Super Mario Odyssey demo available at Best Buy kiosks

I just returned from a local Best Buy, and it looks like they have updated demo kiosks with Super Mario Odyssey included.

You get to play in Tostareena (the desert/ice level), and appear to have pretty much free reign of the level. I'm pretty sure it is on a timer, maybe 5 minutes? If not there is a proximity end screen when you approach the final boss that I happened to trigger at an awkward time.

Other than looking great, I don't personally have much for impressions to add that isn't already around in other threads. I played with split joycons, but the set up makes it hard at Best Buy as they are tethered and it makes them twist awkwardly in your hands. I advise using the other controller scheme's if available.

If you know if other stores updated as well, feel free to let us know and I'll try to add to the OP. Freeze in the desert if old.

For some reason they had recently taken out all demo kiosks from each system out of my Best Buy. Not sure why they did that.

I didn't realize demo station in general might be new for some places. I forget what else they had demos for... I only remember Puyo Puyo Tetris and Pokken, and maybe bomberman? lots of games had videos and such though.

Odysssey is rather good! At least the demo I played. Feels like another Mario 64 with the huge open world levels.

Game is gonna be a blast.

Playing Odyssey demo right now at Best Buy in Mall of America. Game is amazing, capturing Bullet Bills and going into 2D pixel mode, man everything just feels sooooo good. Control is so smooth. And Tostarena Desert is a great level.

Just played the demo at target! Controlling Mario is great. Wide variety of movement options. I don't really have a problem with his speed overall, but his long jump was extremely slow.

Using split joycons was really uncomfortable, but it was probably because how Target had them tethered to kiosk. The advantages were numerous though. You can throw cappy by just motioning the controller instead of pressing a button as you would with the grip/pro controller. I tried recreating a lot of the different throws in the grip controller and some of them just couldn't be done.

The exploration in this game is crazy. There's soo much you can do in the sand kingdom its not even funny. It's like a giant, outdoor peach's castle. Secrets everywhere. Not going to spoil much but they really took advantage of the switch. There was a HD rumble puzzle I did that was really interesting.

I was really persistent with testing the controls and moving as fast as possible - ended up triggering a couple of super weird graphical glitches as a result. Nothing serious but definitely noticeable.

One thing I really wanted to do was find the painting of New Donk city from the last direct. I looked everywhere but couldn't find it. There's a good chance they took it out of the demo but who knows. If you get to play the demo keep your eyes peeled for it!

I'll answer any questions. Played the demo for like 40 minutes so I got to experience a lot.

40 minutes?? Did no one else wanted to play or did you just stare down at the person next to the line as you performed Mario's Jumps?

Joking aside, have you tried power sliding at the peak of a cartwheel jump? If so, do you know if you can perform the power slide immediately after the cartwheel jump so it looks like Mario is flying up before falling down in a projectile parabola?

I think the last in-store demo I played was for RE4 on the GameCube, but I'd definitely give this a whirl if I saw it. :p
