Gran Turismo Sport Previews

The one thing that I don't like about Gran Turismo Sport is that it almost looks too good.
The replays certainly do anyway. Looking forward to that demo to finally see, hear and feel the truth on my own set.

Anybody know how old the demo build is? Should we take it as representative or expect changes at release?

This is such bullshit. I don't know about the TV spot, but saying that all gt trailers are photomode sequence of frames is utter bullshit. Frankly you come across has having an agenda and I don't understand why you even post in this thread.

What agenda ?? Lol
All GT trailers are basically replays rendered in photomode quality, been that way for a while now.

GT has had a bullshot replay setting since GT3, the high quality replay output mode was even in GT5's secret option menu, but it requires a dev kit to run properly and dump the video capture. If you enable it on a normal PS3 the game runs like shit.

99.99% of Polyphony trailers are bullshotted.

It's not true to say all of them, there are ones which have real footage like May 2016.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UW_VWFVTMFQ
you're talking about the ones in the style of the opening movies with custom camera movements, like e3 2017.

Ah, sure yeah that had straight gameplay footage in it. There might have been others, but that's how cinematic trailers since GT5 (possibly the gen before that too) always were, thought this was generally accepted ?*

To clarify I was talking about the Bugatti and Porsche in the tunnel bit and the cockpit nordschleife, not the Porsche gif I quoted, that's straight from a replay.

*EDIT: yeah, what WFV above said. Has to be said, the difference is a lot less pronounced on PS4 and I'd assume PS4 Pro especially.

Gotta say the Dynamics of the cars on the replays absolutely shit all over other certain driving games released in the last few weeks.

You can almost see the spring n damper setting on the cars.
So good.

Disagree not ALL footage has been pre-rendered. This time round Polyphony have been releasing realtime footage since the image quality has improved dramatically over GT6.

It's pretty much standard procedure for racers. Not just Polyphony.

It's like all those Forza Motorsport trailers and promos with "ALL IN-GAME FOOTAGE" stamped across them.

My Forza Motorsport games have never looked remotely like that in-game, 30fps replays or not.

Indeed, those are straight out lying.

Eh, yes they did release real gameplay footage, but come on we know what trailers I'm talking about.

Do we know if GT Sport is going to have a loot box system or anything along those lines that creates a grind to encourage buying in game currency?

I ask because of what has been going on in Forza 7. I realize this game isn't out yet but I wasn't able to see if anything had already been announced after a google search.

everytime i look at ingame footage for 3rd person gameplay, i'm disappointed. i don't want to look at replays, i have youtube for that. maybe it's the camera angle or the way the car slowly wiggles/leans in 3rd person view coupled with the lack of car damage. makes it look like you're driving an untouchable tank with a car shell cut and pasted on.

the same look since GT3.

the in car view is amazing. i got my g27 in storage waiting with GIMX ordered.

It's the way the camera is attached to the car combined with the physics. There are options to adjust the camera but none that make it actually decent from what I've seen. GT3 had a relatively loose camera but it's been shit ever since then. Always looks like the car is simply sitting still and you're driving the track around it.

As of now the only thing we know you can buy with actual money is additional scapes through DLC. There's no indication that you can purchase in-game money with real money like in GT6. They've actually specifically noted that there it won't have microtransactions.

you can adjust the 3rd camera settings

The new Demo is basically the final game... even the progress in carried over.

It is a trial.
Perfection. Thanks.

Yeah, there's something so damn sexy about seeing that suspension and weight transfer at work in driving games. Shooters have their reload animations and gibs, and racers have this.

I wouldn't count out some of the competition on this front though.

yeah, you described it accurately. that's my biggest gripe. i get so upset when the replays look nice but the ingame 3rd person is so uninspiring. i guess i'll stick to other views and live with it.

The third person camera is adjustable in Sport so have a go with that and see if you can find an option you like.

IIRC there were two slide bars you could adjust, one was position of rotation and one was how loose/tight the camera was? I may be wrong.

Correct. I believe they added it at the same time they added the ability to adjust your height and how distance from the window in the cockpit view.

Now wait, I went to one of the theater preview events a few years back, and one of the things they gave out was vouchers for in-game currency for GTS. We haven't heard much on that since, but that was 100% the case within the last few years before the last bigger delay, and the description made it sound like something you'd normally buy with real money.

Well, it's an AWD, between the various systems, such as AYC the torque vectoring can cause it to get in line without any steering input.

Decided to preorder it before the demo because I know I will like it and I want it day 1.

Cant wait to race in Interlagos

That's a great gif.
That gif is mine so thank you!

There is something wrong with that gif. The front wheels are looking forward but the car behaves like if some brief countersteering had been applied right past the apex of the corner.

The countersteering has been applied before the start of the gif and that is why the front wheels are already looking forward.

If you look closely the car is already sliding at the start of the gif.

I was just lucky to hit the apex this way and the car and the driver had a nice reaction.

The gif is artistically beautyful. But the behaviour of the car doesn’t look believable to me. It behaves like if some brief countersteering is happening right when the front left wheel gets back on the tarmac. Looks like some kind of assist is activated.

All wheel drive drifts look like that, the only reason the rear came out was from weight transfer at corner entry until the car settles and the weight balances out. It was even more pronounced since one wheel was off tarmac and the car stops sliding dramatically once it returns to the track. It even hits the rumble strip with the inside sidewall which would pull the car in. Also, if the driver continued to apply throttle, that EVO has a really smart AWD system that distributes power to create "some kind of assist" technically.

I've been watching a couple of videos of that car. The way the front changes from drift to grip behaviour in that gif feels fake to me. The wheels should be countersteering for the car to end the drift in such an abrupt manner, but they are not.

Im just an average steel fabricator and erector but that GIF Looks tru to life to my eyes. Anyone else?

The final version of Willow Springs with an overcast looks fucking insane

https://youtu.be/-hOhexi2FNg?t=323
My biggest takeaway is how expansive that track and all other tracks are. Draw Distance and detail beyond the forground is insane, well layered and you get the impression that the enviro's are much bigger than the track in which you're driving. I think DC did good in pushing that envelope and I'm happy to see it here in GTS as well...

I still need someone to explain to me how Scapes work. I have a small idea but the fact the cars move in the real environments is beyond my comprehension.

You're absolutely correct in that it doesn't 'look right'. I've driven the beta and it's a fundamental flaw in the physics engine whereby lateral rear grip increases massively due to rear weight transfer upon acceleration.

You can pitch a car into a corner with lift-off oversteer, but the second you open the throttle the rear hooks up like its on rails and the front washes out wide. It honestly feels awful.

And it's not just the evo. Every single car I drove in the beta exhibited the same behaviour. I hoping like hell it gets fixed, but somehow I doubt it.

Aside from the vastly increased screen rez, texture details, AA solution and environment object density you mean? Sure, i can see it...Anyhoo let's get back to talking about 2D tree's or wind...

Oh, you edited your comment with a video, so will I.
Before I said that from my video it was impossible to infer any upgrade at all but as you are now posting a 480p video, yes, I can see improvements in the mud that Youtube delivers :)
