna go hard on this game. I'm talking full time job hours.

Everything about the game is looking good, except how much HP those enemies have. Seriously those are some huge attack sponges.

There's also different kinds of commentary, for example, when Rex gets demolished by an aggressive driver, he comments "Don't worry, we'll get em' next time".

You can also boost aspects of the Blade when you summon them.

The Menu was also changed a bit.

HP might have been modified for showing off the battle system, as was previously claimed they did for Gamescom.

I doubt that. But it probably seems slow because we don't have the game in our hands and the guy is trying to explain all these systems and features.

at 1:1:32 pyra moonwalks out of existence and then slides in from the other side of the frame? the blade characters walking around on the field and connecting to the player characters via a beam all feels so redundant ...

beautiful landscapes and colors.

Wonder if that means he can only have that one "blade"?

In the demo footage, Tora is not included when getting blades like Rex it seems. Also, it seems that he will be getting variants on his default blade, since his blade's name ends with the alpha symbol.

Good point. So replacing Rex and having more blade options would also be a big party consideration.

Wow, this is cool. I wonder how the mech girl transforms. Could it be crafting? Or same as others, through affinity level? This is getting interesting.

Wow, Tora sounds really interesting and I really like his design. I hope he's more like Riki and less like Tatsu (ugh)

Tora is up.

Translation from reddit, which in turn found it on 4chan:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Xenoblade_Chronicles/comments/73ref1/tora_time/dnsirqo/

"Today we'll be introducing Rex's friend from the Nopon tribe: Tora (voiced by: Nonoka Ai)
"A boy with a love of all things mechanical who admires Drivers"
"Excitely likes calling Rex his "Big Bro"(Aniki) as a result!"
"Unfortunately, while Tora doesn't have the qualities of a Driver, he still has many tricks up his sleeve! But that's for another time!"

Aw, Tora considers Rex his big brother.

Well so far (1) Tora can fight and (2):

That's great. Truly, Tora is already best party member!

Love Tora. He just seems like such a happy, go-lucky-go. It's nice to finally also have a Nopon party member who isn't a "grizzly old man" archetype. I realize that Tatsu was younger than Riki, but he still had a bit of that air with him.

The disheartening part to this footage is seeing that the crew is level 22 and still doesn't seem to feature different armour pieces... I'm really hopeful that we'll still have some way of customizing the appearance of our party members, but hte more we see, the less I'm convinced this is going to be the case. :(

Tora reminds me of the same kind of grit and energetic optimism that powered the original Xenoblade's quest. Really great idea to have an "artificial duo" that isn't any less valid than any other.

I know there must some underlying theme for the more "generic" Blade names in the Japanese version (Flame, Firefly, Flower, etc), but I'm really appreciating the localized names so far...
