Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Footage at Milan Games Week

At Milan Games Week, Nintendo streamed a bit of the newest build for Xenoblade Chronicles 2. It's set in the same location as the Gamescom demonstration which used an older build.

The footage is available here (4:30:31-5:12:54): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6RhWnTEJnw&t=4h30m31s

Summary from Neoleo2143:
- You can toggle a simpler UI in the middle of battle that removes descriptions, helpful for removing clutter.
- The UI issue where the level of special art is not shown for the first stage has been resolved.
- The Unique Monster Theme has changed again?
- The Fonsa Myma Night theme can be heard
- There's a mechanic where you can combine the Break, Topple, Launch with the Special Arts
- Extending Chain Attacks seems to be based on Bursting the Elemental Orbs rather than random affinity between characters.
- There's an announcer like Baten Kaitos who exclaims when something rad is happening
- There is probably way more choice making at any given moment than either Xenoblade X or the original.

Summary of information spoken by the presenter (source is 4chan, confirmed to be accurate by Andrea23):
• When the game begins, Rex is working as a Titan merchant, selling resources from the more plentiful Titans to ones that have none for money. While on a job with a team of mercenaries, he meets Pyra, who wants to go back home to Elysium, the tree where all creatures come from.
• Blades do not level up, but as you use them more and more, their affinity with a Driver upgrades and they become more powerful and effective, especially in combos.
• Those that are trying to stop Rex and Pyra are just after them because they're Wanted, not actually knowing why they're trying to stop them. This Wanted status was put on Rex and Pyra by some higher, unknown force.
• Nomura designed everything for Torna's Titan, from characters to ships to housing and more.
• Nintendo contracted a whole bunch of manga, anime, and game artists to design dozens of characters, Titans, etc., including people who have worked on Fire Emblem and Macross, among other things.
• There is a theatre where you can watch performances that tell the world's story. These are actually important to the story, one particularly so.

Screencaps from Triforce141 confirming Auto-run and showing the UI differences:

XCX had a ton of UI customization so it was to be expected.
Good to have a confirmation in any case.

You can also adjust the camera to be closer or farther like in X which is pretty nice. Kind of wish it were more common

Never played a Xeno game before (I know, I know) but I'm intrigued by this one...leaning towards grabbing it even though I feel severely intimidated about jumping in now lol.

Monolith Soft is pretty good tech wise.
It’s pretty nice that they’ve addressed a lot of complaints like the pop in and performance seemingly being improved, the UI Can be simplified and they upgraded the game’s character models.

Hoping the game will be as good as the first with the tech and QoL improvements from X

I am really trying to get excited for this game. It looks great visually (exploration is my thing) and seems to have good music and I love the concept, but I just can't get excited for RPGs like this one :(

The combat is just too "boring" for me. You just stand there and keep hitting the hit button and once in a while perform combos with your partners. (I know I am oversimplifying it, but that is what it looks like to me when I watch all these videos.

Cannot wait for this game. It's going to be glorious. So pumped to hear all of the new music and to explore the world(s).

Is it normal that every single monster takes minutes over minutes to kill?

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
In Monolith we trust - game looks amazing. The difference a couple of months optimizing can make.

Is it normal that every single monster takes minutes over minutes to kill?

Would be difficult to show off the battle system if he would just one hit every enemy with a OP squad.

Seconded, YES. I thought that's what I heard in the gameplay from the website. Sounds like they toned it down unfortunately for the localization though. He sounds way less excited now :( Unless it's just the lower audio.

Everything about this game just looks more and more beautiful each time it's shown off. I can't believe it's only 2 months away.

You don’t press the hit button. There is no hit button.

You have to use positioning and special skills which are on cool down to deal with enemies efficiently.

Odd design decision to not have outfits change appearance like the other 2 games...

I really don't know if I have it in me to look at the dumb clothes of MC for hundred hours. Legitimately overthinking purchase decision right now :/

I wish there was subtitles, as I don't speak German. This games aesthetic grows on me every time I see a new video. Looking forward to December.

I'm pretty sure that If that's all it takes then you weren't really interested in the game to begin with.

From the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 previews thread:
Man, those enemies have a ton of HP.

About this

During an Italian official presentation, the Nintendo representative told that this was done for demo purposes in order to allow a full demonstration of the first 4 layers of the combat system within few encounters/short limit of time

I'm so elated they were able to make the 2017 release date.

Can't believe we are getting this game and Mario barely a month apart.

Switch has had such a strong first year, it's amazing.

It's a Xenoblade game, of course I was interested in it. Doesn't change that the default designs are ugly AF and I was expecting we'd be able to change the clothes, like in both Xenoblade games before it.

It's an Italian event, so I'm not sure how speaking German would help.

That said, apparently someone on 4chan translated a lot of the more interesting stuff the presenter said. Here's a summary:

Past games didn't have outfit changes for every piece of apparel either. Outfits only changed for different "levels" of equipment. As you leveled up and went to other parts of the world your outfit would change.

Holy fuck this is amazing. They contracted a bunch of artists from different media is amazing.

Also the theatre info is fantastic as well. This game might as well be in my GOTY list.

Can anyone here confirm if these translations are accurate? I'd rather wait to put it in the OP until we know for sure.

Honestly I'm starting to get worried about the no visible gear change and the amount of HP the enemies have, I mean at this point why not show it?.

Lol at this post.

Edit: double post

Sorry for having enough of kids characters in JRPGs not acting like there age, being the most powerful humans and saving the world. Can't wait to see Rex beasting a squad of trained soldiers.

While Takahasi games always had a kid party member and a mascot you could ignore them as rest the party was older, in this game they went the other way. For me it's a step back and immersion breaking if there trying to tell a serious story.

It's got huge competition from Persona, Horizon, Divinity: Original Sin 2 and Nier and it's likely less popular than any of those games.

And Zelda.
